MD's painted kits thread (1 Viewer)

Nice work on your figure painting. Each figure shows improvements. Interesting thread. John

Thanks for the kind comment John. I enjoy this very much, and only frustrated that I have not had much time to paint yet this week.

More nice work, Dave! I like how you're experimenting, too, with work on the bases to add more details. Well done!

Prost!

Thanks for the compliment, Brad. Appreciated coming from an accomplished painter like yourself.

Still have not had a chance to do any more work this week as I have been preoccupied with painting on a larger scale. (i.e. "please paint the entire basement this week darling")

Hope to be back in action soon.

Now that the basement is sorted out, I have managed to assemble and paint a few more kits.

First is the couterpart to the other Pizarro cowboy I posted previously. And I apologize about the rubbish lighting this morning, but as you can see from the background, outdoor photography is out of the question here today...

2nd item is another 54mm resin kit from Streets of Laredo. This will likely be the last addition to the "cowboy village" for a while as I intend to move onto some other subjects for a while now.

And last but not least is another sale item kit I've had standing around for ages, but just did not get to until this week. He is a 54 mm metal kit from H&Z miniaturen.

Nice work on this figure. I noticed the work on the base looks good. Also, the buckskin is done nicely. I might suggest that a little lighter dry brush or highlights on the brown cape around his neck. The color blends in with his skin color which is fine. I am no expert so my opinion might mean you don't have to change anything. :) John

Thanks for the feedback John. I was quite pleased with how the base turned out on this one as well.

As for the buffalo robe and the fur, I have had the same thoughts as you and wish I had done more with that bit. The learning curve continues......:)

I'm no expert either MD either but I like the way it looks, especially the base.

Good morning Dave. Just thought I would drop in and see how you are progressing and WOW! Your latest three figures are just excellent and very well done . . . . . . .
:) Mike

Thanks fellas. These were the last of my so-called practice kits. I have been stockpiling figures from Andrea, Pegaso and LaMeridiana for a while now and have just started work on the first of these. The difference in crispness of cast detail is amazing. Some of these already done on here were pretty rough with worn away bits and broken or flawed parts (for example the barrel of that Indian's rifle is a bit of paper clip, and half of one of the cowboys heads is reconstructed with wood glue and saw dust ).

Hope to have something new up in a week or so....:)

Hi Dave, a good selection of figures you have painted. Not so much green but you'll get there! ;):D As previously stated I've not seen any of these before, so keep them coming. :)

Something green you say, eh Jeff?

Hmmmmmm.....let me see if I can come up with something. Stay tuned.

Nice, neat painting Dave. Thanks for posting. :)

You'll find the better the sculpt and casting job, the easier to make painting look good. The Pegaso's should be the best of the bunch.

Thank you for the feedback Wendy. And I would be remiss not to mention that I really enjoyed your article in the latest issue of "The Standard". Your work environment appears to be remarkably compact and portable.

I am well into a really nice recently released item from Andrea now and could not agree more about the improved painting experience as the quality of casting rises.

Hope to see you at work at a show some day. Perhaps you would consider an appearance at one of Paul Hermann's Spring open houses in Milwaukee for example.

Here are a few progress pics of my current project. This is a nicely sculpted figure from Andrea and has been a lot of fun to work on so far. Have spent more time layering colors on him and have high hopes for the finished product. Need to add more washes to the clothing and belts after I have started the web cartridge belt I think. I will try to be better about posting occasional updates with this one.
