Mlb 2023 (1 Viewer)

Today is the day I officially a have turned the page on the 2023 MLB season regarding the Red Sox; losing two out of three to the Nationals, that's it, enough is enough.

I wondered what happened to Jeter Downs and that other stiff who plays second base the Red Sox dumped; they landed on the Nationals, great, isn't that just swell.

And the latter tomato can hit a home run this series to boot.

The Patriots have my attention from here on out; adios 2023 MLB season, it really sucked this year, I'll tune back in come playoff time rooting for the Braves to win it all.

Two out of three to the Nationals; Mother of God.

Even though my team is doing terribly I still like watching the games and savoring the occasional victory (they’ve won 4 out of the last 6). I will turn the page when the season ends on October 1. I’ve been to one game this year and hope to go to a couple more.

This is a little gloat-y but Braves fans have endured decades of frustration. “Revenge is a dish best served cold”

I’m not sure how the Braves have endured frustration for decades as they were a very good team from the mid 90s until the middle 2010s when they wisely tore it down, suffered through pain for three or so years and rebuilt themselves to become the power they now are. Another title may be in the offing although watch out for LA as they are only four back of Atlanta for the NL’s best record.

Well, I was a Braves fan for roughly 30 years (70-90) when they were generally terrible. The last 30 years have been better. But they still have only 2 titles in franchise history. One during the strike shortened season 1995/6 I think, and then a couple of years ago. Lots of division titles but also lots of playoff losses and some painful World Series defeats, including to the d*** Yankees in 1999.

Braves possess the best record in MLB at the moment but there are no guarantees of titles. Otherwise no point in having playoffs. Dodgers last 10 are 10-0 so have been on a tear but that is unsustainable of course. (Partly due to MVP level play by former (and still beloved) Brave Freddy Freeman). At this point Braves SHOULD win the WS but a lot can changet and anything can happen after 162 game season. Be a real gut buster if they win 105 ish games and don’t take home the big trophy.

Same here... been a Braves fan for most of my life. I remember the days of Dale Murphy and Bob Horner. While in college some friends and I used to drive over sometimes and watch some games when these two were playing. I think outfield seats at the time were like $6. I can remember the day that Sid Bream slid in to home plate to beat the Pirates. Some friends and I were watching on TV and went nuts! Lots of memories over the years although we should have had more great memories than we've had.

Another Braves memory for me is the time that my sister was honored at the Braves game and we were there and got to meet a lot of the players, etc. Photo of her at home plate prior to the game with umpires and assistant coach Pat Corrales. Second photo of me, her, and Chipper Jones. That was a fun night.

True, 1970-90 was a lean period but things are cyclical although there were a couple of good moments during that period when Joe Torre was the manager and Murph was a heck of a player.

Well, Ohtani has been added to the long, long, list of those with an injured UCL, and probably now facing TJ surgery at some point. Mr. 2-way Superman is broken and it was completely predictable. Baseball needs to get back to the old ways of doing things, ie., teaching pitchers not to throw at 110% on every pitch. Learn to let up when it isn't a do or die situation. Way too many arm injuries and it is just getting worse. -- Al

Forgot to mention that Ohtani had TJ surgery in 2018, so it will be TJ #2, if needed. -- Al`

However, his UCL injury won’t diminish his FA value. He will probably stIll receive in the 500 M range. At this point his pitching is a bonus.

That's a big question, isn't it. Big risk for the signer. If TJ surgery, then he's done for 2024. Not sure he can still demand $500/600 million without the complete package. Gonna be interesting to follow this. -- Al

No, he will still get the contract without pitching. Judge got a big contact and he’s not a pitcher. Ohtani’s will top that. Not only can he hit but he’s a draw who brings customers to the park. He had TJ surgery before and that didn’t stop him from hitting.

Two games before the All-Star break, the Nats had hit bottom, 20 games under .500 and looking bad. They won the last 2 games before the break and came out of the break looking and playing like a different team. Since being 20 games under .500, they have gone 26-15 and have become a competitive, and somewhat dangerous team. They are 20-18 in 1-run games, and are actually 39-35 in close games, those decided by 3 or fewer runs. Like all teams, the amount of runs they score determines wins or losses. The Nats are a miserable 8-36 in games where they score 3 or fewer runs, but are a very respectable 52-33 in games where they score 4 or more runs. If the Nats can keep this run of good ball going, they actually have a realistic chance of finishing with 70-75 wins, a vast improvement over 2022's 55 win total and 2021's 65 wins. They are still a little short of being playoff caliber, they need starting pitching improvements (like everyone else), but they are trending up. Maybe by 2025 they will be back in the hunt... -- Al

Discovered another interesting Nat fact this AM. The Nats, as of end of games on 8/26, have the best record in the NL East since the All-Star break. Nats are 25-15 since the break, one win better than the Braves 24-15. Phils are 23-17, Mets 17-23, and Miami is 12-26. Surprised me. -- Al

Urias has been arrested on domestic violence charges in LA. That is a death sentence there. Bauer's career was ended based on allegations that proved false. LA King Voynov was exiled. It's a terrible crime that should be fully punished by law enforcement if guilty, but you could probably commit mass murder and get a lesser penalty from the LA professional sports organizations because of the politics.

Where's Trey Mancini? Did the Cubs let him go?
Mark
Yes, he got DFA'ed on August 2nd. Was very sorry to see that. He was the face of the O's for quite a while and was very popular in B-more. -- Al

I love the way the Steven Strasburg camp tried to make the Nat’s owners into villains by trying to make it seem like they were going to host a retirement night for him.

That is like a being angry at a bank for cancelling a party for its most prolific bank robber.

Not sure what's going on with this whole fiasco. Would have thought retirement would be relatively straight forward, but evidently not, especially when egos are involved. ^&confuse -- Al
