King & Country Museum Under Construction (4 Viewers)

The carpet guys are hard at work! Photos will be forwarded to Brad for posting as soon as they are done.

The carpet is installed in the main room, and is going into the two side rooms as I write this. The carpet crew said they would be done by 4:00 p.m. this afternoon! The main room looks great. The tapestry on the banquettes ties the color of the carpet and the paint together perfectly. I will take and send photos to Brad to be posted by about 4:05 p.m.

So how did it come out?
What about the pictures?
I hear you had a great contractor.

I'm afraid I have to out you, Lou: The "Contractor" is the Contractor, Lou, the G.C. responsible for building my museum. And in answer to your question, it came out better than I could even imagine.

I just sent 7 photos of the finished room to Brad to post for me. Of course, Lou has to come back and do a couple of finishing touches like attaching the covers for the air conditioning ducts, and the upholstered banquette seats are being delivered Saturday, but it is ready to be loaded. So Brad, see you and your family Saturday.

This is very exciting. Hats off to LOU - the contractor. On time and on budget ? (Hopefully).

Well ahead of the promised time, but, due to many extras I decided to add in progress, a bit over budget. Still, I really couldn't be more pleased.

Welcome to the Museum!

Brad editorial comment: who is that goofy guy?

Here is the main room (with the museum's first two visitors).

Brad editorial comment: Alec is probably already scheming how he can get the Horsa and B 17 into his room!

I guess the answer would actually be both yes and no.
There were No "hidden" charges.
No "oops, look what we stumbled on charges".

Several upgrades were made. Not however upgrades as in sell low upgrade later...........but rather items Louis didn't think he would want at the beginning, which were presented, then added later.
Also quite a few legitimate additions both Lou and I made along the way as the room developed.

I would like to mention that the pipe area that resulted in that fancy raised panel bar area was not an additional charge.

And...........let me say....I forgot to include the AC duct work in the original estimate and contract. As I moved forward still having them installed, (as a I vividly remembered the AC conversation), Louis insisted on paying for it.

Louis is a very stand up guy and it was a great pleasure to work with him.

I want to be clear, the overbudget comment was not a reflection on Lou, it was a reflection on my desire to add things as we went along. It was me who exceeded the budget, not Lou.

As he mentioned, Lou didn't even want me to pay for the airconditioning work (which he had accidentally failed to include in the estimate), but I insisted on paying.

Lou is also a stand up guy, a great guy to have work on your house, and those who attend this year's symposium will meet him, and those who attand future symposiums (symposia?) will see a great deal more of his work on my house.

OUTSTANDING LOU!

Well when I am ready - in about 5 years - Your next museum can be built in Washington...:D

Louis,

Looks fantastic. Look forward to pics of the fully stocked museum.

Aren't you a little afraid of the 'Daddy, can I go and play toy soldiers upstairs?' question? :D

Have fun setting up.

Simon

I don't think I would be so concerned about the question being asked, and what it implies; I would be more concerned about the lack of noise when you know gosh darn well that there should be the sound of children (child) playing. Its the silence that concerned me more as a parent than the noise of children at play cause you know very much that they are doing something they should not and are being very carelful not to attract attention. Raising children is just like combat, ya gota watch your back ;)
