Let it snow (2 Viewers)

Just finished clearing my driveway a second time. At least 18 inches on the ground here now. We might see two feet before its done. So much for 4-8 inches as they were forecasting Thursday.

I spent two hours cutting a path to the road with the snow blower. Back breaking because it is waist deep. There is probably two and a half feet of snow on the road that will get plowed back in front of the driveway when they get to it. At least it seems to be slowing down. Can't believe all the people trapped on the highways. Very stupid and dangerous. Some people were complaining about canceling the hockey game tonight. LOL.

Can't understand people. They are told to stay off roads and yet out they go.Don't know if it makes them think they are brave or tough but it can cost them their lives. One thing, they are definitely stupid.

This large, unprecedented snow fall is causing all sorts of structural collapse problems in the county. So far only one collapse has displaced people, with no injuries, but the problems could spread as the snow continues unabated at this hour. Snow totals approaching 30 inches in my area. Starting to wonder if it is ever going to let up. -- Al

Now that you all have your driveways cleared, I'm curious as to where you're going to go.

They keep showing us here in PA with about two feet but my ruler tells a different story. We are 30 inches and counting. Much more than predicted for this area and it has picked up again.

At least residents at the National Zoo are enjoying the weather.

While it's snowing, I stay put, period, I venture out once it stops.

Last year I had to travel to attend a show in Lancaster PA in March; they were calling for a big storm to move through the area and then up the coast.

I planned it all out, drove West instead of south, then headed south once I got to PA and according to the weather people, I'd arrive in Lancaster after the snow had moved out.

Well as usual, the weather people were wrong, the storm stalled out over PA and I drove into it from the north, took my about 2.5 hours to travel the last leg of the trip, should have taken about 45 minutes without snow, saw nothing but accidents, spun out vehicles, jackknifed trucks, it was a disaster, I took my life in my hands driving a rear wheel drive van in that crap.

Just stupid of me, I should have stayed home; my biggest phobia is driving in the snow..................

Cleared my driveway a third time. The snow on either side is now taller than the top of my snow blower, at least 20 inches, maybe more.

It actually is starting to let up! Just light snow now, the end is in sight.^&grin -- Al

All,

Been watching it on and off all day and keeping in touch with a couple of friends in NJ and upstate NY and of course you guys!

I don't know how you do it. I absolutely dislike (ok, I will say it...I hate it) cold weather, snow and everything that goes with it. One too many nights in a fox hole in Korea in the fall/winter have forever cured me of cold weather. I don't do camping trips, I don't hunt, I do nothing that requires me to stay outside overnight with out a bed, sheets, heat, air, commode and a bed. I don't shovel, blow or scrap frost or snow from any part of my house or car. But, I certainly empathize with you guys as I had to do it once or twice in my life.

Hey Louis B isn't there a neighborhood kid who will do your driveway for you? I mean three times in one day? To me that's like cutting the grass three times in a day. Heck no.

John from Texas

Well this is one storm they didn't overplay.Flooding along the coast, worse than Sandy in some places.Cost will be in billions. And of course the most tragic cost of all, people's lives.

John,

I was using a snow blower, so it is not so bad. My face was pretty frozen, but the rest of me was bundled up pretty good. When I moved up here from Beaumont, Texas in 1993, I was not prepared at all for what was then the worst winter in New York City history. I hated it (and frankly, winter is still my least favorite season), but I have gotten used to it. In a blizzard like this one, there are no neighborhood kids around, so I had to do it myself. Three times was necessary, as my snow blower could handle up to a foot at a time, but not the two and a half feet we got overall. Indeed, in a couple of hours when the sun rises, I will be out there one last time, to clear the last 6-8 inches of snow on my driveway.

Keep warm and safe everybody!

The aftermath. It is bitterly cold today. The roads, as you can see, are empty. In the third photo the mailbox is buried; in big snows mailboxes are often the victims when the snow plows come through.

That it does Chris but on one side of our roof we have lots of snow. Quite concerned about that. Hopefully, when it gets a little warmer this week, some of it will melt or the winds will knock some of it off. There is no way I'm going up there. Just too dangerous.

Smart man, Brad. Stay off the roof. Pitched roofs and snow/ice are not the friend of man. I speak from experience, both work and personal. Gravity will hurt you. Always safer keeping feet on the ground.:wink2:
We ended up with record snowfalls throughout the area. Baltimore and surrounding area had the most ever. Germantown and upper county area had record amounts. Maryland closed all of Route 270 and most of Route 70 for most of the night, only reopening them this AM. Now for the big dig-out. Stay safe, everyone. The only digging I will be doing is through the pantry, feeding my face.^&grin -- Al

Be safe Brad. Hope all turns out well. Chris

I just spent the last 30 minutes (through the upstairs windows) trying to knock off some of the snow. Let's see what happens.
