Mlb 2023 (1 Viewer)

How about installing a chip in the ball so that there is no question? This is the year 2023. The technology would be simple. Same for football. No more refs guessing where the ball should be placed or a ten-minute review of every TD.

I'm in. šŸ˜€šŸ˜€

This is a ridiculously dumb idea. First how does the ball chip know how tall or short the batter is? Second, the ball chip needs to know where the plate is. So is there a camera embedded in or on the ball. Or some sort of radar detection system? Finally, those chips better be cheap, and sturdy. Balls get hit hard, and 50 plus are chunked away every game.

im guessing you donā€™t work in tech.

The Dodgers have won 100 games 10 times in their history but in those 10 seasons they have never won the World Series.

Interestingly the ALCS features 2 former SF Giant managers who have already won the World Series.

It will be great to see either one in the World Series again even though they will lose to the Phillies.

Wanted to get a pulse on the pitch call rule from you all, I had never seen it in play until I watched the Triole A Championship game a few weeks ago..each team has a certain number of pitches they can challenge, it was done quickly and a few umpire calls were overturned, I actually liked it , it didn't slow the game, and corrected a few calls that were certainly called wrong, any thoughts??,

Im a BIG FAN of the pitch clock. Great idea, long time coming.

I don't think there isn't a "tech" solution that can be implemented in baseball to provide "foolproof" pitch calls but I think it has to make sense from a cost/benefit standpoint. My son tells me the MLB goes through 160k baseballs a season. Chips may not be the answer but I do believe a technology alternative is there.

Do I think the MLB should implement it though? No, I like having an ump behind the plate, good bad or indifferent, it adds a wildcard element to the game. They are accurate to the upper 90% range so that is good enough imo.

We can drive cars and send people to the moon but not figure this out. It would be incredibly simple. We no longer have to climb the telephone pole to answer the phone like on Green Acres. There have been such technologies in tennis and other sports for years. Expensive? How much do they pay these players again?

Just a Heads up this is a BASEBALL thread.
I will delete anything not actually pertaining to the titled thread.

2 down 2 to go at Arlington . Wasnt expecting to win the first 2 in Houston . Maybe it is our year

"Atta Boy Harper" shirts are a popular item after the moonshots, stare down, and throat cutting signal from Harper. The Braves totally lost their composure in Philly. Couldn't handle the pressure. This is embarrassing to watch:

Orlando Arcia reached deep in the bag of tricks to respond to Phillies fans šŸ˜‚ #shorts - YouTube

Responding to fans is never worth it. Back in college I was at a Senators game in Washington in the CF bleachers. I forget who they were playing. A Senators fan was riding the other teamā€™s CF from the beginning of the game to the end. Not once did that player look at the fan or turn around or anything. He wouldnā€™t give the fan the satisfaction. It drove the fan crazy. Thatā€™s the way to do it.

Prost!

If you were to simply watch ESPN and the MLB Network youā€™d think that the Phillies were a down trodden, small market, low payroll, feel good story.

They have the second highest payroll in baseball, they should win the World Series.

The past two nights=the Craig Kimbrel experience ladies and gentlemen.

Quite a stat line last night; .02 innings pitched, 3 runs, 3 hits, 1 HR, yet another dumpster fire of a performance............he's sporting a 40.50 ERA.

Wowza.

I like Dusty Baker but even when he was managing the Giants I never liked his old school, unwritten rule, beanball approach.

Last night was an embarrassing farce, if you did not like Garciaā€™s bat flip etc., here is a new concept, strike him out next time he is up.

Unless of course you are so pathetic that you canā€™t.

I donā€™t have an issue with what he did. This is hardball, not softball. Thatā€™s the way the game used to be played. If you hit a HR against someone like Drysdale or Gibson you were going to go down. That was accepted. No clearing of the benches. You just dusted yourself off and took your base. Unfortunately, todayā€™s players are soft and canā€™t deal with it.

Brad:

As always I respect your point of view.

However, Iā€™d rather some at bat flipping idiot get struck out in his next at bat.

JMO, but if a player hits a Hr, and must show up the pitcher with some ridiculous display of dramatics ie., bat flip, or stare, then I think it should be expected that someone is going to pay, either the next batter or whoever gets elected as the pay-back pegion. Just be professional, hit Hr, trot the bases head down, and return to dugout without the world tour and drama. If you act like an ***, then someone should pay. -- Al

Sadly, we live in a ā€œlook at meā€ culture.

Al & Brad:

Great posts.

Gibson is my favorite pitcher of all time.

He an all-time great, he could hit a guy and then strike the next 3 batters out.

The guys who are doing it nowadays canā€™t do that.

-Jason.
