MD's painted kits thread (2 Viewers)

Overall pretty happy with the results, though in natural light I can see the sunburn and much of the shading are overdone and poorly blended.

Up next will be a 54 mm metal gun-slinger and details will follow so stay tuned.

Feedback and constructive criticism are always appreciated.

Just "stumbled onto this thread MD. Your finished products are very, very nicely done. I need to get one of those OptiVisors.

Dave...if I had done this figure...I would be overall pretty happy too...yours looks better than the one on the box...great job...really looking forward to the gunslinger...

Like Mike I also just stumbled on to this thread MD. Nicely done both the first and second time around.

Hey, thanks guys.

I'm telling you Mike.....if you are at all inclined to paint, just get yourself one of these magnifiers and a couple of decent teeny tiny brushes and I think you will find it very rewarding. :)

Dave ...I have a nice magnifying head set...honestly...if I could paint the eyes on figures...I would add a lot of stuff to my collection...I'm okay with everything but the eyes...my work is so bad on the eyes...I just can't stand it...you seem to have mastered yours very well...I have been thinking of buying a resin camel set by Tiger Models...and I just pulled the trigger and bought it because of this thread....if my work turns out half as good as yours...it could be a very nice piece...if it ends up okay looking...I'll show it on here...

Very nice figures and really, nicely painted. I think your being too critical about your own work. I guess I am fortunate to not have to use any visual aids (as yet) to paint figures and details. Amazing what can be done with a 10/0 and a steady hand.

Thanks for posting
Mitch

Thanks for the additional comments guys.

Mike, I am glad to hear I have inspired somebody.
Seriously I am happy to hear that you have finally purchased this kit and I hope you enjoy the process sufficiently and end up buying more. I do the eyes and face first because it is the most challenging part. You can always paint over them and start over. A good chum of mine suggested painting a vertical stripe from upper to lower lid over the center of the eyeball and then painting over the ends with skin tone which leaves a nice looking eyeball, so try that next time.

Cheers for the vote of confidence Mitch, and I whole-heartedly agree about the glorious 10-0 brush. :)

Finished item number 3 earlier today. This is one of a pair by Pizarro Miniatures in metal this time. Again a low priced item (never mind the sticker on the box ). Casting was a bit rough and the Rt side of the face, ear and head were a bit mangled, but not beyond suitable patching up.

And here he is finished. I wanted to add at least a little something to the base on this one, though cannot get too carried away as these guys are eventually meant to inhabit a dry dusty street with little in the way of vegetation and the like. Was pleased with more subtle shading on this one than the last. Got a couple more primed and ready to start.....

Thanks a lot Mike, and I'd love to paint your camel for you, but then you'd be missing out on all the fun and enjoyment. Sounds like you've already got everything you need.

I've presently got 9 or 10 characters planned for this little street scene and I'll be half-way there shortly. There will be some terrain and John Reid inspired wooden structural items to complete the project eventually. Just picked up a new 18/0 sable brush and a half dozen more shades of paint today.

Dave....sounds like you have a very nice project on your hands...I'm glad to see you're enthusiastic about it...I bet it will turn out really nice...keep us posted...

Very nice Dave, you certainly are knocking these out. Looking forward to the next figure.

Well, like it or not, I will keep you all posted with each new addition, Mike.

And thanks Scott. It has now become a very relaxing way to spend my un-programmed moments during the week. In fact, I have just now started painting the next 2 characters. :D

Dave, not hanging around much are you? At this rate you will have finished the whole town before Christmas.;):D

Haven't heard of let alone seen these figures before so a good thread you have got going here…

Looks another really nice painted figure excellent work
Mitch

Thanks fellas. And yes, Jeff, there is an amazing variety of kits to be had in both metal and resin. Some are better than others quality wise, but the possibilities are nearly endless depending on your interests.

As I said in the opening of this thread, it is nice to practice on these less expensive models for a while so I can more confidently move on to other projects down the road. Lots of potential for improvement when I look at the work of some of you truly talented artists on here. Anybody that has not yet looked, for example, at What Rod Debrito has posted recently with his Saxon Warrior by La Torre models will see what I mean.

MD

Nice work on your figure painting. Each figure shows improvements. Interesting thread. John
