This is it in a nutshell; all comes down to money............more games means more money, more playoff teams means more playoff games, more money.

Money, money, money.

And you are correct, they will never change anything back to the way it used to be, not happening.

I remember when I was beginning to understand sports as I grew older and hockey struck me as comical; an 82 game season where at the time, 16 of the 21 teams made the playoffs.

They played a best of 3 opening round; so, you played 82 games to eliminate 5 teams, then 3 more to eliminate 8.

Right then and there I realized how stupid the whole process was, made less than zero sense.

I remember when I was young and saw 16 of 21 teams making the playoffs in Hockey was a total turn off for me.

I don't see them going to 130 game season. Besides the lost income baseball is a statistics oriented game and you take the excitement Aaron Judge caused last year getting 62 homers which would have been 51 in a 130 game season or Acuna this year getting 40+ homers and 70 stolen bases. Wouldn't happen in a 130 game season. Baseball is a game of traditions and fewer games would hurt baseball. I don't like the division system, haven't since they started it. But if you are going to have it, just 1 WC team. 4 teams, semi 3 game series and finals 5 game series. Only the WS should be 7 games.

It will never happen, nor should it for the reasons you pointed out.

Aside from the two division winners meeting for a chance to go to the WS, the second best system they came up with once they went to three divisions was ONE wild card team, period.

No time off, you jump right in on Tuesday or whatever, a five game series to determine the two teams that play for the championship series in each league, a seven game series, winners meet in the WS.

With three division winners and three WC teams, you are now rewarding mediocrity, you're not doing any favors to the top two teams in each league by giving them 5 days off, just a dumb idea driven by greed as Doug said.

The Phillies are doomed.{eek3}

Great game but a tough loss for Philly as they were just a few outs from a 2-0 lead. Harper was a tad too agressive that time but he would have tied the game had the ball fallen in. We'll see how they bounce back. -- Al

Spoken like a true fan :rolleyes2: Did you see Rutledge coming on here after the first game saying it’s all over?

Anytime you can get a split you have to be happy. Of course, you don’t like to lose a game where you were ahead 4-0 but four runs is not a huge lead. I knew that leaving the bases loaded in the first would come back to haunt them.

I was there and it was an absolutely glorious victory! The last play of the game was a defensive marvel that I may never see topped. IMO it’s up there with the Sid Bream slide to home plate game, which I also saw live.

The Dodgers now have AZ overconfident. Just where we want them. The ERA of the Dodgers starting pitchers is 40.54 after the first two games.

I saw this stat line regarding former Red Sox player Mookie Betts;

Last 9 games:
Dodgers 2-7 record
Mookie 3-34, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 4 BB, 8K, 4 R.

.088 / .180 / .118 / .297

That is.........................less than ideal.

He's 0 for the series so far; still has time to make some noise, but time is running out.

Oh well, better luck next year. O's Sp picked the wrong time to implode, which I was waiting for all season. Great year, though. Will be right back at it for a while, too, considering how young they are in key positions. Now, add a SP or two and we will get that WS title. -- Al

😢😢😢 so disappointed, lots of great moments this season and future looks bright but the hurt is for real tonight

Tough one Sammy and Al. I licked them to go to the World Series. Maybe next year.

Brad,
The Braves were flat the first game and half the second game but they are alive now so look out. I've lived and died with the Phillies since 1964.

The O's won 100 games this year. Be proud of them.
Mark

When you don’t advance past the first round, it’s difficult. The Mets won 101 last year but have nothing to show for it. It’s bittersweet unless you at least get to the league championship series.

The AL East is loaded, three teams made the playoffs, the other two have long traditions of winning, both will surely reload in the off season to be competitive.

The three teams in the playoffs went a combined 0-7.

So the Red Sox and Yankees both won as many playoff games as the Rays, Jays and O's did.

Shocking to be honest.

No more dog in this fight but a tip of the hat to Texas, they surely are on a roll at the right time, a Month or so ago I thought they were out of it, I was wrong!! Congrats to the Rangers they were definitely the better team in the division round.

Due to the demise of the O's, I now will follow and root on the Philly Nats. I would like to see Harper rewarded with a title. Love him or hate him, Harper competes to win with all he's got. Go Phils. -- Al

Bryce Harper is going off tonight. He is a steely eyed missile man at the plate. Standing there after that first blast and watching the ball sail into the upper deck and then giving the throat cutting sign as he crossed the plate. Then hitting another. That is Cool Hand Luke stuff. Note to Braves: maybe pitch around this guy.

There hasn't been a shelling of Atlanta like that since 18 and 64. They may need to install the iron dome over the outfield bleachers if that continues to protect the fans from incoming HR balls. Unfortunately, none of those runs carry over.
