Verlander looked untouchable for 3 innings, then his WS record raised it's ugly head. I don't see how the Astros can trust him again. You only get so many chances and I think Verlander has burned through his. Question is, who do you use instead? -- Al

Al...I don't think it will change the rotation at all...I'm guessing Baker will start Verlander as soon as his turn comes up again...

Yep. Despite my speculation and opinion, the WS is probably not the time or place to blow up the starting rotation, even if your star SP is snake-bitten. -- Al

agreed...
like Bum Phillips used to say...
"You dance with the one that brung you."...

starting pitchers...
both Verlander and Nola screwed the pooch last night...
each gave up 6 hits and 5 runs...each gave up 2 walks and had K's...
but Verlander was really humbled by blowing a 5 run lead...

after the Astros got that lead...I said to myself...this game is over...
not so fast my friend...

this has to be totally demoralizing to the Astros...
to squander a 5 run lead with your ace on the mound...

tonight's game is a must win for the Astros...
it will show what type of mettle they have...
Framber really needs to give his best effort tonight...

Dusty Baker is the classic lovable loser; great regular season manager, he soils himself in the playoffs.

Up 5-0 with a fully rested bullpen, when the wheels started to come off for Verlander, YANK HIM............what on earth was he thinking levingf him in?

That loss is on him, no excuse to do what he did, just a ******* decision.

The big bats for Houston had better wake up asap, imagine the crowds at games 3, 4 and 5, an outdoor insane asylum, they need to win tonight and win game 3 to quiet them down or else.............................

Verlander only had 36 pitches to get through the 3rd...barely warmed up...
he definitely struggled through the 4th...26 pitches and 3 runs...left 2 on base...so it could of been worse...
still..
I would of kept JV in with a 2 run lead going into the 5th...
I thought he would go 6 or 7 before they went to the bullpen...

but like you said...the wheels fell off...
JV is now 0-7 in WS playoff games...
better win tonight or I think a comeback is insurmountable...

and those big bats have been silent through the playoff...
meaning Altuve and Alvarez...

Just remember the 2019 WS when the home team lost every single game in the 7 game series... -- Al

I would have gone to my rested bullpen, which has been lights out all playoffs long, but then again, I'm not an MLB manager and Dusty has been around a long, long time.

But more to you your point, Altuve and Alvarez need to wake up.

ASAP.

and right on cue, Altuve and Alvarez both come through in the first inning.

If they wake up for good, it's a series changer as they are both so important to their offense.

Not a die hard bball fan but watched first 2 games. Entertaining, I guess, BUT did I miss something? Why is every comment leading you to believe the Phillies are victims? I just read 2 articles and treats the Astros as pariah because they dared to win game 2, hell from my angle, should have won both. Like I said, I don't follow this, but you won't catch me pining for the Phillies. They don't act or look like victims to me, honestly, they look arrogant if I had to give any impression. GO ASTROS.

TD

Been a good 2 games so far. Plenty of drama and something for most baseball fans. Big question seems to be whether the Astros can overcome Dusty's curse and whether the Phillies starting pitching can come around and stop putting them in a hole from the word Go. -- Al

Three years ago yesterday the Nats won the World Series.

I am not sure why but it seems more like 300.

Sure does but at least the owners managed to dismantle the Champs in just the blink of an eye. No use keeping a winning team together. -- Al

It's November and we are still yet to play game three of the WS. They might have to start Spring Training before this season ends.

One might think that with the playoffs seemingly expanding every year, that a cut in the regular season game totals might be logical, to say 154 games. But NOOOO! That messes with the $$$$$$$$$$$. If the seasons continue to lengthen, expect a set of 'warm weather' rules to be initiated. No teams with cold weather climates can be allowed in the WS, so only Cali or Texas teams can play when the season hits January. Makes sense to me. -- Al

Nice Hr barrage by the Phillies last night. Harper and Schwarbs just killed the ball. Houston needs Game 4, bad. -- Al

Al...
a friend called me this morning...
said Smoltz was insinuating McCullers might have been tipping off his pitches...
whatever it was...they crushed him...

Houston...we have a problem...

It's a puzzle. McCullers only gave up 6 hits, but 5 were Hrs. Tipping pitches? I would have expected a higher hit total in that scenario. I just think he had nothing on the ball and those that connected simply hit it out. Whatever the answer, it is just one game and tonight's game is Houston's chance to bounce back and stay even. Maybe Baker needs to reconsider his strategy in regards to Harper, who is red hot and proving to able to rise to the occasion with runners on. Years ago, Harper was in just such a groove when the Nats played the Cubs. The Cubs walked him 3/4 of his at bats in that series, taking him out of the equation. It also threw his timing off and it took him quite a while to recover his swing. Not saying this strategy would work on a more mature Harper at this point, but pitching to him with runners on isn't working either. -- Al

Always nice to see history. Congratulations to a most impressive pitching performance by Dusty's boys. Gotta love baseball...one night you hit 5 Hrs, the very next night, you can't hit squat. A fun series so far. -- Al
