As we sit on the cusp of YED, my second favorite holiday (Christmas is #1), I think based on the weather forecasts we won't have any baseball for two days, maybe three.

We'll see.

The forecast doesn’t look promising. I’m like you, almost done with baseball for this year.

Once YED is over, I'll still watch to see the Astros hopefully win it all, but I've got this feeling that much like the Nationals, who came out of nowhere, got hot for two weeks and won a WS, the same thing is going to happen with the Phillies.

Must be nice to burp and fart along, squeak into the playoffs, get hot and steal a WS title.

What a concept.

That’s NY for you. You shouldn’t boo your own players, especially when he’s a FA and might go to SF.

Yeah, pretty harsh and a perfect example of 'what have you done for me lately'. NYY fans still remembering the team that was crushing everyone, prior to the All-Star game. NYY limped to the finish line, going 35-35 over the last 70 games, hardly an impressive entry to the playoffs. No reason to expect them to play better than they had been, but the fans don't see it that way, and Judge catches the fallout from their disappointment. NYY's, based off their second half of the season performance, had no realistic chance of beating the Astros. Only a minor miracle could/would/can save them and it looks like Judge and company are fresh out of miracles, but Judge is the LAST man that should be blamed. If it weren't for him, the NYY's may not have even won the East, despite the huge lead they had built up. The memories of fans are notoriously short and selective. -- Al

agreed...that's sad...the last Yankee they should be booing...131 RBI's in regular season...that's a huge number...to get booed at home must really be frustrating for him...as a free agent...he might remember that come contract time...

This is the beauty of sports; some guys rise to occasion in October when the lights are brightest, others rake vs some tomato can on the Royals or the A's in July.

It always amazes me how some guys shrink under pressure and others thrive under it.

I think they booed Mantle. My perception is that outside of the East Coast and maybe Chicago fans don’t boo players.

You have to tip your cap to the Astros; if they close out the Yankees, they will be going to their 4th WS in the past 6 years; in the other two years, they made it to the ALCS, losing to Tampa and Boston.

Just an incredible run, to be that excellent for that long in today's climate is quite an achievement.

Truth. Harper is just such an example of one who thrives. SD just made the mistake, again, of pitching to him with runners on and the game on the line. Sure wish Harp had stayed in DC. -- Al

Trent Grisham plays like Superman against Mets and Dodgers but looked awful in this series and makes one of the head scratching plays I’ve seen in awhile by bunting. I can’t believe he did that on his own, plus where was Hader. He should have been in the 8th. Some questionable decisions by SD. They deserved to lose.

The 87 win/were the last team to qualify for the playoffs/the lowest seed in the NL/got hot for two weeks Phillies are on to the World Series.

That's just all kinds of ****ing awesome.

A **** sundae with a cherry on top.

That’s all it takes. As the OTB (Off Track Betting) used to say “you’ve got to be in it to win it!”

It was a great week for me. Both the Rams and USC had a bye week, and the Dodgers are out of the playoffs. So I didn't watch a second of any sport. That trend will continue with the World Series. If I were in solitary confinement in a maximum-security prison, I would take a pass on watching a Phillies/Astros series unless they force the Astros to wear those rainbow uniforms from yesteryear.

George...Doug...you may not be alone...

Yankees fans throw in the towel with embarrassing Game 4 ticket prices

https://fansided.com/2022/10/23/yankees-game-4-ticket-prices/

That article is a bit deceiving because on the ticket agencies (I use Seat Geek), prices will vary, from section to section, seller to seller. I’d have to know where those seats are before criticizing the fans. On top of that, the games is on a Sunday night; people have to work the next day and if you drive, leaving the parking garages can take around an hour. In addition, they jack up the prices for everything once you get there.

I was contemplating going to Citi for a game but prices for not great seats were around $185. Prices did drop, for similar reasons, game on a Sunday, etc. It’s also a real pain to get there if you don’t live in the city. When I attended a game this year, it took about 2.5 hours to get home.

There are a lot of factors why prices dropped.

might be for "standing room seats" only...who knows?
also you didn't even mention possibility of rain which actually delayed the game...
and most importantly...don't believe everything you read on the Internet...

game over...
did not expect a sweep...
but glad to advance to WS...

I expected Houston to win but not in four. In the two games in NY, Yankees have themselves partially to blame as key fielding errors (especially today) hurt them. I wonder if that was Judge’s last at bat in a Yankee uniform. If it was it is pure irony that he made the last out in their season.

Happy YED everyone.......aside from Christmas, this is BY FAR my favorite holiday.

And a four game sweep to boot; later today, we'll sit under the YED tree, open our gifts, sing YED carols then have a nice sit down YED dinner with friends and family.

I know it's a bit old fashioned, but myself and my family have been doing this for a long time, so we're not the sort to break tradition, we've been able to celebrate this holiday 21 times in the past 22 years, we're all thrilled.

Can't wait; wishing all of you a Happy YED!!

Congrats to the Astros, they are a wagon; now move on to the WS and finish the job, make the clock strike midnight on the Phillies.

The Astros were the best team and they took care of business and get the WS. Phillies are hot, last team in and all that, so it's the predictable favorite against the upstart. It would seem that the Astros should overpower the Phillies and maybe they will but it is going to be interesting and the Phillies do have Schwarbs and Harper and a couple others in the 'red hot' zone. No LA, No NY in the series. The networks are probably crying, but it is a good matchup for baseball fans. No dog in the fight so I will say 'good luck' to both teams, while rooting for Harper to win and rooting for Dusty to finally get that WS title. -- Al

Al...I don't take the Phillies lightly...regardless of their regular season record...that's old news for this series...too many times I have seen the "underdog" pull off the upset...I think it will be a tough series and hope Houston's bat wake up...especially Yordan and Altuve...they were both anemic against the Mariners and Yankees...not sure how long you can survive on good pitching...
