That article is a bit deceiving because on the ticket agencies (I use Seat Geek), prices will vary, from section to section, seller to seller. I’d have to know where those seats are before criticizing the fans. On top of that, the games is on a Sunday night; people have to work the next day and if you drive, leaving the parking garages can take around an hour. In addition, they jack up the prices for everything once you get there.

I was contemplating going to Citi for a game but prices for not great seats were around $185. Prices did drop, for similar reasons, game on a Sunday, etc. It’s also a real pain to get there if you don’t live in the city. When I attended a game this year, it took about 2.5 hours to get home.

There are a lot of factors why prices dropped.

I saw all those people sitting in the rain for hours during the Phillies game and then imagined them sitting in the God-awful Philly traffic for hours to get home. And paying hundreds for the privilege. What a nightmare. How they get anyone to attend sporting events is beyond me when you can sit at home and watch for free.

A few weeks after the game I went to at Citifield, I went to the US Open, which is right next door. Took the train and the subway out and it was so much easier than sitting in traffic. As for rain games, I didn’t mind that when I was a kid. Now, forget it. No thanks.

Being a lifelong Phillies fan I am more than happy that they made it but in the old days it would have been the Dodgers and Astros.

No dog in this fight as I do not care for the Philadelphia or Houston but if I had to chose I'd like to see Trey Mancini get a World Series ring.

Then there is this via Bloomberg:

Houston and Philadelphia face off in the World Series starting Friday, but keep in mind the Phillies have only won amid economic turmoil: the financial crisis of 2008 and the recession in the early 1980s. Back when the Athletics played in Philadelphia, the team won during the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and the Great Depression of 1930. You may want to consider rooting for the Astros this year—if only for the sake of the economy.

Umm...........how can it get any worse?

Actually, I shouldn't say that, I suppose it can get a lot worse.

However, the As won the World Series in 1910, 1911 and 1913 so that theory gets shot to hell.

Of course the whole idea is a bit of a joke. Not meant to be serious. After all correlation does not imply causation.

That said, I have no idea how the market or economy performed in 1910, 1911 or 1913

yes...I thought that strange too...quite a gap...
both teams advanced last Sunday and now get 5 days rest...
everybody should be equally well rested to start their best..

There is always a gap between the championship series and the start of the WS. Usually it hurts one team because a LCS might go six or seven but this year both teams clinched early so this won’t be an excuse.

I didn't realize that there are no US born black players on either the Phillies or Astros. Something like the first time this has happened in the World Series since the 1950s.

here's a stat that surprised me...

Verlander is 0-6 with a 5.68 ERA in seven career World Series starts...

Yeah that really surprised me. Remembering all the great American born black ballplayers of my youth that's kinda sad. Hopefully baseball can start drafting more, develop the talent out there. Only so many can become football and basketball players.

The percentage of black ballplayers in MLB has been constantly declining for years. In 2008, the percentage of black players was 10.2 %. By this last season, it was down to 7.2%. Been trending down and has reached it's lowest point in 3 decades. -- Al

Verlander looked untouchable for 3 innings, then his WS record raised it's ugly head. I don't see how the Astros can trust him again. You only get so many chances and I think Verlander has burned through his. Question is, who do you use instead? -- Al

Al:

Great post.

No need to worry though, according to ESPN and MLB Network the Phillies are already World Series Champs.

It really was a remarkable comeback win for the Philles, down 5-0 to Verlander and won it anyway. Hot is hot but the Astros are a very good team and won't lay down over one loss. -- Al

starting pitchers...
both Verlander and Nola screwed the pooch last night...
each gave up 6 hits and 5 runs...each gave up 2 walks and had K's...
but Verlander was really humbled by blowing a 5 run lead...

after the Astros got that lead...I said to myself...this game is over...
not so fast my friend...

this has to be totally demoralizing to the Astros...
to squander a 5 run lead with your ace on the mound...

tonight's game is a must win for the Astros...
it will show what type of mettle they have...
Framber really needs to give his best effort tonight...
