Mlb 2023 (2 Viewers)

Great day in B-more. After chasing the Rays all season, the O's finally caught them. After defeating LA in the last game of the series, and with Tampa losing again, the O's have a virtual tie for first in the AL East, actually a few percentage points ahead of Tampa. Now the O's go into Tampa for a huge 4 game series. Biggest series for the O's in years. How long will the O's hold first place? We shall see. Go O's!. -- Al
Wahoo! O's take game1 and now have 1st place all to themselves. Been 7 years, but worth the wait. -- Al

Ha ha- there you go Al! While they got hammered by the Dodgers in the game we saw, there was A LOT of positive energy there at the Yards so everyone is hyped for the O's this season- and rightfully so- they look great. They are my AL team so it was kind of hard to watch them play the Dodgers but no worries.

I did have fun in the 5th as I stood up between innings and shouted "A's home tickets- come get your A's tickets right here.....2 for 1 specials" The crowd was very amused.

What a difference a year or two makes. As of this AM, 7/22/23, The O's, tied for 1st place in the AL East, have the second best record in all of MLB at 59-38. They trail only Atlanta. Two seasons ago, the O's lost 110 games and were 33-64 at the 97 game mark. Last year they were 49-48 at this point. Still a long way to go this year but it has already been a successful year in terms of improvement. The playoffs would make this a banner season. Go O's! -- Al

The weekend series went about as well as it could have, with the O's winning 3 of 4 in Tampa, and leaving town with a 2 game lead. -- Al

One of the more intense games at Camden Yards last night with a pitcher's duel, Grayson for the O's looked awesome and Santander bottom of the 9th homerun was even better!! 1-0 series opener win!!!!

I see the Mets have waved the white flag. Traded their closer, Robinson, to the Marlins the other day, and now they are moving Max Scherzer to the Rangers. I'm guessing Verlander is next... -- Al

I've always felt that if you have a good farm system you won't have to trade your star players.

It was a treat to watch such a well pitched/played game, especially since the O's won in a walk-off. ^&grin -- Al

No idea what the Rangers are thinking on that trade unless they are factoring in the Mets picking up a huge chunk of his salary.

Either way I do not get it.

He pitched vs the Red Sox earlier in the week like a guy who is toast; I don't get it either.

ESPN reported that the Rangers are paying $22.5 mil while the Mets are picking up the other $35 million. -- Al

Mets are paying the remainder of his salary this year and half next year. The cash payments enabled them to acquire Ronald Acuña’s younger brother, a highly rated prospect.

Scherzer didn’t pitch terribly this year. He had a few bad games but had generally pitched better of late.

His Mets career will be remembered for two notable failures: pitching poorly against the Braves in the last weekend of the 22 season and then pitching poorly in the opening of the playoffs. In all fairness, so did Chris Bassitt, which is why they’re both probably not here anymore.

Verlander may be traded next.

24 looks like a rebuilding year, with hopes that they will be competitive in 25.

With the O's winning the finale of the season series with the NYY's yesterday, it gave the O's the season series 7 games to 6. It is the first time the O's have won the seson series from NY since 2016. Congratulations, O's. It is a little hard to believe that the O's don't see NYY's again this season and we are just now hitting August. Too bad as it is always fun to play The Bombers. -- Al

I am looking forward to seeing what trades are made in the next few hours, but no matter what additions teams make I can’t help but feel that the Braves are all but assured of winning the World Series this year.

Agreed that the Braves are the best team this year but you never know what team is going to get hot. Look at the Phillies last year.

In the playoff system, the key is to get in. After that, it doesn’t matter whether you were the best team during the regular season or got in by the skin of your teeth. In that respect MLB is becoming the NBA.

The only thing that’s certain is that nothing is certain. Braves were hot as fire going into the all star break. Since then, meh. That’s fine. No team can stay red hot all season. Winning the division conveys advantages but not certainties.

Yeah, regarding the Braves, they're going to take the division, certainly. They have too big of a lead, and none of the other teams in the division will catch them. World Series, though? Possible but not definite.

Prost!

The NBA pretends like it has parity but 90% of the time the No. 1 or No. 2 seed wins the championship.

Baseball can be less predictable considering starting pitching plays such a huge role in who wins.

Either way, I think Atlanta has the inside track to win it all this year.
