King&Country Gathering with Andy......San Antonio,Texas 16 March 2012 (4 Viewers)

Brett..

Its not personal as you seem to think its just a business thing. Finessing ones customers or clients happens all the time. I can't see where you think I was attacking Andy or, that he needed defending
Mitch

Mitch,
Since it does not appear you have been in an audience to listen to Andy one has to wonder about your competance to comment on how he is in such situations.

What you may consider "plays his audience" might be something else to those who have actually met him. Could it be simply that he is a friendly person who likes to meet and socialise with people who buy his products and get some feedback and share ideas. Whilst people don't have to like him or his products one thing very clear is that he makes more effort to travel to meet the people who support his business than any other producer.

Regards
Brett

I'm sure that Andy is a nice person. Its the lack of quality in his products as of late that I have a problem with. K&C make some nice things,I just picked up the downed german aircraft yesterday and the new captured T-34 seems to look nice. Its the soldiers that they have taken steps back on. I'm sure that its the lack of finding skilled workers in that country that is the main problem, but it needs to be corrected. The lack of detail on a lot really show. If collectors don't notice that they are either in denial or just don't have an eye for detail. For how long they have been in business they should be leaps and bounds ahead of their competitors and they are not.

Hey Guys:

One of the benefits besides economics, and only living 3 miles from the heart of San Antonio, is getting to attend three Kings-X cocktail parties a year. Last Friday was a good and the city was hoping.

As mentioned before, there were many reenactors present and performing with music & song. It gave it a realistic and charming atmosphere. Laura, Andy, Martin and the rest of the King & Country Team made sure all of us collectors had a good time. Thanks guys.

See you guys at the Texas Toy Soldier Show here May 26th & 27th.

The Menger Hotel is the host hotel with special show rates for guests. It’s a beautiful hotel but some say its haunted but no worries at least your across from the “Alamo” a block away from the “Riverwalk” and only 2 blocks away from Hemisphere Park. Can’t get much better than that if you’re vacationing can you?

I’m hearing more interest than ever before among other collectors and with even more manufacturers coming this year it should be a blast! Oh yeah, KC is having a special evening event that Saturday night and giving away a special gift figure.

BTW, special thanks to Deanna & Nick (TSSD) for starting this great tradition.

Thanks PA for the update, good info. Alluding to Andy giving information to you, but asking to keep quiet is not out of line. It does appear to make some people jealous about it. Where did Andy ever specifically tell you not to mention Russian items or Stukas? I do not recall ever reading in this forum where you stated otherwise.

PA, thanks for the rundown and pics on this event. It really looks like it was a great time had by all. I have to also think that it's a more intimate environment for that then a large show event, especially with reenactors and musicians. i've had the pleasure of dealing with Joan at Kings X, who's a great gal, and really takes care of her collectors. And as far as Andy, the 2 times I've been in his company, have been some of the most fun I've had with this hobby. All I know is that it's great to be a collector at this time, and King and Country is most of what i collect. Enjoy your new loot

Joe

Thanks Ghostrider and Thompyt. Yes it is sad one or two people have to make rude or snide comments when we are talking about collecting, displaying, and buying Toy Soldiers. Looking forward to the next Toy Soldier gathering with Andy. Whether some like it or not, He clearly shows that he cares about his customers.
Like Desk 11 Desk 12 stated, The Texas Toy Soldier Show is coming Memorial Day weekend. Should be 3 times the fun we had this past weekend......^&grin

I've come home from a hard day at the office and clicked on this thread to see some nice pic's and some cheerful TS banter......to a large extent thats what I've read and observed and I thank PA for taking the time to post the pic's etc.{sm4}

Sadly however, much of the thread has again been hijacked by the same bunch of "school children" who seem to take particular pleasure at slagging each other off over the most trivial matters.

Most of us out here in the real world find it tiresome, boring and and down right rude.......and it's ALWAYS the same blokes doing it.

And before you have a crack at me, take a good long look at your-self in the mirror, remember your age, take a deep breath and take note, this is a hobbie and supposed to be FUN^&grin

The End Of It...........Please!!!

Yep time to return to the fun that this hobby provides. Glad you had a good time PA, as Brad said somewhere yesterday, this forum is very enjoyable indeed, but you just can't beat the human intereaction at these meet ups and Toy Soldier shows. To get together with friends and other collectors, to browse all the product on offer, to chew the fat over a few drinks is what its all about. This hobby has a social side to it that perhaps few people know about , its no longer a solo flight all the time. You gotta love!:smile2:

Mitch,

How would you know ?
Again you manage to somehow make something most people think is a positive appear negative. However you do so having never met Andy when many on this thread have. You will forgive me for siding with those who, like me, have actually met him.

I am not defending Andy but more expressing a view different to yours.

Could you try to be a bit more positive in your outlook as it seems if there is a positive thread you are there to bring some negativity. Or so it appears to me.

I just came home from another hard night at work in the streets of the urban battlefield. I saw your post and just have to say that criticizing K&C for something shouldn't be taken as offensive to members. Trivial matters to me is detail which is part of the hobby. This is not taking a crack at you. Unless you are a bad K&C product.

Brett..

Did you not hear rob and Kiwi to bring this thread to an end of the discussion that has been blown out of all proportion to what I said. my comments were not negative they were remarking on the mans business acuman.Let it go

WELL SAID.

Thanks, Raymond.

Let's knock this on the head chaps before it begins to spiral. It is just more of the same and it is really growing tiresome.

Thanks to all who replied back and liked the coverage and pics of the event. It was a good, fun time and I look forward to the next one ! One last thanks to Andy and crew for the great set up and the show figure giveaway too. Cheers :smile2:

PA you are more than welcome and thanks for sharing your outing with us.Mike B.

well i no first hand at times he let's things slip when your talking to him. If you ask alot questions about the subjects you like he most likley will tell you on the quiet. He told me about the last two tiger's that came out because i said to him that i didn't have one yet and asked when he would make one. So yes he does share intel looking for feedback. Simmo.

hello simmo, you are quite right. I met andy at the 1995 ostn in chicago and he charmed me into some of his last arnhem pieces and started me off on this great collectors journey. Over the years before he had gordon's displays he would bring people to his room and show you some prototypes and use you as a sounding board about future projects. Kinda of nice to get to speak with the boss one on one. I am sure many ought there have had the opportunity. I know for years, maybe a decade, i have beat the drum for the jagdtiger and two chicago shows ago i was rewarded when andy pulled me over after the dinner to let me know they were coming in the next year. What a great feeling. And i had to keep that to myself for six or seven months. But the anticipation was fun. So lets enjoy the hobby and be thankful we have great owners like andy out there that stay close to his customer base.

Hi PA

Does the Alamo range tend to dominate discussion at a show in San Antonio or is it as broad as any other K&C gathering?

Regards

Jack

Firstly thanks to PA for even taking the time to inform the forum about the Texas show. Secondly my two cents about this forum's use. This is directed to not only DesertKiwi but really everyone and even the lurkers out there who rarely post. This forum should ADD to your enjoyment of your recreational hobby, not DIMINISH it. As such use the forum as you would a tool. Some like the historical rivet discussions, others like the positive criticism/debates, some are "cheerleaders" and enjoy pics, others prefer the social element to collecting etc etc etc. Whatever catergory or categories you seem to fall into its all good. Use this forum to pursue your passion your way and if your way doesn't jive with someone else's then ignore it and focus your time and energy on another thread or section of the forum that adds to your enjoyment of your collection.....AND THATS AN ORDER FROM YOUR CYBER FIELD MARSHALL........FALL OUT!:salute::
