DUNE---Timothee Chalamet commented on the remake movie, “That part of the Wadi Rum is so awe-inspiring, you might as well be getting chased by that cliff in the background. It wasn’t a green-screen or anything. That’s one of the most thrilling parts of the book and the movie. We had the sketches. That was a lesson for me. On a CALL ME BY YOUR NAME or BEAUTIFUL BOY it can be counterintuitive to see the storyboards because then maybe you limit yourself based on a camera angle or whatever. It’s the opposite [here] because, for a sequence with the sandworm chasing you, I could never imagine that.”

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER---John Boyega defended JJ Abrams returning for the sequel, "Everybody needs to leave my boy alone. He wasn’t even supposed to come back and try to save your *****."

MULAN---the remake movie will be free to Disney+ subscribers in December.

TRIVIA---in the classic parody movie AIRPLANE!, basketball star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played co-pilot roger Murdock. Co-writer/director Jerry Zucker explained why Abdul-Jabbar's salary was $35,000, "'When we offered the role to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, I think we offered him $30,000, and then the agent asked for $35,000 because that’s how much this rug cost that Kareem wanted to buy. It was an oriental rug—an art piece, not one to walk on...so our initial reaction was, "That’s got to be the best line we’ve ever heard from an agent." It was like, "Boy, this guy’s really creative!" But then a couple of weeks later, there’s an article in TIME with a picture of Kareem standing in front of the oriental rug that he’d bought for $35,000 after we’d paid him."'

THE GODFATHER: PART III---a 4K restored version of the sequel will be released in a limited theatrical run and on home video. Francis Ford Coppola said the restoration is, “an acknowledgment of Mario’s [Puzo] and my preferred title and our original intentions for what became ‘The Godfather: Part III’. For this version of the finale, I created a new beginning and ending, and rearranged some scenes, shots, and music cues. With these changes and the restored footage and sound, to me, it is a more appropriate conclusion to ‘The Godfather’ and ‘The Godfather: Part II’ and I’m thankful to Jim Gianopulos and Paramount for allowing me to revisit it.”

THE DARK TOWER---director Mike Flanagan said he wants to direct a movie based on the Stephen King novels, "I’ve got the answer that most Stephen King fans are going to have. I mean, talk about an adaptation challenge… So many very talented people have poured so much time and heart and soul and blood, sweat, and tears trying to crack that."

RENO 911!---Quibi renewed the series for Season 2.

TRIVIA---in STAR TREK: GENERATIONS, Alan Ruck played Capt. John Harriman, the commander of the starship USS Enterprise-B on its maiden voyage. Ruck said producer Rick Berman gave him Harriman's backstory on how the incompetent Harriman was given command of the Enterprise-B, "'I talked to Rick Berman... and he said, “Yeah, we figured that Harriman came from a wealthy, politically connected family, and they sort of bought you this job as a stepping stone into a political career.” That was the backstory, which you never heard. All you knew was that there was this young, inexperienced guy who was given the Enterprise-B, which was ill-equipped. And it wasn’t his fault."'

DEVOTION-FOTOR.jpg

ALIEN---Ridley Scott said he hopes to film at least one more ALIEN movie, which will mostly ignore the previous two movies, PROMETHEUS and COVENANT, “That’s in process. We went down a route to try and reinvent the wheel with ‘Prometheus’ and ‘Covenant’. Whether or not we go directly back to that is doubtful because ‘Prometheus’ woke it up very well. But you know, you’re asking fundamental questions like, ‘Has the Alien himself, the facehugger, the chestburster, have they all run out of steam? Do you have to rethink the whole bloody thing and simply use the word to franchise?’ That’s always the fundamental question.”

ALIEN-FOTOR.jpg

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY---Jason Isaacs commented on if his character, Captain Lorca, might return, “Taking the fifth. The whole point of having a story told to you is that you don’t know what’s in the story. It’s like asking when someone is going to tell you a joke: ‘Give me the punchline and I’ll make my mind up'... if they do bring back Lorca, or anyone else, it’ll never be token.”

MOTHER/ANDROID---Chloe Grace Moretz will star in this sci fi movie about an expecting couple who flee after an android uprising causes a war.

THE MANDALORIAN---new photos released from Season 2. Also, Jon Favreau commented on Season 2 which premiers on October 30, “The new season is about introducing a larger story in the world. The stories become less isolated, yet each episode has its own flavor, and hopefully we’re bringing a lot more scope to the show. Everything gets bigger, the stakes get higher, but also the personal story between the Child and the Mandalorian develops in a way I think people will enjoy.
As we introduce other characters, there are opportunities to follow different storylines. The world was really captivated by Game of Thrones and how that evolved as the characters followed different storylines – that’s very appealing to me as an audience member.”
Also, Giancarlo Esposito commented on a battle scene between Moff Gideon and The Mandalorian, “I’ll be going toe-to-toe with Mando. It’s an iconic battle. I want to disarm him mentally as well. Who knows? Maybe there’s an opportunity to get him to fight some battles for me. You may think I’m a villain, but I’m trying to harness some energy and some powers for a path that could be best for all. You’ll get to see him be somewhat diplomatic and more of a manipulator.”

Among non-British actors, Karl Urban was tops at 96.7% followed by Chris Evans (93.9%) and Will Smith (92.2%).
Among female actors, Gina Carano was tops at 97.3% followed by Katee Sackhoff (94.4%) and Angelina Jolie (94.2%).

THE POSTMAN---Kevin Costner commented on his 1997 post-apocalyptic movie, “You know, listen, a movie is what it is when it comes out, and it has a chance to be revisited. I was always kind of proud of it. I thought I probably made a mistake not starting the movie off saying, ‘Once upon a time…’ Because it’s kind of like a fairy tale: ‘Once upon a time, when things got really rotten, the only thing that could stand the test of time was the Post Office. The only thing that people could count on.’ I didn’t say that and I probably should’ve, because it is like a fairy tale that you’d read to your children at night. That’s how I did the movie.
It deals with the nature of fame, you know what I mean? It’s a very subtle thing. I think POSTMAN actually is kind of a very funny movie, when you watch it. There’s humor wrapped all the way through it. Just dealing a little bit with the nature of fame, and dealing with somebody who’s famous, and him saying, ‘No, you’re famous.’ That’s all the movie was trying to do.”

CAPTAIN AMERICA---Brie Larson said she originally did no want the starring role in the Marvel movie," I remember getting a call when I was shooting Kong. And I remember they called and they said, 'Marvel is interested in you playing Captain Marvel.’ And I was like, 'Oh I can't do that, I have too much anxiety. That's too much for me, I don't think I can handle that,' and I was like, 'So tell them no.' And my team was like, 'Okay for sure.' I think a couple months later they were like, 'Hey [Marvel] called again, are you sure?' and I was like, 'Yeah, I'm too much of an introvert. That’s way too much of a think for me.’ It was beyond my comprehension. Like, no."

THE VENTURE BROS.---Adult Swim cancelled the series.

DOC MARTIN---ITV announced 2021's Season 10 will be the last season.

Gimpel also appeared in other STAR TREK episodes, “I also went back and played the crew members, but you couldn’t find me half the time, because the ship was always getting tossed around, so we would go flying ourselves against the windows and walls, and fall down a lot [laughing]. Those were my STAR TREK adventures."
Gimpel also appeared as Bill Mumy's stunt double in the original LOST IN SPACE. Her other stunt work included THE TOWERING INFERNO, AIRPLANE!, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, THE BIONIC WOMAN, THE GOONIES, NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION, FEAR THE WALKING DEAD and others.

And I think that these movies are made for their times. My own Scarface will arrive 40 years after the previous one. I think the important thing about these movies is not the fact that they’re lush and fundamental like Brian De Palma’s one. The important thing is knowing that Tony Montana is an archetypal character. The important things are A. It has to be well done, the script has to be great – and it is. B. Our Tony Montana has to be current. I don’t want to imitate anything. C. This movie has to be shocking. I told you about SUSPIRIA and I kept the promise to you then. I think I will surprise you with this movie too. Brian De Palma’s movie was Rated R, so I want a big R on my movie too."

So it’s going to be about the evolution of Richard Jones to Dick Jones, the story of OCP and how the world moves into the future, how the corporate world behaves.”

DUNE---Denis Villeneuve commented on the remake movie's sandworm, "I think that as soon as you say, 'okay, let’s make DUNE,' you go back home and the first thing you ask is, 'okay, what about the worm?' It’s a fantastic central figure of Dune’s story, that massive creature that lives in the deep desert, so when we were creating the worm I tried to create a lifeform that you will totally believe can go and survive in this land. So of course it has to have some prehistoric quality to it, because it’s living in the most rough environment. It was a lot of dreaming. We took our time with it. I deeply love the worm we came up with. It was important for me to understand that this huge creature has a soul, to understand that it is revered as a god-like figure."

STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS---the DISCOVERY spinoff series will focus on Captain Christopher Pike and Number One. Rebecca Romijn said STRANGE NEW WORLDS will reveal more about Number One, "Well, like 'The Cage' being such an old pilot, the writers have this very unique opportunity where they've had this character that's existed since the beginning of the canon, and she's never been written. I can't wait to find out how vast her skill set is. What are the arrows in her quiver? My number one question is, 'What's her backstory?' And I had a delightful meeting with the writers' room a couple of months ago, and they floated an idea for Number One's backstory that I'm not going to share right now because it blew my mind when they said it. But that's all I can say."

NETFLIX---co-ceo Reed Hastings commented on when he tried to sell Netflix to Blockbuster for $50 million in 2000, “Well, now I say thank God that they didn't want to go ahead [with the deal]. SPIDER-WOMAN---Olivia Wilde would not name what Marvel superhero her upcoming Sony Pictures movie will be about, but sources claim it is Spider-Woman, “All I can say is that this is by far the most exciting thing that’s happened to me because not only do I get to tell a story that…. listen to me, trying to avoid Kevin Feige’s pellet gun. We are seeing this incredible influx of female directors and storytellers getting to take hold of this genre, this super hero space, and infuse it with their own perspective. Not only do I get to tell the story as a director but I get to develop the story and that was what made it so incredible for me."

STAR WARS: EPISODE I--THE PHANTOM MENACE---Liam Neeson defended co-star Ahmed Best, whose character, Jar Jar Binks, is hated by many fans, "It really hurt his career. And I have to say when I was making that film… he was probably one of the funniest guys and talented guys I had ever worked with. I remember calling my old ex-agent at ICM and said, 'I think I just worked with the new Eddie Murphy.' I still believe that. Truly, he had all of his in stitches — including George Lucas. But I liked the movie."

STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS---Wil Wheaton said he wants to return as Wesley Crusher in the animated series, "I would do the show in a heartbeat! I’m a massive fan. Who says “no” to STAR TREK.? Who says, “No thank you. I don’t want to do STAR TREK?” Who says that? A dumb person. Yeah, of course, I would do it in a heartbeat. And honestly, I feel like animation is probably where Wesley could actually exist in his most faithful canonical form right now... In my headcanon, Wesley Crusher is a Time Lord. JAMES BOND---a rumor claims Tom Hardy was offered the 007 role in June and the announcement will be made in November for the tentative NO TIME TO DIE premiere or early 2021. You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one”.
However, one British newspaper columnist doubted the credibility of the rumor which originated on, "...an unsourced post on a Star Trek blog that hardly anyone has heard of."

SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY---Alden Ehrenreich said the news media was a factor in the movie being a disappointment, “[SOLO] didn’t do as well as other STAR WARS movies, but it still did well for a movie. And so it was kind of this medium thing. But that’s not newsworthy. Even at high-level journalism, there’s an intense pressure, sometimes, it feels like, to [either] catastrophize or celebrate. And I think that’s really f—ing dangerous, especially when it pertains to the stuff that really matters, like the state of the world.
An article headline that says 'things are complicated, and there are good sides and bad sides' isn’t getting the emotional response. And I just think we really have to take a step back, and give a lot more thought to the way our emotions are being run by the stories we’re getting inundated with.” SOLO made $393 million versus its almost $300 million production cost.

OUTER SPACE---there may be additional evidence that Tom Cruise and writer/director Doug Liman will work with Elon Musk's SpaceX and NASA to film a movie in outer space. Space Shuttle Almanac obtained the official manifest for the SpaceX Dragon Axiom flight to the International Space Station in October, 2021. Both Cruise and Liman are confirmed to be passengers with astronaut Cdr. Michael Lopez-Alegria as the pilot.
The Cruise/Liman movie might be related to LUNA PARK, a movie about renegade space workers who go to the Moon to steal an energy source that was reported in 2015 to be under development by Liman with Cruise interested in it. There has not been any news about LUNA PARK since then.

"So its confirmed that @CommanderMLA is flying the @Axiom_Space @SpaceX #CrewDragon tourist mission with Director @DougLiman & Tom Cruise. One seat still to be filled. They are to launch in October, 2021."

Q actor John De Lancie said, "Yeah. I have no idea what the story is there." De Lancie added if Q was in the movies, he wanted to explore the Q Continuum, "I actually—which I’m not going to tell people, even now—I did create a backstory on that, which would have been really interesting. But I think it’s actually someplace that would require a great deal of imagination, and I think the audience would go. So I wish that they had gone there."

ELF 2---James Caan said a sequel to the 2003 Christmas movie is unlikely although he wanted to, "...do (a sequel) and I thought, 'Oh my god, I finally got a franchise movie, I could make some money, let my kids do what the hell they want to do.' "

JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION---Colin Trevorrow said Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern are returning for prominent roles, not cameos, in DOMINION, "This is the movie that I've been waiting to make from the beginning. It's the one that we have spent the past two movies building to. It really was part of a larger story and part of the design. And I think people may be underestimating the size and importance of Laura Dern and Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum's characters in this movie. It is very much an ensemble, and that [includes] the ability to take these beloved characters from almost 30 years now, and understand how they interact with each other in the context of a world that we've really never seen before, and have not been able to witness until now. It's very exciting for me. I'm having the time of my life."

JURASSIC-WORLD-DOMINION-FOTOR.jpg

NATIONAL TREASURE---producer Jason Reed said a third movie was never made because Walt Disney did not know how to make NATIONAL TREASURE into a park attraction, “I tried my ****edest to get NATIONAL TREASURE 3 up. I love those movies. I worked on those from inception. What I felt happened is even though the movies were extremely successful and had a really strong fanbase, it’s a movie that gets brought up all the time, the company was never able to capitalize on it as a franchise...They never figured out a way to integrate it into the parks. It never caught on, even though there were a lot of consumer products, it never caught on as an independent franchise. That makes the numbers look different. It makes it harder to make a company like Disney focus resources on something when they can go make TOY STORY or buy a cruise ship. And if the company itself had been really excited about moving forward with it and thought they could blow it out, we would have found a way to make the deal.”
Supposedly, NATIONAL TREASURE 3 is underway with Chris Bremner (BAD BOYS FOR LIFE) writing the script, and Reed said, “I think that nowadays with the technology, there’s a way to take that fun and move it into the digital space, whether it’s location-based game play or things like Pokemon Go or whatever, that you could have done to make it have a bigger cultural impact. But I know Jerry [Bruckheimer] keeps working on stuff and I know there’s a lot of interest in a series and another feature and I think it’s ripe to reinvent.”

And I said ‘ok,'...He said, ‘You and I are going to split that amount, and we’re going to give it back [to Paramount]. We’ll give you the money back, but you guys [Paramount] are going to have to share the profits a little bit more.’ Which the studio said ‘Fabulous, great. ok.’ And it was good for us, too.”'
Hanks's investment led to him earning $65 million which exceeded the movie's total budget of $55 million. Paramount did not complain because FORREST GUMP grossed $683 million.

JAMES BOND---Henry Cavill said he still wants to play James Bond after he lost the role to Daniel Craig for CASINO ROYALE, "If Barbara [Bond producer Barbara Broccoli] and Mike [co-producer Michael G. Wilson] were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity. At this stage, it’s all up in the air. We’ll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting."
The producers thought Cavill was too young for the 007 role at the time. Cavill said another factor was his weight, "I probably could have prepared better. I remember the director, Martin Campbell, saying, 'Looking a little chubby there, Henry,' I didn't know how to train or diet. And I'm glad Martin said something because I respond well to truth. It helps me get better."

STAR TREK---Noah Hawley commented on his proposed STAR TREK movie, “What I love about STAR TREK is that it’s not a war story. It’s not a story in which might makes right. It’s a story about exploration. It’s a story about creative problem solving. My favorite moment in all of STAR TREK is in WRATH OF KHAN when Kirk puts on his reading glasses to lower Khan’s shields. It’s a brief moment that is so exhilarating because he’s using the best tool he has, which is his mind.
As much as I like the Chris Pine movies they were mostly about running from one end of the ship to the other to put out a fire, to stop a thing, and then before he could catch his breath he had to do something else. They’re much more action movies and what I wanted to get back to was this idea of humanity justifying existence in the universe by showing its best qualities.”
Hawley also discussed his ALIEN tv miniseries that was rejected by FX “ALIEN is on some level the complete opposite of STAR TREK. It’s sort of about humanity at its worst. There’s this moment in the second film when Sigourney says, ‘I don’t know which species is worse. At least they don’t screw each other over for a percentage.’ If you look at what ALIENS tends to be, it’s usually a trapped story – trapped in a ship, trapped in a prison, etc. And because the Alien has this life cycle to it, where it goes from egg, to chestburster, to xenomorph, there becomes a certain routine to it.
I thought it would be interesting if you could expand. If you’re going to make something for television, you’ve got 10 hours let’s say. Even if you have a lot of action, like two hours, then you’re still going to have eight hours left. So what is the show about? That’s what I tried to talk to them about. As I did with LEGION, the exercise is: Let’s take the superhero stuff out of the show and see if it’s still a great show. What’s the show about? Let’s take the Alien out of the show. What’s the show about? What are the themes, who are the characters and what is the human drama? Then we drop the aliens back in and we go, ‘This is great. Not only is there great human drama, but there’s aliens!'”

INDIANA JONES 5---writer David Koepp explained why Steven Spielberg decided to let James Mangold replace him as director of the new sequel, "I tried a couple different versions with Steven and they all had some good stuff about them and they all had some stuff that didn’t work, which happens. But it was just very hard to have everybody come together and have all the elements — Steven, Harrison (Ford), the script and Disney — come together at once. And it didn’t."
He added, “When James Mangold came in and Steven stepped out, that was a pretty logical breaking point. It’s a gracious time to step out the door because I think the last thing a new director wants is the old director’s writer. I mean, that’s a drag. The last thing you need is some guy sitting around with his arms folded saying, ‘Well, the way Steven would have done it is…’ I had one nice friendly conversation with him and then I’m sure he wanted to be able to move on anyway. Everybody was pretty polite, I thought.”
