......... When it was finished i noticed that 'The Magnificent 7' was on right at that time so i got a ticket and went in for the first 40 minutes.
Bad acting, predictable, just shooting and none of the main characters getting hurt at all.
Boring. Should have went straight to DVD.

A touchstone I always use on whether I have enjoyed or have been moved by a film is simply, am I still thinking about it a day or so later. As I mentioned in a previous post the new M7 is not a memorable film but is still an enjoyable two hour viewing, but until writing this post I had practically forgotten all about it.
To remake a classic movie is always a huge gamble for Hollywood and especially in the recycling of a movie which every western fan has included in their top ten western list. I would certainly not agree that the acting was bad, far from it- Predictable? of course- its a remake.
However, I thought parts of the script were well written- in particular the following line of dialogue:
"You seek revenge?"
"I seek righteousness, but I'll take revenge"
That one utterance contains the whole ethos of this new version that was missing from the original.
There were of course many scenes/dialogue that paid homage to the old version, the recruitment of the seven, the knife vs gun duel, the McQueen line of the man who fell off a tall building was heard to say as he passed the sixth floor "so far so good" was repeated a number of times. Also the lost nerve and fear of the old Robert Vaughn gunfighter character I thought was given greater clarification with Ethan Hawke's ex-Confederate sniper suffering from PTSD.
To summarise:- the new Magnificent 7 is OK....... its the film's title that's wrong.
