Mlb 2024 (2 Viewers)

I heard today's potential clincher is a bullpen game for the Dodgers?

So they don't have another starter to go to?

Baseball sure has changed.

And not for the better.
They have a ton of starting pitchers on the IL, which is why they have to do a bullpen game. The SP is their Achilles Heel.

There is not a lot of great starting pitching among the three remaining teams. The Yankees have Cole but their SP after that is ok but not terrific. If LA gets in (probable) you could see some really high scoring games, which MLB would love as long as they’re close. In a way the Mets LA series has been boring in that the games have been mostly one sided.

Not to understate winning a playoff series and heading to the WS, but this victory felt flat. It is like the Harlem Globetrotters beating the Washington Generals. I think everyone expected the Dodgers to win it and anything else would have been a soul crushing disappointment. No offense meant to the Mets. They made it somewhat competitive, but this Dodgers team is stacked. The Yankees are another deal. The WS will be like Godzilla vs King Kong. Likely breaking a record for most runs scored. Hard to believe it's been something like 40 years since they last met in the WS.

My third favorite Dodger of all time passed away yesterday (maybe second) RIP Fernando- you are missed!!! God I loved that guy when I was a kid- Eerie because I was thinking about buying a Fernando jersey just this past weekend in anticipation of the Series. Now he is gone- only 63 too :(

The hype around him when he pitched, was like a Hulk Hogan match with the Fernandomania and all that- he was so awesome!!!

I saw that Fernando Valenzuela has passed away. He was only 63. He had one of the most memorable seasons in Dodgers' history back in the 80s when he won rookie of the year and the Cy Young award.

Speaking of MLB, Netflix has a three part series about the 2004 ALCS called "The comeback"...........you don't have to be a Red Sox fan to watch it, just a fan of baseball, the show gives you a snapshot of what it was like to be a Red Sox fan prior to 2004.

The smugness and arrogance of MFY fans is...............something; wonder how that humble pie tasted in 2004.

Kharma really is a *****.

Joe Torre was classy as ever; some of the Red Sox players, specifically Schilling, look really rough 20 years later.

A great watch.

Took you up on the recommendation and the wife and I watched it last night- ha ha yeah Schilling did look rough- not Lenny Dykstra rough but rough all the same. I forgot all about Johnny Damon being on the Sox back then- my wife shot me a screen shot of the Yankees lineup in 2009 world series and he was there- I forgot all about that trade. Definately a great watch!

My predict is that the Dodgers-Yankees split the first two games (Dodgers take game one and NY game two), NY wins two of three at home and it comes back to LA at 2-3. Game six decides the series. If the Dodgers win, they take game seven.

My prediction is when the Dodgers come to NY to play the three games at Yankees Stadium, the temperatures will be in the 40's at night and all the Dodgers players will be dressed like they're going to the Antarctic with Admiral Byrd.................

Yes, I've seen that movie. It's supposed to be in the 60s and high 70s next week in NYC, though. Global warming has its upside!

It was an awesome watch.

I forgot how much drama there was with that 2004 between Nomar being a baby and pouting for most of the season until they traded him, Millar throwing him and Manny under the bus with his comments on ESPN, Manny being the moron that he is and missing a game because he was hanging out in the bar with Enrique Wilson and Ortiz not being happy early in the season.

At one point they were 12 games above 500 and management put the heat on Francona; with today's MLB and 40 teams getting into the playoffs, any management would be thrilled to be 12 games above 500.

Some of the comments were gold; they asked Theo "What were you thinking as the 8th inning unfolded in game 6" and he shot back "What the fvck are we doing!!" or Henry saying "Can we fire him now or do we have to wait until after the game?".................I CANNOT believe Grady left Pedro in there when you had Embry, Timlin and Williamson all locked and loaded, ready to go, UNEBELIEVABLY boneheaded managing right there.

Also did not know the Yankees had a microphone in the RS clubhouse; gee, the Yankees cheating, who knew.

I still can't believe they came back from down 0-3 to beat them and break the curse.

Back when I really, really cared about sports; now it's just mindless entertainment for me.

The Patriots are the worst team in the NFL, the Bruins are about to fire their coach and the RS management no longer care about winning like they did back when they bought the team.

It's the Celtics all the way, they have 100% of my sports attention for now.

It was an awesome watch.
My wife found one series- I dont think it's on Netflix- but nonetheless it is really good profiling the LSU athletes- Livvy Dunn, some boy on the BB team and Angel Reese and the effects of NIL money, social media and all of that- it is the wild west in the NCAA right now- I think it is good- the athletes should get paid but you can definately see how fans of these schools can get turned off by how much these kids hustle themselves to companies and that sort of thing.

I absolutely love any sports documentaries- they did one about the kid who organized the Michigan cheating scandal- that was just mind blowing.

That slam will go down in history- I remember where I was when Gibson hit his homer off Eck- I now have this memory as well- son just came back from college to watch the Series with my wife and I (he and I are Dodgers fans, wife is a diehard NYY fan). It was just a fantastic game- Stanton's BOMB, Freeman- El Toro's moment of silence and memorial- it was just fantastic!

Funny thing was at the start of the game I blurted out "Freeman is the new Steve Garvey"- Garvey was my favorite player as a boy but he did slip up- hopefully Freeman won't.

Still kind of scratching my head taking Cole out but ok- these metrics being what they are.

That was one for the ages but just one game. Aaron Judge looked awful. He is a strikeout machine but overdue to break out. He could change the series if he gets on track. That game felt more important to the Dodgers than Yanks. Just holding serve. A rare, good couple of days for us LA fans. The Rams, USC, Lakers, and Dodgers all win.

What a game, what a finish, just unbelievable, naturally they break out the Gibson footage.

Freeman crushed that ball, total no doubter.

Not sure how the Gashouse Gorillas come back from that nutpunch loss, love it that it was Freeman who crushed that ball.

Good for him.
Yankee fans just experienced what Mets fans have experienced for years: getting killed by FF.

Today is critical for NY. If they lose today — and Rodon is not the guy I want in a must win game — it could be a sweep or a five game series.

It’s not that they lost but how they did it. Boone should be fired — he makes Roberts look like a rocket scientist — but he won’t.

Agreed on all counts.

A classic nutpunch loss.

It's astounding to me how much a Yankees loss like that brings me so much joy, watching "The comeback" on Netflix reminded me how much I hate that team.

It's amazing Boone has lasted as long as he has; even more amazing that Roberts has lasted as long as he has, IMO he's a terrible manager, but if the Dodgers win a WS, they'll build a statue of him in front of the ballpark.

And thanks again Dave for that steal in game 4 of the 2004 ALCS; without that, no comeback and no WS win for the Red Sox.

One thing lost in all the hoopla over the home run; I have no doubt if that imbecile Verdugo did not fall into the stands making that catch doing his Captain Intangibles imitation which allowed both runners to move up and leaving first base open, instead of Betts getting a free pass, I'm sure he would have popped out to end the game vs having a guy like Freeman, who's so money, up instead.
