Sorry Martyn, I do not know what happened.

Hi John
Nice figures.
You are right, they are Grenadier Guards and were part of the Big Box set “The Battle of Tel El-Kebir”, they were also released as a 6 figure set TEK. 3

John

Looks like you are only missing the bugler to have the complete TEK 3 set, did they come with their box?

Cheers

Martyn:)

Martyn,
Thank you so much, you are the authority. I know this has been mentioned before, but a Trophy of Wales Reference book with lots of glossy photos would be fantastic, your the man for the job;). Seriously, it would be a neat project for a group of us to work on.

John , I would love to see a book available or a website;)

I am not positive, but it appears this could be a mixed generational set. The base on one figure doesn't appear to be cobblestone? Mark, can you confirm?

Tom
Tom, they are all Trophy figures by the stampings but yes you may be right as the man holding the ball has a thicker non-cobblestone base. I wasn't aware of different sets...but now I know:(

In addition if this set is a mixed generational would you happen to know what set the non-cobblestone figure comes from???

Hey,
That is a nice set for sure. I do not mean to speak for Tom, but I think the non-cobblestone base figure came from the same Dragon Gun set, just one produced later in Trophy's production period. Some of the earlier Trophy figures tend to look scrawny next to the more robust figures produced later.

Not only do the earlier sets look scrawny, but they also tend towards awkward poses. While a few of the later sets look awkward, for the most part the sculpts are more robust, more active, and more natural.

Agree with all comments, I think they all have their place in collections! But yes, there are differences not only in the base between the generations. See also the design on the chest of the uniform.

No matter, the Dragon gun is still my favorite set!

Anyhow, no matter really Mark, as I think we have conversed in the past, Trophy is not a straightforward "catalog" like other makers. Even the same set in the same generation could come in 3 different size boxes!

Also, boxes are nice, but in my opinion, if you collect Trophy, the thrill of finding just the pieces intact is a plus in my book. It is nice to find the boxes, but if I find a set I have been seeking, I don't care as much about the box at that point!

With this set...the whole box idea went out the window, as it didn't have one:) I hope this trend doesn't continue!

Dont get hung up on Trophy boxes, they are great for storage, but not necessary to accumulate a good collection! They do help your resale, but not by much.

Example, out of that collection that I sold for a friend, latest round, original Chinese Infantry , kneeling firing set of 5 no box, old style thin figures sold for over $600 on their own!

Tom

Finding Trophy boxes at the right price is a whole new ball game, there were also several design changes on the boxes

Cheers

Hey Martin et al,
Just spoke with a collector who out of the blue told me he had so little space left for his collection that he'd just taken 100 or so assorted size boxes from his Trophy sets down to the dump!!
If he was a bit nearer I'd have gone and rescued them myself.!!

Best
