I wonder if it did. I have read a few very well put together documents that cast doubt on getting there at that time. If they did then its a technological marvel and thanks should be given to the German scientists and the V weapons that were light years ahead of anything the west dreamt of.

I always associated Goddard with the early bazooka. Yes he was doing what you said however, he died in 45 and the US scurried Braun and his colleagues away to safety and, the rest is history in terms of what we are talking about.

I believe you are both right; although Von Braun made important, key contributions, Gooddard is considered the Father of modern rocket propulsion.

AH yes, american ingenuity, teamwork, organizational talents and technical and engineering proficiency were of purely secondary value, quite certainly, and no doubt the Yanks just stood about and picked their noses as the Krauts did all the heavy lifting.

And thank goodness indeed for the Germans, never mind the incredibly courageous efforts of the fellas who actaully had the nads to get on top of the g++d*** rocket and land on the big rock. But by all means, lets say thanks to the lab coated....Germans!

Or, of course, peraps it was one of the greatest frauds ever perpetrated on the entire world. Seems likely doesnt it, as there would have been 100s if not 1000s of particiapants involved in pulling off such a scam, and it certainly seems more than plausible that all these years later not one has come forward to expose the lies and make a buck or two. Yes yes, completely and totally likely, I couldnt agree more.....

Could have let the russki's have them. Simply they were desperately needed as the Germans were technologically superior to the western allies. If not Braun would have been at Nuremburg for screaming for more slave labourers to build his projects.

True, but then US Scientists had very little incentive. The US Government wasn't funding projects
to kill, deport, or enslave the Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Jewish, and other Slavic populations, deemed
inferior, and to repopulate the world with a master race.

Desperately needed the Germans were, ah yes. Perhaps then, instead of the American flag, our lame brained astronauts should have planted the German flag on the moon? Or even a nazi one? I mean to "thank" the Krauts for getting us there it would surely have been the right thing to do. (dont have enough eye rolls for that one)

I may be remiss, do we also owe the Krauts for Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Surely us pitifully untalented Americans couldnt have developed ground breaking technology all by our pathetical little selves.

I forget, was it the Ameicans who bailed out the Brits, or vice versa? The memory gets a little foggy in my advanced years.....

Stalin is the winner ever with six million ukrainians starved to death in the late thirties, and roughly 10, 15 millions considering the "gulag" starvations, executions and other kind of annihilations, deads during the deportations ( POW, eastern populations) from the 20ies till 1953.



PS: Twenty million....Do you mean killed by the germans during ww2? How do you get this number? And how many soldiers, how many civilians? It s normal to kill enemy soldiers in a war. And also allied killed a huge number of civilians ( especially the russians, but also the western allied in revenge bombings on the civilian quarters of german cities).

Mitch forgot the indians eradicated in the US during 300 years and sistematically annihilated phisically, and psychologically.

It was more of a policy of economic enslavement rather than eradication . Low wages and keep one group of poor people enforcing the system on other poor people with some myth of a superior race.

I don't understand how a thread celebrating the culmination of the goal of the space program could become so vituperative. It took many people to accomplish this feat, Americans, Germans and many other nationalities.

I was living in Madrid at the time and remember watching it on TV. It was a stunning achievement.
