THE WINDS OF WAR---Seth McFarlane is developing a miniseries based on the Herman Wouk World War II novel, “I can’t think of a more exciting project with which to launch my creative partnership with UCP than Herman Wouk’s THE WINDS OF WAR, I’ve been a devoted fan of Wouk’s WWII epic for decades, and its depiction of small-scale human endurance in the face of large-scale global upheaval has never been more relevant than it is today. In my very first meeting with [UCP president] Dawn Olmstead, we connected over this project — I learned that she herself comes from a Naval family — and to bring it to fruition under her stewardship and that of her UCP team will be a perfect fit for all. FEAR STREET---Netflix acquired the movie trilogy based on the RL Stine books with a premiere in the summer of 2021.

BATWOMAN---Ruby Rose commented on leaving BATWOMAN, “Being the lead of a superhero show is tough. [Laughs] Being the lead in anything is tough. But I think, in that particular instance, it was a lot more difficult because I was still recovering from my surgery. I had my surgery and then 10 days later I went to work, which maybe wasn’t the best idea. Most people take about a month or three off before they return to work, so it was definitely made more difficult by that…I love my experience in [BATWOMAN]. I’m so grateful that we got to achieve everything that we did and I’m proud of everyone that worked on it. I’m proud of myself for working under sort of interesting circumstances, you know, with the recovery and all. I would definitely do [TV] again. I just think that it was also time for me to take a break to fully heal and then return.”

LEGO STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL---Disney+/LEGO holiday special is connected to the original 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special and is set after THE RISE OF SKYWALKER when Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Chewbacca and Rose Tico gather to celebrate Life Day. Rey and droid BB-8 embark on journey to a mysterious Jedi temple which leads to encounters with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. The premiere is November 17.

JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION---Jake Johnson commented on returning for DOMINION, “I was getting ready to go out and then this pandemic hit and so everything got pushed and the schedule got rearranged,” Johnson said. “And now we’re trying to figure it out because obviously I’m in STUMPTOWN and we’re going into Season 2 of that. So we’re figuring out the scheduling and how and if we can make it work. But Colin Trevorrow, the director, is a good friend, we’re old friends and we’ve been talking a lot and we’re trying to figure out how to do it.”
Johnson added, “At one point I pitched that he has like a huge pony tail now and he’s got like an army jacket and he’s kind of going through some PTSD of what he lived through. I wanted the 70s glasses and he’s always smoking a cigarette, but luckily Colin said no so we’ll see what happens (laughs). I was like, ‘Man I think he should be tatted up from the ankles to the ears, he saw a dinosaur attack!’”

47 RONIN---Universal Pictures sequel underway to the 2013 Keanu Reeves movie. The sequel will be set 300 years in the future in a cyberpunk world. Ron Yuang (MULAN) is the director.

COLLEGE REPUBLICANS---Logan Lerman and Asa Butterfield will star in this movie about the early days of Republican strategists Karl Rove and Lee Atwater.

MRS. MARCH---Elisabeth Moss will star in this movie based on the upcoming novel about a New York woman who goes ballistic when she suspects the despicable character in her husband's new novel is based on her.

THE CROWN---Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip in Seasons 5 and 6.

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER---creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have left the Netflix live-action series due to creative differences.

TRIVIA--Tom Selleck said he and author Tom Clancy (THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER) developed a MAGNUM PI movie, “Tom Clancy is a huge MAGNUM fan. In the early ‘90s, [Clancy had] done a couple of wildly successful movie adaptations of his books. We got together, and I went to Universal, and I said, ‘It’s time we could do a series of feature films.’ They were very interested, and I had Tom, who wanted to do the story, and I had this package put together, but Universal’s the only studio that could make it, and they went through three ownership changes in the ‘90s, and I think that was the real window for MAGNUM."
Selleck elaborated on the movie plot, “This movie, written by Tom Clancy, with the original cast, set in Hong Kong during the transfer of power to the Chinese, with North Koreans getting plutonium for a bomb. Tell me that wouldn’t have been a hit?”
Universal Pictures rejected the Selleck/Clancy movie in favor of a MAGNUM proposal from producer Brian Grazer which included rumors of George Clooney playing Magnum. However, even this movie never came to fruition.

BLAZING SADDLES---HBO Max has added a disclaimer about racism similar to the disclaimer on GONE WITH THE WIND. The disclaimer, which is over three minutes long, is by University of Chicago film scholar Jacqueline Stewart, who also provided the GONE WITH THE WIND disclaimer, “This movie is an overt and audacious spoof on classic Westerns. It’s as provocative today as it was when it premiered back in 1974....Those attitudes are espoused by characters who are portrayed here as explicitly small-minded, ignorant bigots. The real, and much more enlightened perspective, is provided by the main characters played by Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder."
Director/writer Mel Brooks said BLAZING SADDLES could not be made today because of political correctness.

UPPER WORLD---Daniel Kaluuya stars in this Netflix movie based on the young adult novel about a man who sees glimpses of the future and the past.

SPY---Idris Elba will star in this untitled Apple TV+ romantic action spy movie set in Africa.

LOVE HARD---Nina Dobrev, Jimmy O. Chang and Charles Melton star in this Netflix romantic comedy movie about a Los Angeles woman who uses a dating app to find a guy on the East coast. When she meets the guy, he's the wrong guy, but he promises to introduce her to the real date if she promises to be his girlfriend for the holidays.

TRIVIA---in the classic John Wayne Western RIO BRAVO, Rickey Nelson sings "Get Along Home, Cindy" accompanied by Dean Martin and Walter Brennan. All three would have top-five hits in the Billboard Top 100. Martin had "Everybody Loves Somebody", Nelson had "Travelin' Man", "Young World" and "Teen Age Idol" and Brennan had "Old Rivers".

THE LORD OF THE RINGS---a rumor claims Kaya Scodelario (CRAWL) has joined the Amazon prequel cast.

ARMY OF THE DEAD---Tig Notaro (STAR TREK: DISCOVERY) will replace Chris D'Elia in the Zack Snyder zombie movie after sexual harassment accusations were made against D'Elia. D'Elia's scenes have already been filmed, so Notaro will be inserted into the movie using CGI. The plot has a Las Vegas casino owner hiring a mercenary team to retrieve money left in a casino vault after a zombie plague hits the city.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD---George Miller speculated on what became of Furiosa after FURY ROAD, “There’s two ways to go. One is utopian, which is not an interesting story, really. I’ve somehow imagined that the first thing she would do in line with that, is go up and release the water… it wasn’t withheld… A New Deal, politically.
[Mythology historian Joseph] Campbell said that the usual story is that today’s hero becomes tomorrow’s tyrant. The hero is the agent of change. They basically relinquish self-interest in order for some common good. [Campbell] basically says … you love what you’ve built, or saved, too much. You become holdfast. You become the orthodoxy. You develop the dogma and basically then you have to protect it. That tends to be the rhythm of these things.”
He added, “I think she’s too smart to fall into that trap. She’s already seen it with the Immortan Joe. I believe he went through the same process. He was probably a heroic character in his own time.”

THE BOYS---Jensen Ackles (SUPERNATURAL) will play superhero Soldier Boy in Season 3.

AQUAMAN 2---James Wan said the sequel will have a greater emphasis on horror, “I would say yes. Just like the first movie had a touch of my horror sensibility in it, in regards to the Trench sequence, I would say there’ll be a little bit of that in this next one. I think it’s something that’s a big part of who I am, and it just naturally comes out in these kinds of films.”
He added, “And especially a movie like AQUAMAN, you know where the story takes place in these underwater worlds that can be very scary. So naturally, my love for the horror genre just means that I latch myself to these scenes and try to give them a little bit more of my scary sauce.”

CRISIS OF INFINITE EARTHS---Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy said fans are unhappy about how Batman was portrayed in the CW crossover, “The fans were not happy about that. They didn’t like seeing that version of Bruce Wayne. But for me it was fun, it was a lot of fun to sort of stretch my acting chops a little bit. They didn’t tell me anything about the Batman.
They just said he was the Batman in the future, an old Bruce Wayne. I said, ‘You mean like in Batman Beyond old Bruce Wayne?’ They said, ‘No, he’s not 80. But he’s older and he’s in bad shape.’
They’re so guarded with their scripts, the studios, they don’t give them out. So they didn’t give me anything. I got the script basically when I was about to get on a plane to fly to Vancouver to do the show, I hadn’t seen anything.
I said yes because I was so excited to do something on camera again [after] 25 years… I didn’t know that was going to happen. So it was full of surprises. I didn’t know I was going to try and kill Supergirl. He was dark. He was dark.”

DUNE---Kyle McLachlan, star of the original 1984 movie, said the novel should have been made as a movie series, tv series or miniseries, "I would lobby for three or more films, because it has that kind of potential to really open up. In my imagination, I always thought it would be great to approach it like a GAME OF THRONES model, where you have seasons, or at least a 10-part series, or a 12-part series. You could really go from beginning to end. There’s a mysticism about it [the novel] that is difficult to capture on film. That, combined with a straight-ahead story, and characters that are really well-created. They’re full people, and you want to spend time with each one of them. And that eats up your film time. It’s a real puzzle. It’s just so many elements that you have to bring together."

GAME OF THRONES---Charles Dance was killed off in Season 5, but he continued to watch the show and was disappointed, like many fans, at how it ended, "I mean, I saw it. I continue to watch the whole series even after I'd been killed off in the lavatory. Because I just thought it's a fantastic television show, you know? I was very lucky to be part of it. I loved it; there were storylines [where] I wanted to know what was going to happen to these people! I know that the finale satisfied a lot of people. It also disappointed a lot of people, and I'm afraid I am in the latter camp."

HEIST---Daniel Dae Kim and Randall Park will star in this untitled Amazon movie about friends at a high school reunion who plan a major heist.

THE GHOST IN THE MACHINE---Issa Rae will star in this Netflix movie based on the Tanya Smith memoir about a black woman who went on to “become one of the single biggest threats to the entire United States banking system” when she set up a sophisticated wire fraud scheme.

WARRIOR NUN---Netflix renewed the series for Season 2.

SPIDER-WOMAN---Olivia Wilde will direct and co-write a Sony Pictures movie based on a superhero from Sony's Marvel Universe which is also known as SPUMC. Rumors claim the movie will focus on Spider-Woman.

GLADIATOR---Russell Crowe commented on a early sequel idea from producer Doug Wick," I haven't talked to Doug in a long, long time. Last time I talked to Doug, he said he had this great idea where Maximus gets carried from the stadium and they pull back this big rock and he gets put into this cave and then the rock closes over and he's anointed with oils. And then the rock opens up and he comes out. And I said, ‘Doug, I don't think we have the rights to that story.’ But that was a long, long time ago and I don't think he appreciated my sense of humor."
Crowe's agent once had a sequel idea in which Maximus is still alive after he faked his death in the original movie's Coliseum scene.

THE EXORCIST---a rumor that Morgan Creek Entertainment has a “planned theatrical reboot of The Exorcist in the works for 2021” led William Friedkin to tweet, “I have nothing to do with an Exorcist reboot and wouldn’t watch it if there was one.”

STAR WARS---Brie Larson commented on unsuccessfully auditioning for all the new STAR WARS movies, "I didn’t get GOSSIP GIRL, and I’m really glad. I auditioned for HUNGER GAMES and I didn’t get it. I auditioned for TOMORROWLAND and I didn’t get it. I auditioned for all of the new STAR WARS movies and I didn’t get it. I don’t even know why I’m saying I didn’t get it. Like, you know I didn’t."

PINOCCHIO---the voice cast for the Guillermo del Toro animated movie includes Ewan McGregor, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, Ron Perlman and Finn Wolfhard.

IQ 83---director Charlie Kaufman said he is developing an HBO miniseries based on the novel, “I’m developing this thing for HBO, which is a limited series about a virus that causes stupidity. And it’s based on a screenplay I wrote, which is based on a novel called IQ 83.
And I’m actually developing it for them, so it’s possible that it’s going to happen, [but] I don’t know that it’s going to happen. But I’m very interested in it because of the circumstances in which we live. I’m very interested in exploring the notion of that, and treating it as kind of a metaphor.”

STRANGER THINGS---co-creator Ross Duffer said Season 4 will not be the last season, “Season 4 won’t be the end. We know what the end is, and we know when it is. [The coronavirus pandemic] has given us time to look ahead, figure out what is best for the show. Starting to fill that out gave us a better idea of how long we need to tell that story.”

TED LASSO---Apple TV+ renewed the series for Season 2.

TRIVIA---character actors John Ratzenberger (CHEERS) and Kenneth Colley appeared in two special effects-laden movies: STAR WARS: EPISODE V-THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and Clint Eastwood's FIREFOX.
In THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, Ratzenberger plays Maj. Derlin, and Colley plays Adm. Piett. In FIREFOX, Ratzenberger plays Chief Peck, who refuels Eastwood's MiG-31 Firefox from a submarine, and Colley plays Soviet Col. Kontarsky, who tries to prevent Eastwood from stealing the Firefox.

INDIANA JONES---archaeologist Alexandre Jones commented on the Indiana Jones movies and the scene in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK where he substitutes a bag for an artifact, "Depending on the site, different cultures, and the people who have created what was at that time a location have created different mechanisms that they’ve put in place in order to preserve it. So if we think about China, the Emperor when he built his tomb he actually built thousands of soldiers. And the idea was that in death these soldiers would actually protect him from anybody trying to come and desecrate or disturb this tomb. So you do see things historically that have been done, but nothing to the extent we see in this film."
She added, "So while this is a fun movie and it looks awesome and amazing, and all of us would like to have adventures like this, this film is actually not rooted in any fact. This is not what would take place in an archaeological site today. What’s actually taking place is unethical and something that none of us would engage in."

THE BRUTALIST---Joel Edgerton, Marion Cotillard, Mark Rylance, Vanessa Kirby and Sebastian Stan star in this movie about a talented architect and his wife who flee post-World War II Europe for America where a wealthy, mysterious client changes their lives forever.

FIVE DAYS AT MEMORIAL---Apple TV+ miniseries based on the book about the New Orleans hospital that lost electricity during Hurricane Katrina which led to a doctor and two nurses being charged with second degree murder after they euthanized many patients.

THE MATRIX 4---Hugo Weaving commented on not returning for the sequel because of a schedule problem with him appearing in London's National Theatre, "Lana Wachowski had rung me at the beginning of last year. We’ve worked together five times, the Wachowski’s and I on three MATRIX films, V FOR VENDETTA and CLOUD ATLAS. I’ve hung out with them all over the world for many, many years. So, yes, Lana was very keen for me to be involved in THE MATRIX. There was a reading with Keanu, Carrie and myself and a few others from the old family.”
He added, “I loved a lot of it and wasn’t sure about other bits. Ultimately, we talked about it and when the offer came through to do it for Warner’s I said yes the next day and I talked to Lana.
I thought we could have done my scenes in May, June and July; and we talked about money and we talked about — they were negotiating. And we were all pretty much sorted and agreed on dates and it was all fine, but then Lana decided she didn’t think it was going to work. So, she pulled the plug on the negotiations. That’s where it ended up. She basically didn’t feel that my commitment to the National Theatre was going to fit in with the dates that she had in mind for me.”

SEX TRAFFICKING---Marisol Nichols and Sony Pictures Television are developing a tv series based on her undercover work against sex trafficking and child abuse after she was recruited by the FBI in 2012.

TRIVIA---In the FANTASTIC VOYAGE scene where Raquel Welch was attacked and covered by deadly antibodies, director Richard Fleischer told the male stars to remove whatever antibodies they chose to. The four actors, Stephen Boyd, Donald Pleasence, Arthur Kennedy and William Redfield, politely did not remove the antibodies attached to Welch's breasts. Fleischer said this resulted in a "Las Vegas showgirl" effect, so he told the actors to remove antibodies accordingly, and all four grabbed her antibody-covered breasts. Fleischer finally solved the problem by instructing each actor on what specific antibody they had to remove from Welch's body.
