TRIVIA--Jan Smithers, best known for playing Bailey Quarters on WKRP IN CINCINNATI, became a model and actress after being photographed for the cover of the March 21, 1966 issue of NEWSWEEK. SHERLOCK HOLMES---Robert Downey Jr. thinks the SHERLOCK HOLMES movies could become a universe similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “At this point, we really feel that there is not a mystery-verse built out anywhere, and Conan Doyle is the definitive voice in that arena, I think, to this day. So to me, why do a third movie if you’re not going to be able to spin off into some real gems of diversity and other times and elements?”
He added, “We think there’s an opportunity to build it out more. Spin-off characters from a third movie, to see what’s going on in the television landscape, to see what Warner Media is starting to build out, things with HBO and HBO Max.”

TRIVIA---Bill Paxton's audition for the role of Pvt. Hudson in ALIENS consisted of him pretending a cardboard tube was his rifle and jumping over the casting director's furniture. Paxton felt the audition did not go well, so he entered in negotiations to appear in POLICE ACADEMY 2 when James Cameron offered him the Pvt. Hudson role at half the salary of POLICE ACADEMY 2. Paxton wisely accepted ALIENS and explained, "...one thing I learned very early on is that you take the jobs that you can get with the good directors. I've never really been after the money. I probably could've made more money out here if I was really all about the money, but I actually got into this field in a vocational way. I loved filmmaking. TRIVIA---in THE NATURAL, baseball player Roy Hobbs (Robert Redford) was summoned to the hotel room of Harriet Bird (Barbara Hershey), who then shot Hobbs and then committed suicide by leaping out of the hotel window. Bird was based on Ruth Ann Steinhagen, a "baseball Annie"---groupies who stalked baseball stars. In 1949, Steinhagen used a written note to invite Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Eddie Waitkus to her hotel room. According to Waitkus, Steinhagen said, "If I can't have you, nobody else can." and then shot him below the heart with a .22 rifle. Waitkus, like Roy Hobbs, survived the shooting and had his career temporarily sidetracked. Steinhagen spent three years in Kankakee State Hospital undergoing psychiatric treatment where she told her doctors, "I used to go to all the ball games to watch him. We used to wait for them to come out of the clubhouse after the game, and all the time I was watching I was building in my mind that idea of killing him." Steinhagen died after a fall in her home in 2012.

In GOLDGINGER, model/actress/artist Margaret Nolan played the gold-painted Bond Girl in the opening credits and Dink, 007's masseuse.

Nolan's gold-painted image was used for GOLDFINGER's poster and soundtrack---not Shirley Eaton, who played gold-painted Jill Masterson in the movie.

THE BOYS---showrunner Eric Kripke said Love Sausage will return in Season 3.

DR. DEATH---Jamie Dornan has departed the Peacock miniseries due to a schedule problem and was replaced by Joshua Jackson. The miniseries is about Dallas neurosurgeon Dr. Christopher Duntsch who killed or maimed 33 patients.

FAKE!---Kate Winslet will star in this movie based on the book the One Coin Ponzi scheme.

THE COLDEST GUN---Chinese movie underway about Chinese sniper Zhang Taofang who supposedly killed 214 US soldiers during the Korean War without a rifle scope in only 32 days. Zhang Yimou (RAISE THE RED LANTERN) is the director.

TRIVIA---the Universal Pictures design department created two concepts for the alien in IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE. The losing alien concept was resurrected as the Metaluna Mutant in THIS ISLAND EARTH. Russell Johnson (GILLIGAN'S ISLAND) co-starred in both movies. Jack Arnold directed IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE and co-directed THIS ISLAND EARTH.

REAGAN---Ronald Reagan biomovie underway in which Reagan is seen through the eyes of a KGB agent. Dennis Quaid will play Reagan, Penelope Ann Miller will play Nancy Reagan, Jon Voight will play the KGB agent and Robert Davi will play Leonid Brezhnev.

CHIPPENDALES---Dev Patel will star in this untitled biomovie about Steve Banerjee, co-founder of the Chippendales male strip clubs which led to murders, including Playboy centerfold Dorothy Stratten, and suicides. Craig Gillespie (I, TONYA) is the director.

TOTO: THE DOG-GONE AMAZING STORY OF THE WIZARD OF OZ---movie musical underway based on the children's book. Alex Timbers is the director.

SLAY---CW tv series underway about a black teenager who inherited supernatural powers from his African mother.

MAID---Margaret Qualley; her mother, Andie McDowell, and Billy Burke will star in the Netflix tv series based on the Stephanie Land memoir.

TRIVIA---in the original THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN based on the Michael Crichton novel, the scene about detonating a nuclear bomb to destroy the alien organism-infected town of Piedmont, New Mexico has a Cabinet member saying he is against it, "It's against the Moscow treaty of 1953 to fire thermonuclear weapons above ground." Ironically, the Cabinet member was played by Glenn Langan, best known for playing Lt. Col. Glenn Manning, who grew into a rampaging 60-foot giant after he was accidentally exposed to radiation after an atomic bomb test in THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN.

KITBAG---Joaquin Phoenix will play Napoleon Bonaparte in this Ridley Scott/20th Century biomovie which will focus on his famous battles and the tumultuous relationship with his wife, Josephine. The title is from the saying, "There is a general's staff hidden in every soldier's kitbag."

DEXTER---Michael C. Hall is returning for a Showtime ten-part miniseries sequel to the tv series. NO other details were released.

DON'T LOOK UP---Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Timothee Chalamet and Matthew Perry will co-star with Jennifer Lawrence in this Adam McKay movie about two astronomers who must warn mankind that an asteroid will collide with Earth.

MOONFALL---Stanley Tucci and John Bradley will co-star with Patrick Wilson and Halle Berry in this Roland Emmerich sci fi movie in which a disgraced astronaut leads a team to prevent the Moon from striking the Earth.

THE LEGO STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL---Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels and Kelly Marie Tran have joined the voice cast of the Disney+ animated holiday special.

THE KOMINSKY METHOD---Kathleen Turner will co-star with Michael Douglas as Sandy Kominsky's ex-wife in Season 3 which will be the last season.

TRIVIA---Robert Wagner and Susan Blakely co-starred in two disaster movies; THE TOWERING INFERNO and THE CONCORDE...AIRPORT '79.

Wagner and Blakely co-starred in THE TOWERING INFERNO which was the highest-grossing movie of 1974 and received eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and won three.

THE MANDALORIAN---Jon Favreau commented on a possible Mandalorian movie, “We’re definitely open to it, and excited to see where the story leads us and have that flexibility – because there’s no rulebook now. FIRST KILL---Netflix teenage lesbian vampire tv series is underway based on the short story. The synopsis is, “When it’s time for teenage vampire Juliette to make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family, she sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope. But much to Juliette’s surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter, from a family of celebrated slayers. THE PRESIDENT IS MISSING---Showtime has cancelled plans for a tv series based on the novel by James Patterson and Bill Clinton. The pilot starred David Oyelowo and Michael Rooker.

STRANGERS---Netflix movie underway based on the novel and 1951 Alfred Hitchcock movie. The Netflix movie has two teenage girls who meet on a train and agree to eliminate each other's bullies.

THE OUTSIDER---HBO renewed the series for Season 2.

BLACK MONDAY---Showtime renewed the series Season 3.

THE LAST O.G.---TBS renewed the series for Season 4.

TRIVIA---in HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, 4' 2" dwarf actor Billy Curtis played Mordecai. Curtis said he developed a stiff neck working with 6' 4" Clint Eastwood, but it was worth it because it was the best role he ever played.

THE LAST STARFIGHTER---Jonathan Betuel, who co-wrote the original 1984 sci fi movie, said he and co-writer Gary Whitta (ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY) are working on a sequel, "It looks like we’ll be making the deal to get it going. Gary’s a gifted collaborator, we’ll be writing the script together but it’s taken a long time. I had to go through a process that took years to recapture the rights, but that was recently completed and although nothing is ever clear sailing, it looks like we have a really good opportunity now. So I’m really looking forward to taking it up.”
He added, “The leads are now parents and time has passed. It’s not a remake, it’s going to continue the story. What’s changed is time itself, certainly as the video world and the alien world have continued to tick away. It’s not a time capsule of the ’80s by any means, we’re taking it to the next level. Passing the torch…or the joystick.”

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY---CBS All Access renewed the series for Season 4. Also, Alex Kurtzman said the plan is to have STAR TREK tv shows through 2027, “Heather Kaden and Aaron Baiers, who work with me at [production company] Secret Hideout – we literally just got off a call with the network mapping out with us through 2027. CALICO JOE---movie underway based on the John Grisham baseball novel. George Clooney is the producer and might direct the movie.

THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.---Armie Hammer talked about a possible sequel to the movie that also starred Henry Cavill, If someone was like, ‘Hey, do you want to do a sequel?’ I would be like, ‘Hell yeah, let’s go!’ … I hear it. I get people being like, ‘Are you going to do a sequel?’ The answer is, ‘I hope so! I’d love to.’
At one point, Lionel Wigram, who was the producer and also who wrote the original script, he and I talked about ideas and he told me an idea that he had for it, and I was like, ‘That sounds great! Whatever your idea [is], let’s just do it!’ I don’t know, man. Keep pushing. Hopefully one day we can do it. I’d love to do it.”
