STRANGER THINGS---Ross Duffer denied a fan rumor that the last season will reveal that the show's characters are really playing a lengthy, elaborate game of Dungeons and Dragons, "That would be the equivalent of, ‘That’s all a dream’. No, I assure you that is not how we’re going to end the show. We’ve known where we’ve been going for a while. And we feel comfortable with it; hopefully, it satisfies everyone. We’ll see.”

TRIPLE FRONTIER---Charlie Hunnam said a sequel to the 2019 Netflix movie is in the early stages of development, “Nothing guaranteed, but I just set up recently as the main producer on a potential sequel to TRIPLE FRONTIER at Netflix. I’m really hopeful.” Ben Afffleck, Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac also starred.

I think Hollywood refers to it as using their 'artistic license'.......the difference of course here is that they darkened the character of a real person.

Like in Sink the Bismarck, the German Admiral Lutjens is portrayed as a fanatical Nazi who thought the ship was unsinkable. He was actually anti-Nazi and would give the Naval salute instead of the Nazi salute. And he didn't think the Bismarck had much chance of survival.

I read he was wounded in the battle for Foy and that's why he left the company. During Market Garden he “organized and led scattered groups of parachutists in the successful defense of an important road junction on the vital Eindhoven (sic)-Arnhem Supply Route against superior and repeated attacks, while completely surrounded." Dike was awarded a second Bronze Star for his action at Bastogne, in which "he personally removed from an exposed position, in full enemy view, three wounded members of his company, while under intense small arms fire" on 3 January 1945."He died in 1989.

GODZILLA MINUS ONE/MINUS COLOR---trailer released for the black and white version of the hit movie. Writer/director Takashi Yamazaki said, "'GODZILLA MINUS ONE/ MINUS COLOR, which has been in the works for a long time, will finally release. The team did not just make the film monochrome, but coordinated it shot-by-shot, making full use of various mats (*grayscale images used to specify only the necessary area in each material when compositing multiple image materials), as if they were creating a new film. The goal was to create an image tone as if taken by the masters of black-and-white photography. I asked them to unearth as much skin texture and landscape detail as possible, which were latent in the captured data. Then, Godzilla appeared, as terrifying and horrifying as in a documentary. A new sense of reality that looms over you by losing colors. Please come to the theater and live and resist the further horror."
MINUS COLOR will appear in 340 Japanese theaters beginning on January 12. No plans were mentioned for a US release.

THE BUCCANEERS---Apple TV renewed the series for Season 2.

TRIVIA---the classic Western TOMBSTONE (Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Michael Biehn, Sam Elliott and Bill Paxton) was about the legendary Gunfight at the OK Corral. Kevin Jarre was supposed to direct the movie he wrote, but he was fired and replaced by George P. Cosmatos (COBRA, LEVIATHAN). However, rumors claim Cosmatos was not up to the task, and Kurt Russell directed the movie behind Cosmatos' back. Russell commented on the rumors, "TOMBSTONE will always remain a mystery. I made a promise to somebody that I won’t talk about things publicly. At the end of the day, I’m really glad that it came out as well as it did.
It had a group of fantastic actors and a writer that, in my opinion, wrote the best Western dialogue ever. And I always see it climbing its way up the ranks in the ‘Best Western’ conversation. I will say this: If I had not been around, TOMBSTONE wouldn’t have, either.”

TOMBSTONE-FOTOR.png

While I believe that Dike was misrepresented in the show, my memory of Ambrose's book and from some of the later auto-biographies, is that he was loathed by a number of key Easy Co veterans.

Regarding Easy Company members' memories of their fellow paratroopers such as Lt. Dike, Pvt. Albert Blithe was shown in the miniseries as being mortally wounded by a German sniper after D-Day. Bill Guarnere and Babe Heffron told Ambrose they attended Blithe's funeral in 1948. In fact, Blithe survived World War II and fought in the Korean War and died in 1967.

TRIVIA---Christmas movie trivia.
In the 1990 Christmas movie HOME ALONE, Kevin McCallister went to the grocery store and bought a 1/2 gallon of milk, a 1/2 gallon of Tropicana orange juice, a loaf of Wonderbread, frozen macaroni and cheese, Tide laundry detergent, plastic wrap, toilet paper, toy soldiers and Snuggle dryer sheets---and paid $19.83. According to a recent internet poster which drew national attention, in 2023 the same items would cost $72.83 which is a whopping 248% increase, “The total in 1990? $19.83. Last year those items cost $44.40. Today? Only 1 year later, those same items cost $72.28, after tax. That’s a 248 percent increase. I am SICK.”
However, a Poynter Institute fact-checker bought the same items at the Grand Food Center featured in HOME ALONE that is a six-minute walk from Kevin's house and found the cost was $56.84. Some of the exact same items from 1990 were not available, so the fact-checker substituted package size adjustments and reportedly similar items from other stores. The Bureau of Labor inflation says 2023 costs are 2.35 times more than 1990 and $19.83 spent in December, 1990 would equal $45.62 in October, 2023.
By comparison, Kevin's house in HOME ALONE at 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, Illinois sold for $880,000 in 1988, and Zillow says it is currently worth $2.34 million.

An internet poster claimed the grocery store items Kevin bought in HOME ALONE for $19.83 in 1990 now cost $72.83, but a Poynter Institute fact-checker claimed the items really cost $56.84.

FAST FIVE---Vin Diesel's former assistant, Asta Jonasson, filed a lawsuit against Diesel and accused him of sexual battery in Diesel's Atlanta St. Regis Hotel suite while filming the sequel in 2010. Jonasson claimed Diesel “pulled her onto the bed …. and molested her body.” She added that Diesel masturbated in front of her while he pinned her against the wall. After the incident, Jonasson claimed she was fired by Diesel's sister, Samantha Vincent, head of Diesel's One Race Films production company. The lawsuit said, “It was clear to her that she was being fired because she was no longer useful.”
Diesel's attorney, Bryan Freedman, denied the accusations, “Let me be very clear: Vin Diesel categorically denies this claim in its entirety. This is the first he has ever heard about this more than 13-year-old claim made by a purportedly 9-day employee. There is clear evidence which completely refutes these outlandish allegations.”

FAST-FIVE-FOTOR.png

THE FAMILY PLAN---the comedy assassin movie starring Mark Wahlberg is Apple Tv+'s most-watched movie in its history.

THE RETURN OF THE ROCKETEER---David Oyelowo commented on the status of the sequel to the 1991 movie that starred Billy Campbell, Timothy Dalton and Jennifer Connelly, “We have forward momentum. I know you guys hear this stuff all the time, but we are in the script development stage and if you’re going to reinvigorate that beloved franchise, you better come with the goods. And so Eugene Ashe is currently writing away and we were talking about it only this week. We’re all very committed to that. But it’s going to have to be great and we will not rest until it is.”

ZATANNA---writer Emerald Fennell said the DC superhero movie is longer in the works, “No, it’s not happening. So this was something I was working on before PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN, and it was when J.J. Abrams had, I think, just arrived at Warner Bros. and was going to reboot the Dark Universe … and they were going to make this new kind of dark villain universe, or hero-villain universe. Because I love genre of all kinds so much … I [was] definitely interested."

THE GILDED AGE---HBO renewed the series for Season 3.

TRIVIA---Christmas movie trivia.
Director/composer John Carpenter is best known for his horror and sci fi movies including THE THING, HALLOWEEN and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, but he posted about his family's connection to a popular Christmas song, "My father Howard Carpenter played violin on Brenda Lee's JINGLE BELL ROCK. He was a member of the Nashville Strings."
Lee's version of "Jingle Bell Rock", which was on her 1964 album MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM BRENDA LEE, has charted on the Billboard Top 100 every year since 2019.
Howard Carpenter, a music professor at Western Kentucky University, also played the violin with Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison and Waylon Jennings.

REBEL MOON--PART TWO: THE SCARGIVER---trailer posted for the Netflix sequel.
Also, co-writer Kurt Johnstad commented on PART ONE's dismal 23% Rotten Tomatoes critics score, "I don’t read the reviews, I never have. Critics have a job to do. We live in a democracy. Everybody gets to vote. If people watch the film, they’ll have an experience, and they will either enjoy it or they won’t. It’s flavors of ice cream.
In my career of 20 years doing this, reviews have never equated to performance. A movie will either perform or it won’t. People will either love it and be connected to it, and I think what this movie has is an emotional drive and a core and characters that are vulnerable.
And of course, there’s sequence and action and visual – it’s a magnificent looking film. But I think that at the core of it, it’s got emotion. There’s an emotional engine and a currency that runs through the film that I think works, so I’d invite people to check it out.”

SCREAM 7---director Christopher Landon announced he has departed the sequel after Melissa Barrera was fired for posing anti-Semitic comments and Jenny Ortega left due to a schedule problem with WEDNESDAY, “I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited SCREAM 7 weeks ago. This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on. I have nothing more to add to the conversation other than I hope Wes’ [Craven] legacy thrives and lifts above the din of a divided world. What he and Kevin [Williamson] created is something amazing, and I was honored to have even the briefest moment basking in their glow.”

GODZILLA MINUS ONE---producer Minami Ichikawa commented on the future of the franchise after MINUS ONE has earned $75 million worldwide with a budget under $15 million, "We’re collectively considering the future of the Godzilla character. We’ve had things like animated Godzilla films in the past, so we’re brainstorming new avenues to expand the Godzilla universe.”

BARBIE---producer Robbie Brenner commented on BARBIE crossovers with other Mattel movies, “There’s so much crossover potential. Certainly Barbie can live with Hot Wheels and Matchbox and Major Matt Mason. The other day someone came to visit, and we were giving them a tour and we were showing them the Basquiat upstairs and the Warhol. It happened to have been Halloween, so all of the kids were trick-or-treating [in offices] and in costumes. I thought to myself, this is a setup for a movie, a kid’s heist film where they steal the Basquiat and Warhol. That’s a good Mattel movie.”

KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE---director Stephen Chiodo said he wants to develop a tv miniseries based on the 1988 sci fi horror movie, “My goal is to do an eight-part miniseries for streamers. We’ve got a great concept that continues the story of our main characters. We’ll follow a new group of teenagers who come upon the clowns and meet a drunk living in his van – it’s Mike Tobacco. There’s a big invasion, and we end up on the clown planet.”
He added, ”We have lots of great ideas about where this universe goes. You haven’t even seen the clown animals on the clown planet yet. There’s a whole world of things that we have in mind!”

TRIVIA---DIE HARD co-writer Steven E. de Souza commented on the long-running debate about DIE HARD being a Christmas movie, ““White Christmas” is universally acknowledged as a benchmark Christmas movie, so empirical evidence proves “Die Hard” is even *more* Christmas-y.”
Peter Billingsley, star of A CHRISTMAS STORY, also supports DIE HARD is a Christmas movie by pointing out it uses Christmas songs "Christmas in Hollis" and "Let It Snow", is set at the Nakatomi Corporation Christmas party, has Santas, has the iconic "Now I have a machine gun ho ho ho"" and added, “Most importantly, I think it embodies the themes of Christmas of acceptance, forgiveness, love and family.”
Earlier, director John McTiernan said, “We hadn’t intended it to be a Christmas movie, but the joy that came from it is what turned it into a Christmas movie.”

Also, Snyder said he is suffering from superhero movie fatigue, “I have the same fatigue” and he considers super hero movies to be “a cul-de-sac now...No one thinks they’re going to a one-off superhero movie.”
Snyder said he wants a James Bond movie to be his next project, “It’d be cool to see, like, 20-year-old James Bond. The humble roots that he comes from. Whatever trauma of youth that makes you be able to be James Bond. There has to be something there.”
Christopher Nolan commented on Snyder, “There’s no superhero science-fiction film coming out these days where I don’t see some influence of Zack…When you watch a Zack Snyder film, you see and feel his love for the potential of cinema. The potential of it to be fantastical, to be heightened in its reality, but to move you and to excite you.”

REBL-MOON-FOTOR.jpg

THE COLOR PURPLE---the remake movie earned $18.2 million on its Christmas Day premiere which is second to SHERLOCK HOLMES which earned $24.6 million on Christmas Day.

PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS---the premiere drew 13.3 million viewers in six days which put it in Disney+'s top five premieres of 2023.

THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT---Temeura Morrison commented on a possible Season 2, "I don't know what's going on there. We're coming out of this downtime period so I think everyone is just settling back in and it all goes back to budgets and what they want to do and how much the thing costs. I really don't know. Judging by the fans I've met, they all want a Season 2, but I don't know what's going to happen."

THE BATMAN: PART TWO---James Gunn commented on rumors that the sequel's villains are Professor Pyg, Scarecrow, Clayface and Hush, "Nope. Totally made up."

TWISTERS---Glen Powell compared the movie to the original 1996 movie, “It’s definitely not a reboot. We’re not trying to recreate the story from the first one. It’s a completely original story. There are no characters from the original movie back, so it’s not really a continuation. It’s just its own standalone story in the modern-day.” Rumors claimed the new movie would feature the daughter of the characters played by Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt.

REACHER---Alan Ritchson commented on Season 3, "I can't say too much about Season 3, but I will say there's a lot of classic REACHER stories which are just adventures that he gets sucked into in a big way. And we get to enjoy REACHER in a new world. It may not have anything to do with family, with his past, he's just living that adventure out and that's kind of the direction that we've gone and it seems to really be working."

TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia.
Martine Beswick played Bond Girls in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and THUNDERBALL. Beswick auditioned for the role of Honey Ryder in DR. NO, but Ursula Andress got the part. However, many sources claim Beswick did appear in DR. NO as a dancer. When asked to comment on the claims, Beswick replied, "I was hoping somebody would bring this up because it's a fallacy! JAMES BOND---Paul Giamatti said he wants to play a Bond Villain in a future James Bond movie, “I’d want an accent of some kind. I’d definitely want an accent. It’d be nice to have an animal with me of some kind. Not necessarily a cat, but something. Any animal, maybe. Not a parrot or something. Something real. I don’t know. An accent, though, of some kind I’d have to have. A guy who’s all in fur coats and stuff like that? Be great.“

CARS---Pixar's Jay Ward said more animated CARS movies are planned, “There are more CARS things brewing, I can’t say much more yet. CARS has got a life that will keep going. I am working on some real fun projects right now that you will see in a couple of years. It takes us a while to make them.”

BATMAN---Daniel Waters, who wrote the screenplay for the BATMAN RETURNS sequel, commented on the original movie, “[Tim Burton] was not crazy about BATMAN. And I wasn’t crazy about it either. STAR WARS---JOHN WICK director Chad Stahelski said he wants to direct a STAR WARS movie, “Everyone’s got their thing, right? Like I’m a STAR WARS guy. The first STAR WARS changed my life. Maybe someday out there, Disney, if you’re listening… hit me in a couple of years, and I have a couple of takes for STAR WARS. I’d take a swing at that. I challenge you… take a [chance and] if Disney could survive me.”
He also said he wants to direct a BLADE movie for Marvel Studios, “Of all the things out there, I would take a swing at BLADE in a second. That’s one that gets under my skin; I’m like, ‘I would take a swing at that.'”
Look, I’ve worked for Marvel, a bunch. They’ve been very, very good to me. And certainly, Kevin Feige has almost been like a mentor in a capacity with the advice he’s been very happy to give me about opening a franchise with ‘John Wick.’
We’ve talked about it. But they have a very good formula, and they have their thing going, and I think they’ve got the right people involved in BLADE now, not that I’m in the inner circle. But we’ve had talks, but for whatever reason, things come together for [a reason], and there’s a good fit for them now.
But for what they’re doing, they’ve got a great thing going, but if that thing doesn’t work out for them in five years from now, I’d still be like, ‘yeah’.”

NINE VOYAGES---George RR Martin said HBO is developing three animated GAME OF THRONES spinoff series. One will feature Sea Snake Lord Corlys Velaryon, "As it happens, HBO and I have our own animated projects, set in the world of A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE. None of them have been greenlit yet, but I think we are getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them...We have moved NINE VOYAGES, our series about the legendary voyages of the Sea Snake, over from live action to animation. A move I support fully.
Budgetary constraints would likely have made a live action version prohibitively expensive, what with half the show taking place at sea, and the necessity of creating a different port every week, from Driftmark to Lys to the Basilisk Isles to Volantis to Qarth to…well, on and on and on.
There’s a whole world out there. And we have a lot better chance of showing it all with animation. So we now have three animated projects underway.”

WEDNESDAY---casting for Season 2 will add three new characters. Karloff is an athletic teenage male and will wear prosthetics, Wolfgang is a charming teenage male and Annie is a teenager who is “whip-smart and wise beyond her years”.

TRIVIA---in the STAR TREK tv pilot "The Cage", John Hoyt played starship Enterprise's Dr. Phillip Boyce. After the pilot was screened, Hoyt said there was total "silence" from the audience. When Hoyt was not asked to return for the second tv pilot, "Where No Man Has Gone before", he was happy because he felt STAR TREK was going to be a disaster. Later, after STAR TREK became a phenomenon, Hoyt realized he had missed out on a great opportunity.

GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE--- director Adam Wingard commented on THE NEW EMPIRE, "One of the incredible things about Godzilla is that the character has existed in so many different tones and interpretations in the Toho films. I’m a huge fan of the whole spectrum, and I’ve always really enjoyed the late-Shōwa era. There are so many big ideas and they have such epic fun with these larger-than-life characters. In GODZILLA VS. KONG, we paid homage to that epic tradition, including a handful of Easter eggs for the hardcore fans, and while I don’t want to give anything away, we definitely work in a few things for the Toho fans in the new film as well, so keep your eyes open!”
A new photo shows Wingard with Dan Stevens who said his character, Trapper, is “a specialist in these creatures… If you’ve got a sick titan, Trapper is your guy".
A second photo shows Rebecca Hall as Dr. Ilene Andrews and Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes.

KLARA AND THE SUN---Jenny Ortega is in talks to star in the Taika Waititi movie based on the sci fi novel. The novel's synopsis says, "Here is the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend with outstanding observational qualities, who, from her place in the store, watches carefully the behavior of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass on the street outside. She remains hopeful that a customer will soon choose her. Klara and the Sun is a thrilling book that offers a look at our changing world through the eyes of an unforgettable narrator, and one that explores the fundamental question: what does it mean to love?"

BARBIE---Margot Robbie commented on a BARBIE sequel, "It’s funny, that knee-jerk reaction in this day and age for everyone to immediately ask about a sequel. I don’t think it was like that 20 years ago. This wasn’t designed to be a trilogy.
Everything went into BARBIE – and that’s how Greta [Gerwig] works. She finishes every movie on empty, feeling like she could never make another movie because she put everything she had into that one. So I don’t know what it would take to fill that cup up again for [Greta]. Or for us. I think Warners would also agree. I don’t know what more could even look like.
We want to make more films that have the effect that BARBIE has. I don’t know if it has to be BARBIE 2. Why can’t it be another big, original, bold idea where we get an amazing filmmaker, a big budget to play with, and the trust of a huge conglomerate behind them to go and really play? I want to do that.”
Robbie also commented on any possible Harley Quinn projects, “I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters. That was always the dream for her. Harley’s so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else’s hands, and it’s like, ‘What are they going to do with her?’ The options are endless.”

SUICIDE SQUAD---David Ayer commented on the possibility of an Ayer Cut of SUICIDE SQUAD, "Nope. Done and done. Very sad. You’ll be fine after a good cry. I feel healthier. It’s a wound that needs to heal. Nothing about the situation feels good. Studio has no interest in releasing it. It’s time to run and not look back.”

WATSON---Morris Chestnut will star in this CBS medical tv series whose synopsis says, "In WATSON, a year after the death of his friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty, Dr. John Watson (Chestnut) resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders. Watson's old life isn't done with him, though - Moriarty and Watson are set to write their own chapter of a story that has fascinated audiences for more than a century. WATSON is a medical show with a strong investigative spine, featuring a modern version of one of history's greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries."

STAR TREK: PRODIGY---co-producer Dan Hageman commented on a possible Season 3, “The end of Season 1 we think is great. End of Season 2 is equally great, and it has this place where it feels like it wraps up. It really wraps everything you want out of Seasons 1 and 2, but really opens the door to what Season 3 potentially could be. Whether that hits now, or in five years, or whenever the time is right, it’ll feel natural, which I’m really happy about.”

TRIVIA---in THE WILD WILD WEST, the opening animation has a woman who tapped Secret Service agent Jim West with her parasol and they kiss while she pulls out a knife to stab West, but she is mesmerized by his kiss and slumps down. When the series switched to color, the animation was changed to West hitting the woman after she pulls out the knife.
In fact, West never hit a woman during the entire history of the series. In the episode "The Night of the Running Death", West did hit a woman, but she was really a male assassin disguised as woman.

As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.”

ALIEN---the FX sci fi series released more details on the cast and their characters. Sydney Chandler will play meta-human Wendy, who has an adult body and a child's mind. Timothy Olyphant will play synth Kirsh, Wendy's mentor. Moe Bar-El will play a "major recurring character".

THE ORVILLE---Seth MacFarlane commented on the future of the sci fi tv series, “All I can tell you is that there is no official death certificate for THE ORVILLE. It is still with us. I can’t go any further than that at the moment. There are too many factors.”
Scott Grimes added, "I do know that we are still talking about it. It’s not dead in any sort of way whatsoever. It’s just about when, where and how and building the stuff again. I’m excited because it’s one of the greatest things to work on. So I just have my fingers crossed. And I know Seth wants to do it and that usually holds a lot of power. And I hope he gets to because it’s one of his babies that he just loves and it’s a blast to work on.”

WINNIE THE POOH: BLOOD AND HONEY 2---photo released from the sequel. Director Rhys Frake-Watefield commented on the sequel, “Bigger and Badder. The sequel will feature new creature designs, a new cast, and a high death count. However, this time Pooh and friends will be leaving the 100 Acre Wood to take their fight to the quiet community of Ashdown."

HARLEY QUINN---James Gunn commented on Margot Robbie possibly returning as Harley Quinn, "I haven’t talked to Margot about Harley for a long time. But I’d love to work with her again as Harley or as someone else. There are no plans at this time for anyone else to play Harley (I mean, other than in Todd’s movie or the animated show/s.)"

THE WHITE LOTUS---Carrie Coons is in talks to join the cast in an undisclosed role for Season 3.

AMERICAN BORN CHINESE---Disney+ cancelled the series even though it has a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score.

TRIVIA---in the early 1990s, Tom Pollock, head of Universal Pictures, approached John Carpenter about a remake of a Universal movie. Carpenter said, “He said, ‘Look though our library of pictures, and see if there’s anything you want to make.' The first thought that came to mind was CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.”
Carpenter looked at the script written by Nigel Kneale (QUATERMASS) for John Landis' 1980s cancelled remake, “Nigel wrote a very interesting script, but it was written for 3D. It was also written 10 years ago, and things have changed since then...We’re going to start from the beginning, but we may use aspects of Nigel’s work. He wrote some pretty neat scenes, but we’re going to redo them.”
Carpenter had earlier worked with Kneale on HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH, and Carpenter found Kneale to be "mean" and "irascible" when Carpenter wanted script changes. Consequently, Carpenter chose the TRADING PLACES team of Timothy Harris and Herschel Weingrod to write the script. Carpenter said, “There are several possible aspects to the storyline. One of them involves the Creature being the missing link between man and fish. It would be interesting to combine that with creationist scientists, who are trying to prove that man walked with dinosaurs 10,000 years ago. They try to prove the literal, Biblical origin of life – in total contradiction of scientific fact...I would also love to work in a little Lovecraftian feel. I’m thinking of The Shadow Over Innsmouth – fish mating with humans. There has been a legend about this man//fish, so perhaps there was a race of them, living in the Amazon. Supposedly, there are hidden pyramids in the Amazon, so I want to try to get that in there.”
Carpenter chose Academy Award-winning makeup artist Rick Baker to design the new Gill-man. Baker said, “We actually did a whole bunch of designs and maquettes. My designs for the Creature were kind of like my designs for the Wolf Man; it was very much based on a love for the original material, and trying to stay true to that in a lot of ways. I think we had a creature that was updated, but you could still tell where it came from.”
However, Carpenter's 1992 MEMOIRS OF AN INVISIBLE MAN was a box office bomb and led to the cancellation of Carpenter's CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.
