Mlb 2022 (2 Viewers)

The media really still hates Pete Rose. The guy is far from perfect but compared to many others in MLB history and professional sports he is a saint. In my opinion, guys like Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire were worse. Just a little better in apologizing and bowing down when they were caught. Rose never groveled to their satisfaction. Many other examples in every sport. Ray Lewis. Most of these players are still treated as heroes by the media and fans.

The Rose situation has become something of a pet peeve of mine, mainly because of the increasing and overwhelming presence of legal betting in MLB. Can't watch a pre-game, post-game, or even an actual game without being bombarded by betting odds in regards to some portion of the game. I have come around to believing that while Rose may have been guilty of betting, he now appears to be small potatoes compared to what now goes on in baseball today, where gambling is widely encouraged for the fan base. Perhaps Rose was simply ahead of his time. Just how long can it be before an active player(s) sucumbs to the temptation of the current betting climate? Time to forgive Rose his mortal sin. -- Al

Rose's record speaks for itself. No way he shouldn't be in the HOF. I'm sure the media has done far worse.

The Dodgers just swept the Padres outscoring them 20-4 in three games. They are now 15.5 games ahead of SD. It's a long season, but things are looking good. That's with Bellinger and Muncy not playing well. Both of whom are showing some signs.

His prowess at the game speaks for itself. He’s one of the best to ever play. However, that isn’t the issue. Baseball has one cardinal rule: don’t bet on baseball. You break that rule and you’re banned from the game. That’s why Shoeless Joe Jackson is not in the Hall and that’s why Rose is not, and will never be, in the Hall. Moreover, Rose bet on his team. On his own team! How stupid can you be. The difference between Rose and the betting that is prevalent today is that there are no players betting on baseball; they know what would happen and with the online trail that is easy to trace, I’m sure few ever will. If some players do bet on baseball, they will suffer the same fate as Rose and Jackson. There is too much money in today’s game to risk it all on online betting.

while all the National League division leaders are improving their records the last week and a half...
all 3 on nice winning streaks..
both the Yankees and Astros are struggling to win games...
the Yankees blanked by the Cardinals and losing the series to Seattle has them in a funk...
while the Astros just can't score runs...

I'm not sure why that is the "cardinal rule" of baseball. Particularly, since as Al points out, MLB and all other professional sports are all in on the betting. Raking in the money. In my opinion as a fan, cheating is a much bigger issue. Guys like Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire who were juiced (and many others) should be scrubbed from the record books. The media doesn't like Rose because he doesn't say the right things. He is not woke enough for them. He doesn't grovel and apologize to them. I don't particularly like the guy, but he has been punished enough.

It’s the cardinal rule because the Black Sox Scandal nearly broke the game and it certainly tarnished its reputation.

It’s not a media thing. He broke “the” rule. However, I’m sure a factor is that he’s never been contrite about it. People will forgive you if you accept responsibility and so forth. There is no chance he gets in the Hall.

Happy to see my Mets put some distance between them and the Braves. It was a big weekend for the Mets.

It was a statement series. Austin Riley shot off his mouth by saying “we’re coming for them.” We came for you Buster and took you down.

Now, with Jake back we have the killer starting rotation.

That was over a hundred years ago and a different circumstance. Modern baseball has sold out to betting. Time to let it go. I think this has become a test of will between the woke media and Rose.

That it was a hundred years has no effect in its continued importance. As to the difference between Rose and online betting, I have already explained that so no need to, as my Mother used to say, “chew my cabbage twice.”

The Soto trade is not exactly paying dividends. The Padres have lost five in a row, been shutout in back to back games, scored four runs in the last four games, been swept by the Dodgers, and now are 16 games out of first. They also have to wear those McDonald's inspired uniforms. It's a long season, but they are going down like the Titanic at the moment.

Getting back to the Rose situation I think people should vote them in not media.

The Padres always seem to win the trading deadline, and make the flashy moves, but not playoff games.

The Dodgers have won ten in a row. Gallo smashed a three run HR last night. Looking good.

Dodgers...Mets and Philly are lighting it up...
Yankees and Astros are struggling to get wins...
Yankees on an especially bad run...

Ex-Nat trey Turner is leading the way for the Dodgers. What a great 'get' he was, the much more valuable part of the trade for LA than Scherzer. Sure miss Turner here in DC, but glad to see him doing so well. -- Al

O's now 6 games over .500 and 'only' 12 games back of NY, and closing. Never would have thought they could hang in like this but they are playing good ball and are only 1.5 games out of the WC. Sure is fun to be watching the O's play meaningful baseball this time of year. Only 4 teams in the AL have a better record than the O's, quite an improvement over the 2021 O's. -- Al
