Well the Sand Pebbles isn't my Bag! I ONLY Collect Certain WW2 ERA Theatre -of-Operations! We can't get enough of WW2, because of other Toy Involvements for other NON-WW2 Collectors! But that's OK, in the Toy World Business! There is other AVENUE'S, of WW2 that hasn't been Recognized yet? Hopefully we will see MORE WW2, in the Near Future, I hope Andy doesn't DETOUR away , from WW2, because it has been a Dream come True for MOST of us Collector's; which stems from our Childhood!

"The Sand Pebbles" is one of my favorite movies. I am looking forward to seeing this collection later this evening.

The M26 tank recovery vehicle looks quite promising, too!

You may want to reconsider. The U.S Navy and other branches of the miltary sported WW1 equipments and uniforms until right off 1941 at the outbreak of WWII. I remember seeing pictures of my grandfather who was then a Provincial Commander under the U.S. Commonwealth Army of the Philippines in 1930's. Sailors wore white or dugarees with leggings typcal of WWI. During the Moro campaign in Southern Philippines (yes, we've been at odds with extreme Islamist since the 1900 when the Philippines was ceded by Spain to the U.S. as a result of the defeat of Spain during the Spanish American War), gun boats such as the U.S. Panay (which later sank at the Yangtze river in 1937 by the Japanese dive bombers when they attacked China) were common during the era.

So you can still do early WWII diorama with these new series. You will be surprised to know that the U.S. Marines stationed in the Philippines in 1941 were still sporting the the blue outfit with khaki hats reminiscent of the Teddy Roosevelt era.

The KC gunboat doesn't look any closer to the gunboat USS San Pueblo in the movie...but a good looking model worthy to be collected anyway

Correction. the Gun Boat's name is USS San Pablo not San Pueblo. The KC version looks shorter though. The gub boats were the river patrol craft during that era, in contrast with swift boat in Vietnam.

I've been waiting for a K&C range to come along that would excite me enough to start collecting them as they do make nice figures.I'm sorry but the Sand Pebbles doesn't.On a positive note I'm glad these companies are starting to make some great looking ships and boats.

I think the film was inspired by the Amethyst Affair in 1949 in which a Royal Navy ship was stranded up river on the Yangtze and there were artillery battles with the PRC.

Since K&C is using "USN" for this new line, there is always the possibility they do other U.S. Navy uniforms.

Whatever the inspiration, the events depicted in 'The Sand Pebbles' book and the subsequent movie are works of fiction.
