ACADEMY AWARD---director Richard Curtis (LOVE ACTUALLY) said Will Ferrell and Peter Sellers should have received Academy Award nominations, "I always get very antsy about the fact that Will Ferrell didn't get nominated for ELF. Or that Peter Sellers didn't get nominated for Inspector Clouseau. But it's the price you pay, as it were. Comedies tend to make a bit of money, and then you don't get the prizes."

RUST---while the ongoing investigation of the fatal shooting of RUST cinematographer Halyna Hutchins continues, Alec Bladwin and his brother William will make two Christmas movies, KID SANTA and BILLIE'S MAGIC WORLD, in Rome.

TRIVIA---two of Sam Neill's most famous movie roles involve Montana. In THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, Neill's Capt. Vasily Borodin tells his commander officer, Capt. Marko Ramius (Sean Connery) about defecting to America, "I will live in Montana. And I will marry a round American woman and raise rabbits, and she will cook them for me. And I will have a pickup truck...possibly even a 'recreational vehicle'". OBI-WAN KENOBI---director Deborah Chow commented on Hayden Christensen returning as a partially-formed Darth Vader in the Disney+ miniseries, “I really wanted to do something that was character-based and character-driven because that is the benefit of the limited series, is that you have more time to sort of tell a real character story. So for me, the starting place of character is you just start, and you look at who has been important to him in his life. And it’s quite hard to avoid Anakin/Vader in that scenario, especially coming out of REVENGE OF THE SITH.
[So] it came out of an evolution of the character for me. It wasn’t just to sort of bring him back. It was really like, who means something and where are we at this point in the timeline with Vader?
He isn’t the NEW HOPE Vader quite yet; you know what I mean? So we are with the character sort of in the middle of this period. It is still Vader obviously, but it’s a Vader that isn’t quite as fully formed as A NEW HOPE."

BLACKHAWK---writer David Koepp commented on the status of the Steven Spielberg movie based on the DC comic book about a team of World War II pilots fighting evil, “We have a script that’s very good and we all think it’s very good. There were a lot of management changes at Warner Bros, so I think we’ve just been kind of waiting for that to settle down, and for them to decide what they want to do with their DC Universe.
Obviously I hope he does it or if he doesn’t direct it, I hope he produces it, someone great directs. Because it would be a great deal of fun. I’m very fond of the script and I hope it comes together. But again, that’s one of those movies that’s gonna need $200 million so, trying to get those whales off the beach is a big process.”
He added, “It would be hard because it’s 1941 or 1940, actually. So it would be a little tricky. As we were developing the script, we said ‘Hey, let’s make one great movie. It’s 1940, that’s the way it is.’ And if it works out and in the future they decide they want to unite anybody, I’m sure time travel will not be a problem. Because comic books have a great way of figuring that stuff out.”

42ND GOLDEN RASPBERRY AWARDS---DIANA THE MUSICAL (Netflix) won five Razzies including Worst Picture. SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY won three Razzies including LeBron James for Worst Actor.
Bruce Willis was nominated for eight Razzies in the special category of Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie, and he won for COSMIC SIN.

HALO---HALO premiere became Paramount+'s most-watched series within 24 hours.

THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY HOLIDAY SPECIAL---James Gunn commented on the Disney+ December 22 special, “THE HOLIDAY SPECIAL is the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life. It’s totally ridiculous, and every day we can’t believe that we’re making it. We all completely love it. It is unlike anything that anyone’s ever seen before. I can’t wait for people to see it, and it’s out pretty soon. it’s out this Christmas. It’s not like people have to wait that long.”

TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia.
In GOLDFINGER, four 1964 Aston Martin DB5 sports cars were used, but only one, serial number DP/216/1, was fitted with gadgets including pop-up machine guns, oil/water sprayers and tire shredders. The gadget-laden DB5, known as "the most famous car in the world", was owned by a private collector and stolen in 1997 after thieves cut through a hangar door, cut a padlock and disabled the alarm at the Boca Raton Airport in Florida. It is valued at $25 million.
Christopher Marinello, an attorney and founder of Art Recovery International, joined the search for the missing car in 2007 and appears to have found it in 2022 in the Middle East. He said, "I’ve been working on the case since 2007, and will continue to do so until the car is recovered, or the title dispute resolved in an amicable, discreet fashion. We don’t know how the car got to where it is currently, but we do have a solid lead and strong verification. It is time for someone to suggest a meeting to resolve this dispute...I’m a law and order guy. I don’t like criminals — whether Nazis, looters, thieves or buyers of stolen items who didn’t ask any questions. Taking something that doesn’t belong to you, or hiding it from the rightful owners, is an incredible violation. I recognize that ‘good faith buyers’ exist, who may have no knowledge of the original crimes. But still, I expect such individuals to maintain that good faith and resolve the title issues amicably – without the need for litigation."

HG WELLS---Paramount Pictures movie underway which will be a "very loose adaptation" of a HG Wells's novel. No information was released on which novel is involved.

ACADEMY AWARDS---the 94th Academy Awards broadcast had 15.3 million viewers which was a 48% increase over last year's broadcast which had no hosts during the peak of the coronavirus pandemic. However, it was still the second least-watched awards ceremony of all time.

DARK MATTER---Joel Edgerton will star in the Apple TV+ series based on the sci fi novel.

DOCTOR WHO---Steven Moffat commented on the new Doctor Who will be part of a "Marvel-style makeover" for the series, "Isn’t Marvel just like Doctor Who? Doctor Who’s been doing that for a very, very long time. Certainly, since Russell brought it back, but arguably a lot before that, it’s been very human-driven...I don’t know what ‘more Marvel’ means. I would hope [it] means more money. And I think that would be good, more Marvel in that sense, but I’m not sure how much more Marvel it could get, and I’m not sure they’ve got it the right way around."

BLACK---movie underway based on the comic book involving a conspiracy in which only blacks have superpowers. Gerard McMurray is the director.

TRIVIA---Susan Bay Nimoy played Adm. Rollman in STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE. Her second husband is Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock in the STAR TREK franchise.

Susan Bay Nimoy's first husband was John Schuck, who played the Klingon ambassador in STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME and STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY, and he appeared in STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE, VOYAGER and ENTERPRISE.

BRUCE WILLIS---the DIE HARD star announced he is retiring from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia, a neurological disorder which causes a loss in the ability to talk and communicate. His family issued a statement, "To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities," his family said in a statement. "As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him."

WELCOME TO DERRY------HBO Max miniseries underway that will be a prequel to IT and will be about the origin of Pennywise the Clown. Andy Muschietti will direct the first episode.

BLUE BEETLE---Sharon Stone is in "final talks" to play villain Victoria Kord in the HBO Max superhero movie.

LANDO---Donald Glover was asked about the status of the Disney+ Lando Calrissian series, “[Laughs] Am I…? […] No, yeah… You know, I have a lot of things. I like to blossom, and then go away. […] And right now it’s definitely the start of another one of those. I have like a ton of stuff I’ve been working on, but I just wanted it all to come out at the same time. I feel like that’s what’s important to me.”

FANTASTIC FOUR---a fan posted the following question to writer MOON KNIGHT and FANTASTIC FOUR writer Jeremy Slater, "Question; big fan here (shows off fan club lapel pin), excited for your success with Mr. Knight & Co.; but inspired to ask…what lessons did you take from Fantastic Four with you into Moon Knight to make it (and the experience) better?"
Slater replied he his FANTASTIC FOUR problem was with director Josh Trank, "Well, most of my problems with FANTASTIC FOUR stemmed from the fact that I was trying to write it like an MCU movie, which wasn't what the director wanted.

STINGER---James Wan/Peacock tv series underway based on the novel about an alien and an alien bounty hunter who land near the town of Inferno, Texas.

RED RIGHT HAND---Orlando Bloom and Andie McDowell star in this movie whose synopsis says, “The film centers around on Cash (Bloom), who is trying to live an honest and quiet life, taking care of his niece Savannah in the Appalachian hills of Odim County, When the sadistic Queenpin Big Cat (MacDowell) who runs the town forces him back into her services, Cash learns he’s capable of anything—even killing—to protect the town and the only family he has left. ABC---the network renewed THE ROOKIE and THE GOOD DOCTOR.

TRIVIA---PREDATOR 2, the sequel to PREDATOR, would have returned Arnold Schwarzenegger to team up with Patrick Swayze, who became a big star after GHOST. However, Swayze was unable to join the sequel because he was "out of action due to an injury he had sustained on the set of 1989’s Road House", and Schwarzenegger did not return due to a "dispute over his proposed salary". Danny Glover and Gary Busey then became the sequel's stars.

DR. NO---at a Hollywood press conference, producer Barbara Broccoli announced the next James Bond movie will be a reboot of the first 007 movie, DR. NO, which will be titled DR. YU NO WHO and that former DOCTOR WHO star Jodie Whitaker will be the first female James Bond. Broccoli was ecstatic when there was a thunderous roar to her announcement about a female 007, but a reporter explained the thunderous roar was really Ian Fleming rolling over in his grave.

CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR PART II: C'MON MAN!!!---Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts return for the sequel in which Congressman Charlie Wilson's ghost returns to Afghanistan to deliver Stinger missiles to the hundreds of Americans left behind after President Joe Biden's disastrous withdrawal. The Americans will use the Stingers to shoot down the many Black Hawk helicopters left behind that are now flown by the Taliban to attack the Americans. Wilson's ghost then travels to Ukraine to deliver more Stingers to the Ukraine army to shoot down Russian jets after Biden's Afghanistan withdrawal told Russian's Vladimir Putin that Russia could invade Ukraine without US reprisals because Biden's foreign policy was one of appeasement and incompetence.

THE ASSASSINATION BUREAU---remake underway of the 1969 assassination movie that starred Diana Rigg, Oliver Reed and Telly Savalas. The remake movie has a modern-day female movie critic hiring assassins to assassinate movie producers who are making the avalanche of assassin movies about retired Special Ops assassins, retired CIA assassins, retired mob assassins, Russian mob assassins, assassins assassinating assassins, female assassins, black assassins, Asian assassins, blind assassins, child assassins, alien assassins, illegal alien assassins, transgender assassins, dwarf assassins, amnesiac assassins, pet assassins, animated assassins....

THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES: I DID THAT!---CBS is developing a reboot of the hit 1960s sitcom that starred Buddy Ebsen. The reboot has hillbilly Jed Clampett becoming a billionaire after finding oil on his property and moving to Beverly Hills. But when President Joe Biden's Green New Deal cancels the Frack-U Pipeline that would have carried the oil from Jed's property to Houston to be refined, Jed and his family are penniless, while the Biden administration tries to lower soaring gas prices by seeking to buy oil from Russia, Iran and Venezuela.

TRIVIA---for the first time in the history of the Academy Awards, the 94th ceremony had three hosts. Also, for the first time in history, the number of the ceremony hosts exceeded the number of people who watched it on tv.

STAR WARS: THE FIRST SHOOTER---Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy announced a Disney+ eight-part miniseries that settles the long-running controversy of who shot first: Han Solo or Greedo in the cantina scene in the original STAR WARS. Harrison Ford will return as Han Solo using ILM's de-aging technology. Kennedy said Gina Carano will play soon-to-die Greedo, "So I can get rid of her from the STAR WARS franchise once and for all."

STAR TREK: SON OF KHAN---Paramount+ announced another new spinoff tv series which begins with the deleted scene in STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN where Khan's infant son is next to the Genesis Device before it explodes and destroys the starship Reliant. The infant's remains are blown to the planet Beta Max VIII where Genesis rejuvenates the remains into an adult, "Son of Khan", who then seeks revenge on Dr. David Marcus, the son of Capt. James T. Kirk, who was also rejuvenated on the Genesis Planet after being killed by a Klingon in STAR TREK III: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK. The spinoff will focus on Son of Khan's relentless pursuit of David Marcus in which he repeats the oath his father swore to pursue Capt. Kirk, "He tasks me. He tasks me, And I shall have him! I'll chase him 'round the moons Of Nibia, And 'round the Antares Maelstrom, and 'round Perdition's flames before I give him up!"

STAR TREK: THE TROUBLE WITH TRIPLES---new Paramount+ spinoff series in which Capt. James T. Kirk and the crew of the starship Enterprise travel back in time to prevent the Paramount+ plan to triple the number of STAR TREK spinoff shows which will lead to fan fatigue and kill the entire STAR TREK franchise. William Shatner and George Takei said preventing the deluge of new spinoffs to save the franchise is so important that they will end their long-running feud and reunite for the new spinoff series.

INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST DREAM---reliable sources say the plot of the last Indiana Jones movie starring Harrison Ford has psychologist Dr. Bob Hartley waking up and telling his wife Emily that the entire Indiana Jones franchise was really a dream because before he went to bed, he watched Ford in BLADE RUNNER 2049.

JURASSIC PARK: ALIEN VS DINOSAUR---Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott replied to fan criticism that both the JURASSIC PARK and ALIEN franchises have run out of creative juices by announcing a reboot movie of both franchises in which Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) lead a spaceship carrying the weaponized dinosaurs from JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM into outer space to battle an invading Alien army that threatens Earth. Muhammad Ali (Will Smith) will pilot the spaceship and slap any Alien who insults his wife. Spielberg said the reboot will no longer limit the creative potential of the JURASSIC PARK franchise to Isla Nublar, but it will now be in outer space, "Where no dinosaur has gone before."

However, six months after THE WRECKING CREW premiered, co-star Sharon Tate was murdered by Charles Manson and his followers. Martin was despondent over Tate's murder and refused to return for THE RAVAGERS. Columbia Studios held up Martin's profits from one the earlier Matt Helm movies and started legal action against him. THE RAVAGERS was eventually cancelled which ended the franchise starring Martin.

WILL SMITH---a source said Netflix and Apple+ have ended their interest in the Will Smith biomovie after the Chris Rock slapping incident, "Netflix and Apple+ have quietly removed their bids for a Will Smith biopic and will instead relocate the funds and develop original ideas from new black actors. Working with Will has become a risky business. They now plan on developing ideas with more family friendly stars like Mike Epps and Michael B. Jordan." Smith's upcoming BAD BOYS 4 has also been put on hold. DC's DEADSHOT movie has been "put on the backburner" because Smith wanted too much money. Smith received $20 million for KING RICHARD.

THE FLASH---Warner Bros. and DC executives reportedly had an "emergency meeting" on March 30 to discuss the latest incident involving Ezra Miller after he was recently arrested for disorderly conduct and harassment in Hawaii. During THE FLASH filming, Miller had "frequent meltdowns". Consequently, Miller's future projects are now on hold.

CONSTELLATION---Noomi Rapace and Jonathan Banks star in this Apple TV+ sci fi series in which a woman returns to Earth after an outer space disaster and discovers parts of her life are missing which leads her to investigate the hidden history of space travel.

SPIDER-MAN---Sam Raimi commented on reuniting with Tobey Maguire in a SPIDER-MAN sequel, “I’ve come to realize after making DOCTOR STRANGE that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don’t know what their thoughts are about that. I haven’t really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn’t a Spider-Man movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.”

THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER---Frank Langella has left the Netflix miniseries after an investigation into unacceptable behavior involving sexual harassment during filming. Langella's role of Roderick Usher will be recast and reshot.

TED---Peacock prequel tv series to the two TED movies is underway with Seth MacFarlane returning. The synopsis says, “It’s 1993 and Ted the bear’s moment of fame has passed, leaving him living with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett, who lives in a working-class Boston home with his parents and cousin. Ted may not be the best influence on John, but when it comes right down to it, Ted’s willing to go out on a limb to help his friend and his family.”
With MacFarlane and Scott Grimes being part of the TED cast, it appears to confirm that THE ORVILLE's Season 3 will be the last season as cast contracts were allowed to expire and no announced plans for a Season 4.

MAGIC MIKE'S LAST DANCE---Warner Bros. announced that Thandiwe Newton left the sequel for "family reasons" and has been replaced by Selma Hayek. However, a British tabloid claims Thandiwe was fired after a heated argument with Channing Tatum over Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Academy Awards. A supposed crew member said, "Channing Tatum is the producer and number one on set. Thandiwe Newton is the number two star. But 11 days into shooting and it's all over. They fell out over the debacle at The Oscars. I was on set. I watched her and watched him. They were in and out of the house where we were filming having this confrontation."
Thandiwe's spokesperson denied the report, “This report is completely inaccurate."

THE GOLD---BBC/Paramount+ miniseries underway about the 1983 heist of the Brink's-Mat security depot near London's Heathrow Airport that netted $46 million in gold, diamonds and cash. Dominic Cooper, Jack Lowden and Hugh Bonneville star.

THE STICKY---Amazon Prime series underway based on the true story of The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist which involved a frustrated female maple syrup farmer and a mobster who stole $18 million (Canadian) worth of national maple syrup reserves, 77% of the world's supply, which is the largest heist in Canadian history. Jamie Lee Curtis is the executive producer.

TRIVIA---James Cameron explained the origin of the ALIENS poster, "There was a funny one-sheet story on ALIENS! I did have a strong opinion on that.
So I went into the office of the the head of marketing for 20th Century Fox, I literally met him on his last day at the office and his office was all boxed up. I was his last meeting before he left the job. He was sitting at the desk and he had this little green plastic frog and he was squeezing a bulb and making it hop around the desk. And I said, 'What’s with the frog?' And he said, 'It’s my stress frog.' I’m like, 'OK, this guy is a casualty.'
Then he said, 'But I’ve got a one-sheet for you.' And he showed this one-sheet. I think you can get it online, a few of them kind of leaked out. And it was this horrible sort of mash-up photography. It looked worse than a Roger Corman one-sheet because, like me, Roger believed in good one-sheets. Not good movies, but good one-sheets. And I looked at this thing and I kind of held it in my hands and and I said, 'Oh, let me tell you exactly what I think of this one-sheet,' and I just slowly sort of crumpled it up [into] a ball and threw it in the corner. And he was working the stress frog. And I said, 'Honestly, if I had a choice between that piece of ***** and just an all-black frame, I’d go with the all-black frame.' And apparently what happened was I walked out of the office and he called somebody up and said 'He wants it all black!' He wasn’t hearing what I was saying. So if you ever wondered why there was literally nothing on the one-sheet for ALIENS, that’s why."

In THEM!, Leonard Nimoy played an Army sergeant and William Schallert played the ambulance attendant. In "The Trouble with Tribbles", Nimoy played Spock and Schallert played Under-Secretary Nitz Baris (Schallert did not know his character's name until years later when he attended a STAR TREK convention---see link below).

DUNE---David Lynch commented on a possible director's cut of DUNE, “DUNE – people have said, “Don’t you want to go back and fiddle with DUNE?” And I was so depressed and sickened by it, you know?
I want to say, I loved everybody that I worked with; they were so fantastic. I loved all the actors; I loved the crew; I loved working in Mexico; I loved everything except that I didn’t have final cut. And I even loved Dino [De Laurentiis], who wouldn’t give me what I wanted [laughs]. And Raffaella, the producer, who was his daughter – I loved her.
But the thing was a horrible sadness and failure to me, and if I could go back in I’ve thought, well, maybe I would on that one go back in."
He added, “Yeah, I wanted to walk away. I always say, and it’s true, that with DUNE, I sold out before I finished. It’s not like there’s a bunch of gold in the vaults waiting to be cut and put back together. It’s like, early on I knew what Dino wanted and what I could get away with and what I couldn’t.
And so I started selling out, and it’s a sad, sad, pathetic, ridiculous story. But I would like to see what is there. I can’t remember, that’s the weird thing [laughs]. I can’t remember. And so it might be interesting – there could be something there. But I don’t think it’s a silk purse. I know it’s a sow’s ear.”

24----Kiefer Sutherland said he is open to returning as Jack Bauer in a future project, “I miss it. It was an incredible experience. I have learned that you’re just better off not to be definitive about your answer of whether you will do something or not do something. I love playing that character. I do believe the story is unresolved. If something were to be written that made sense to me and that I thought was going to contribute to the franchise then I would be behind it, even if my participation in that were to be limited.
My involvement will always be predicated on what I perceive is the quality of the writing. If [original showrunner] Howard Gordon is motivated to do it, we’ll see what happens.”
