Mike Tarantino's Toy Soldier Collection (2 Viewers)

Hiriart also used the Africa version of the Panzer II in double catalog Set 1220 DEUTSCHES AFRIKA KORPS which also includes a motorcycle with MG42 machine gun sidecar, PAK40 anti-tank gun, and a Rommel personality figure.

Thanks, Joe, I am glad you like them. FYI: Buzz Thorpe sells Hiriart each year at the Chicago Show, maybe he might have them there.

Hi Joe,

I don't know whether Buzz will have those particular sets available or not since Hiriart has 355 sets in their regular catalog plus another 40 sets in their Spanish Civil War catalog. In any case, the price for the DAK double set is $260 while the single Panzer II sets are $135. That is not quite as pricey as Metal Shed's PZ II, which is just charming. If Buzz doesn't have the sets, I do have the Panzer II, Africa set available plus this special non-catalog DAK set with 10 figures including Rommel as in the attached photo.

I don't know if you met Metal Sheds Bruce Hebron before, but he is quite excentric---a real character. He usually wears a sports coat with a wild, gaudy tie that might have been worn by the Marx Brothers, and shorts. As the year before, I had dinner with him, Bob Walker, and Roy Easton Saturday evening at the West Coaster. He is a funny guy.

Mike ,

No , i have not met Bruce...I bought my Metal Shed Pz II @ the Chicago Show from a gentlemen who was as he said Bruce's/Metal Shed's salesman for Chicago... I cannot recall his name at this moment , was twelve years ago...
So , i take it that you collect & also import Hiriat for others as well ?!
I have always had an affinity for the smaller ww2 AFV's & armoured cars...As well as the desert war in North Afrika...
I would really be interested in picking up set's 1279 & 1280...European & DAK Pz II 's both beautiful looking set's...Let me know how to if possible ?!
I take it you don't go to the Chicago Show ?! I really wanted to go this last year , but my work schedule didn't work out for me...
I definetly plan on making it this year , i already warned the wife...I will attach another pic from Metal Shed i got a grey 222...
Thanks for sharing all the pics...

Joe,

What a great Metal Shed WWII German 222 armoured car. I didn't realize that Bruce had a salesman working for him or on his behalf. Actually, I have attended 15 Chicago Shows since 1993, but I won't be attending this year again since I am seriously considering going to the Texas Show in May for the first time.

Yes, I both collect and import Hiriart toy soldiers from Uruguay. I limit my order to 120 set per year due to Hiriart's production capacity limitations. I have already submitted my 2013 order and my 2014 order is complete with 115 firm orders (including sets for me) and five general re-sale sets. However, I can delete re-sale sets for anything you might like to order next year. As I mentioned earlier, I do have the 1272 DAK set available now. If you are interested, why don't you email me at matara42@roadrunner.com so we can continue this conversation without boing other Forum members? There are about two dozen Forum members who have ordered Hiriart sets through me.

This is Hiriart's Set 1207 FIAT-ANSALDO CV33 CARROARMATO TANKETT. The version of this set that I have is slightly different with the crewman wearing a leather, Italian-style tankers helmet rather than the steel helmet shown in the photo.

This is Hiriart's desert version of set 1207 in the previous post. I just sold it last Sunday at the West Coaster, but I am reordering it with the figures wearing sun helmets rather than steel helmets.

I don't know the name of the person but in the shows that I've attended there is someone else other than Bruce running the Metal Shed table or doing the room trading in Chicago for Metal Shed.

Joe, you might want to contact Ed Curiel or take a look at some of his posts on here. He is a huge Metal Shed collector and has a lot of what Bruce has made.

In about 1995, I picked up a number of sets from a British manufacturer who made a line called Gerry Ford's Elite Forces. They were carried by Toy Troops in Huntington Beach, California, but when the shop was sold at that time, the new owner dropped the line. These sets are from World War II to modern times in their coverage. I have only seen them a couple of times on eBay and never at the West Coaster or Chicago Shows. The first set is of FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION PARATROOPERS AT KOLWEZI, 1978.

This is a newly introduced Hiriart non-catalog set which I have ordered of WORLD WAR I TURKISH ARTILLERY. I am also considering ordering this set with the figures painted with the same uniforms as in post #555 as at Gallipoli.

To quote Montgomery Burns, "Excellent." -- Al

Thanks Al, I knew you would like them. One of the things that originally attracted me to Hiriart in the first place was the large number of French Military sets they make. I checked my catalog list and there are 45 sets to date. Pretty impressive.

This is Hiriart's set number one in its catalog: Set 1001 FUERZA AEREA, ARGENTINA or the Argentine Air Force.
