I know the value of money is not what it was but from 10 billion to 168 billion doesn't seem right.

ROBOCOP---Paul Verhoeven commented on the 2014 remake of his 1987 ROBOCOP, “The problem there, I felt, was that he was really aware that he lost all his legs and arms. He knows it from the very beginning.
The beautiful thing about the original ROBOCOP, what makes it not just pure tragedy or whatever, is that he really does not know anymore. He gets a couple of vague flashes of memory when he goes to his old house, but RoboCop is not a tragic figure.
Yes, he’s killed in the most horrible way in the beginning. But when we see him again as a robot, he doesn’t feel that. In the new one, because he remembers everything, he’s much more tragic.
We wanted you to accept him at the beginning as a robotic cop. That’s what they did to him. In my opinion, I thought it was a problem to make him more tragic.”
He also said about the remake of TOTAL RECALL, “I felt it had a lot of special effects, but this mystery – is it true or is it not true? – I just didn’t feel that anymore. The interesting thing about the original movie is that at the end, when Rachel Ticotin says, ‘Well, kiss me quick before you wake up,’ you still don’t really know if it’s real.”

THE LAST OF US---Nick Offerman said a Bill and Frank prequel spinoff has been discussed, "Oh, great question but I would have to ask somebody with a higher pay grade than myself. It certainly has been pitched. I think we pitched a whole mini-series of a prequel of their lives before they met each other. It could be a musical. We’re not short on ideas. We’ll just we’ll see what Craig [Mazin] and [creator] Neil [Druckmann] come up with.”
He joked about how he was cast as Bill, “Oh sure. I was lucky this time. They needed a guy who could use a shovel. Three of us in Hollywood, Harrison Ford passed and Jane Lynch was not available.”

I think that was in the eighties. Yeah. And I was disappointed that I didn’t get it. Not as disappointed as I was not getting the role in the first COMING TO AMERICA, but that actually turned out pretty good. Because I think if I had gotten the role that I would have been in television more than film, and maybe would have been never got a chance to do everything else I’ve done.”
He said he came close to getting the role, “Yes. That’s how I remember it. Yeah. It was close. But yeah, a greater actor than I went on to make it famous. I applaud him, my friend, great and wonderful.”

NATIONAL TREASURE 3---Nicolas Cage commented on a second sequel, “They’re a lot of fun. I mean, I enjoy them too, and I think Jon Turteltaub made a couple of classic films for the whole family. I’m still kind of amazed that Disney hasn’t wanted to make a third one.
I thought the movies brought a lot of joy to the public, and it’s certainly interesting about history, and I think all of that is worthwhile filmmaking.
You can dig deep and go into the more abstract stuff, like BRINGING OUT THE DEAD, or PIG or even DREAM SCENARIO, or you can open it up and make a movie that pleases a lot of people and hopefully gives families a chance to escape a little bit from whatever may be going on at home or in the office. I think they’re all valid.”

NATIONAL-TREASURE-FOTOR.png

MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS---showrunner Chris Black commented on a possible Season 2, “We do not have a Season 2 order. This show has done very well, so we’re optimistic and excited. We feel we have more story to tell.”
He commented on timelines, "I think we really like the idea of running parallel timelines. I think it worked as a conceit in the first [season], and Monarch, as we said, has a long history, there are other eras to explore.
If Monarch runs from the late-1940s to the present day, what was it like in the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s…? As a mechanism to tell the history of Monarch and the Randa family within it, I personally enjoyed it. I would love, if we are given the opportunity, to exploit it more. I thought it was fun.”
Black discussed possible monsters for a Season 2, "Moving into a potential second season, there are a lot of other great [monsters]. There’s Kong, there’s Rodan, Mothra…. And Toho has a deep bench, too, of lesser-known characters – Ebirah, Biollante, Hedorah…. It could be any of these characters.”

STAR WARS: NEW JEDI ORDER---Daisy Ridley commented on the upcoming sequel in which Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy persuaded her to return as Rey, “So I thought about it for a little bit, and once I knew what the story was and everything, I knew it was something I really wanted to do. I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the STAR WARS world. It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”
However, a "well-informed source" claims NEW JEDI ORDER has been "indefinitely" delayed due to creative differences between writer Steven Knight and Lucasfilm which led to Lucasfilm's recent announcement of THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU movie.

THE LAST OF US---HBO's Casey Bloys hinted about Season 2, “It’s great. It is bigger, gets into questions of retribution and revenge, it follows the video game and has big themes, big action."

THE SOPRANOS---on the 25th anniversary of THE SOPRANOS, creator David Chase said the Golden Age of tv is over as reflected by tv streamers more concerned with profits than quality, “Yes, this is the 25th anniversary, so of course it’s a celebration, but perhaps we shouldn’t look at it like that. Maybe we should look at it like a funeral….We’re going back to where I was. They’re going to have commercials.”
Chase said when pitching new projects, he “already been told to dumb it down”.

AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM---Dolph Lundgren commented on Warner Bros.' reshoots, "I just realized that it was some kind of corporate decision that they try to limit Amber Heard and then I’m playing with her dad and went along with it.
I was just disappointed for the moviegoers, because I thought the original script was great and the original cut — I saw a little bit of it, it was really good, so I didn’t see any reason to start reshooting and reshaping the story, which obviously led to disappointment in the moviegoers and not just me.”

ANACONDA---the Sony Pictures remake of the 1997 movie will reportedly be a meta remake which "will feature known actors playing heightened versions of themselves starring in a new Anaconda movie when things take a turn for the real." The original movie starred Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight and Eric Stoltz.

TRIVIA---Clint Eastwood is perhaps the greatest Western star in movie history and acted in or directed the Academy Award-winning UNFORGIVEN, HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, the classic spaghetti Western the Man with No Name trilogy and the RAWHIDE tv series.
Ironically, Eastwood is actually allergic to horses and must limit the time spent riding them. He is also allergic to other animals such as cats, dogs and including Clyde the orangutan in EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE.

HIGHLANDER---director Chad Stahelski announced that Lionsgate has greenlit the remake of the 1986 fantasy movie that will star Henry Cavill, “I am pleased to be able to grow my relationship with Lionsgate in this new oversight role for the JOHN WICK universe and its further expansion. JOHN WICK is so close to my heart and to be able to continue shepherding it will be a blast for me. I’m so happy to also be launching another franchise with HIGHLANDER, a world that is so rich with engaging stories to be told.”
The original movie starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery.

STAR-WARS-2-FOTOR.png

A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE---co-star Alex Wolff commented on the spinoff movie ,“That’s not a horror movie, not really. I might get in trouble for saying that. It’s from the director of PIG, this film I did, so it’s very… It’s more a drama. It’s weird going from a $2 million movie to a $100 million movie, and working with the same director and in the same proximity [as the other actors]. There’s only about four or five characters in it. So it was kinda like making PIG, just on a massive scale.”

PLAY DIRTY---Mark Wahlberg and LaKeith Stanfield will star in this Shane Black movie based on Donald E. Westlake's Parker novels. The movie plot involves a professional thief and a con artist who team up to take on a South American dictator, the New York mob and the world's richest man.

ALIEN---Noah Hawley said the FX tv series will have multiple seasons instead of being a miniseries, "With LEGION, I had what felt like a three-act structure to it that I didn't know if that would be three seasons or five seasons, or whatever it was, but I sort of knew what a beginning, middle, and end was. And here, similarly, I knew that their desire was for a recurring series, not a limited series, and I had an idea that I was excited about, that I could see the escalation of it from one year to another. That's where we ended up not pitching them having a bible or pitching them blow-by-blow, but saying, “Big picture: this is the first movement, this is the second movement, and we're ultimately going here.”

THE COMPLETELY MADE-UP ADVENTURES OF DICK TURPIN---synopsis released for the Apple TV+ comedy series, “In the series, Dick Turpin (Noel Fielding) sets out on a journey of wildly absurd escapades when he’s made the reluctant leader of a band of outlaws — and tasked with outwitting corrupt lawman and self-appointed thief-taker Jonathan Wilde (Hugh Bonneville). In this irreverent retelling set in the 18th century, Turpin is the most famous but least likely of highway robbers, whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship, and great hair. Together with his gang of lovable rogues, Turpin rides the highs and lows of his new endeavors, including a brush with celebrity, all whilst trying to escape the clutches of the thief-taker.”

DRAGO---Dolph Lundgren commented on the status of the CREED spinoff movie, “MGM was developing the script called DRAGO about my character and my son. I think what happened was the studio changed leadership, and then Creed III did very well, so they started preparing for Creed IV. This is last year, and then now there is a problem with a co-star in CREED IV. That storyline they had on the DRAGO script was interesting, it was kind of a coming to America, kind of immigration angle, with me and the son, and it was pretty cool."
He added, “It just so happened that, in CREED II, we’re in the Ukraine, in the beginning, we’re in Kyiv. That’s where the movie opens, even though it’s not really mentioned too much. But in the version of the script that I read, it starts with a Russian invasion, and in that, we go through some hard, difficult experiences that makes us want to come to America. It was kind of interesting.”

BILL AND TED 4---co-star Alex Winter commented on the status of the fourth movie in the franchise, "We’re tinkering with a fourth movie idea that all of us like, and the guys are going to write, so we’ll see. It takes us time to get these things going, and we never want to do them unless they’re great.
They [writers Ed Solomon, Chris Matheson and co-star Keanu Reeves] feel the same way, it has to be right. We love [the BILL AND TED movies] because they’re oddball, and they’re not typical mainstream films. They’ve never been cash-grab movies; nobody has gotten rich off the BILL AND TED series. We really do make them sincerely from a place of love and interest.
There’s a really good idea that the writers came up with for a fourth that’s kind of obvious. I don’t want to give it away — I can’t give it away because I would be drawn and quartered — but it is a really good idea, an obvious idea. It will get written, and we’ll see if we can actually get it made.”

TRIVIA---Herbert Lom, Donald Pleasence and Sarah Maur Thorp co-starred in two 1989 movies based on novels written by famous authors. Lom, Pleasence and Thorp were in RIVER OF DEATH based on the Alistair MacLean novel in which an expedition travels to the Amazon jungle to investigate an incurable disease and discover World War II Nazis in a lost Inca city. Lom, Pleasence and Thorp reunited for TEN LITTLE INDIANS based on the Agatha Christie novel in which ten strangers are invited to the African jungle by a mysterious host where they are killed off one by one.

ARGYLLE---Matthew Vaughn denied rumors that the spy movie, which stars Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard, is based on the novel that was really written by Taylor Swift.
The novel's movie rights sold for $200 million, and author Elly Conway's real identity has been a mystery for several years. Current rumors claim Conway is a pseudonym for Taylor Swift.
Vaughn said, “I’m not a big internet guy, and it was actually my daughter who came up to me – this is the power of celebrity and the internet – and said, ‘You never told me Taylor wrote the book!’ and I’m looking at her going, ‘What are you talking about Taylor Swift wrote the book? She didn’t write the book!’ And I was laughing because I was like, ‘It’s not true! She didn’t write the book!’ But my daughter was convinced of it.
There is a real book … and it’s a really good book, and there is an Elly Conway who wrote the book, but it’s not Taylor Swift. And I say that because I imagine Taylor Swift has a load of people trying to jump on her bandwagon left, right, and center. I don’t want to be a part of that club. I did read the conspiracies and I was like, ‘Wow, they don’t leave a stone unturned!’ But it’s not Taylor Swift. She definitely didn’t write the book.”

TRIVIA---in STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN, Judson Scott played Joachim, "the largest and brightest of Khan's group". However, Scott is not listed in the sequel's credits. Scott said a "foul up" caused his absence in the credits when his agents asked that he be billed with the main WRATH OF KHAN characters at the beginning of the sequel and Paramount Pictures refused. His agents tried the ploy in which they waived billing in which they thought waived billing meant being listed in the end credits instead of the beginning credits, but it really meant no billing at all. Scott laughed about his absence, "I went to the movie and I went…WOW, I know that was me!"
Scott did return to the STAR TREK franchise in STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION and STAR TREK: VOYAGER where he did appear in the credits.

REACHER---Alan Ritchson commented on Season 3, “We’ve picked it up, it’s chosen. It’s a good choice, I gotta say. I think we’ve been very creative about how we’ve sequenced the type of story.
We felt we needed a book that was more Reacher alone for the third season. And so it was a question of which story would work best for that, and which one would have a great opening scene and all that, and we found one that we loved.”

CLIFFHANGER 2---Renny Harlin commented on the sequel, “To be honest, I’ve tried for decades. I always felt the movie was hugely successful, and it was crazy that there wasn’t a sequel. There was more story to tell. Now, of course, it’s a long time later, so I have no idea what kind of a story they are planning to tell or what Sly’s role in it is. But I wish them the best of luck.
I hope they don’t try to replace what we did with a lot of CG. Because I think the audience will be able to tell that we did everything for real. We shot at 12,000-foot peaks in the Italian Alps. It was real stuff, like the opening sequence with the girl falling. It was done for real. That was at 8,000 feet, that wire.
It’s so easy for the studios to say now, ‘We’ll do everything blue screen and create everything digitally.’ I hope they don’t do that because it deserves a sequel with the same spirit of the original.”

ZULU---January 22, 2024 is the 145th anniversary of the Battle of Rorke's Drift in which about 150 British soldiers defended their remote outpost from about 4,000 Zulu warriors. Edwards commented on his ZULU salary compared to his Kellogg's Bran Flakes tv commercial, "I earned 10 times as much money from advertising Bran Flakes as I did from the movie ZULU."

Clint Eastwood was a great Western star But John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda were great also plus many more.
Mark
Eastwood certainly deserves his place as a great western star, but as long as John Wayne is in the conversation, Wayne is #1 and everyone else is running for 2nd place. -- Al
