King and Country Glossy (2 Viewers)

Yeah I heard about that. But if you want to hear a little secret Louis just email me privately.

I seen one of those before a long time ago. Just didn't seem to have the interest in glossy figures at the time.

Brad (Jazzeum) and Louis, thank you for the photos. I've had a wonderful time going through this thread. Beautiful soldiers and great dioramas. It must be something to see them all in the 'flesh,' one set after another.

I don't know how I managed to not notice this thread before but it was truly enjoyable.

I also have a question. In one of the posts we see the photo below with some Indian infantry marching in red jackets and red and yellow turbans. They're off to the right, almost out of the photo. Are they K&C? I bought this set at a show without the original box, and always thought they were castings painted by the seller.

After Chicago, I picked up a set of the original Seaforth Pipes and Drums in the original presentation box (although the box isn't in the greatest of shape) and in mint condition. This is the first time I've actually had them out of the box so I figured I'd shoot a few photos and show them.

There are seven drummers, twelve pipers and a leader.

Louis can give more information about the Palio figures.

Regarding the Camel Corps, they're hard to find and can be expensive. To see other ones, see page two of the Spring 1989 K & C brochure, http://toysoldiersusa.com/cgi-local...res&subcategory=1989&subsubcategory=SPRING 89

Hi Brad and Louis,

This is an awesome thread on K & C glossy figures with some fantastic images.

It took me awhile to get around to this thread which contains so many gems.

Am I correct in my understanding that K & C have stopped producing all gloss figures, 54mm or otherwise?

If so, they must have continued the SOHK range in matte and in larger scale.

The Camel Corps figures are just superb.

Best, Raymond.
:)

Raymond,

Except for SOHK, they have and don't intend to re-start it. Pity. Yes, those Camels are to die for. The camels were actually based on Somerset (I believe they had a contractual relationship at one time) and I have some of the Somerset camels.

A very nice set Brad and it is weird that the SOHK line offers both paint finishes. Both must be profitable otherwise they wouldn't be sold. Wonder if other K&C series would fair as well ?

Scott,

Although I could be wrong on this. I think you'll find that the gloss range is just the matt range with a gloss varnish?

Brad,

Thanks very much for the confirmation.

This is the link to the K & C SOHK gloss range for those interested.

Quite amazing; the K & C website has SOHK on offer in either gloss or matt finish.

I think K & C also produced the British Guards Camel Corps in 1/30 scale and in matte finish.

If I am not wrong, these matte camel corps sets have been retired along with the gloss sets.

Best, Raymond

:)

Raymond,

The only Camel sets that K & C has produced in matte is from the Silk Road series.

I just purchased the Britain's Camel Corps figure and hope to have it next week. When I receive it, I will shoot a couple of shots of my Camel Corps sets, which is a combination of K & C, Trophy, Somerset and now Britains.

The KC gloss figures are really quite something. Makes me very sorry that I somehow missed them, entirely.:( -- lancer

That is correct for the most part. The K&C version of the camel itself is from molds made in China from a Somerset production camel. We did indeed have a verbal contract. At the time I had the impression that it was just to use the Indian camel corps camel and current, (at that time), Indian riders for a particular line of K&C camel corps figures. But that stipulation was never made and I'm perfectly ok with Andy using those two camels, (a pack camel and the same camel with a 25th Punjab style shabraque covering a saddle), ad infinitum.
