My JJD WWII BH (Bunker Hill) Carrier Collection (1 Viewer)

Very nice setup Mike. Chris

Thanks Chris . . . . I would say that both of us have created a couple of very nice looking display areas for our Corsairs . . . . Like you, I am really looking forward to collecting the first pilot figure . . .

Mike/Roberto...
I'm not a plane buff...
but you guys got it going on...
very attractive displays!

Corsairs arrived today!
Now to figure out the decking!

Zach . . . I have 6 of the BH deck plates and altogether they make a diorama base that is roughly 30-inches x 30-inches square. I have done the same thing for my JJD Interwar Aviation USS Saratoga display (6 deck plates @ about 30-inches square). I have both displays on a 6-foot x 3-foot table. 3 deck plates would fit nicely on a 3-foot x 2-foot table which is what I believe you said you wanted to try. However, if you decide on 6 deck plates you would need a table at least 3-foot square. Congrats on collecting both Corsairs . . . aren't they just gorgeous . . . .

Thanks Mike . . . . When the Conquistadors make their appearance I'll lend my two Corsairs to your beautiful collection of Aztecs . . .

I just unpacked them this morning. I absolutely love the magnetic feature. So many options with these!

Anyone know if the wings can come off once they are on? If not, I can throw away the boxes 😀

Zach, this is a question that Moe and I had early on the forum under the JJD WWII April releases. I think that once the wings are attached to the fuselage and teh retention forks are engaged it would take some effort or ingenuity to remove them. Of course I don't have any plans to do so. However, if it became necessary to repack the model in its original box this might be an issue. I think if you slide the wings as far off the retention fork as possible you could then use a needle nosed pliers to depress the fork enough to remove the wing. That would definitely take some patience and care so that the retention fork wouldn't break. I hate to throw boxes away . . .

I generally never toss boxes, I was just thinking that if they won’t go back in, I can for once experience the joy of throwing them away! 😀

I hear you Zach, but from my experience (and attending all the shows w/ George) ... KEEP THE BOX!

Even if the plane will not fit back into the box, many collectors will assign some intrinsic value to having the box to accompany the plane.
I must include myself in that group, maybe a bit of O.C.D. going on here ... :redface2:

I have passed on a few items simply because there was no box. Luckily, I have been able to hunt up authentic K&C / JJD boxes to fit the series or figure (THANK YOU, JULIE!!)

... now I gotta' go color coordinate all my white shirts in the closet .... {sm2}

Perhaps we should contact Jenkins about this. It really does appear that "the marriage";) of inner and outer wings is permanent once the retention mechanism is engaged. One workaround would be to break the teeth off of the ends of the arm, but then the outer wing could slip off (sort of like a prop off of a KC model) with damaging results. BTW, the magnets make that far less likely to occur with the wings deployed and seated. Again, however, the ultimate authority is in HK.:D

As far as the box is concerned, it might be possible to modify the foam padding to accommodate the model with the outer wings attached. I'm gonna save mine against that possibility. For our other readers, one of the reasons that we three are having this discussion is because the boxes are quite large by Jenkins' standards. Storing them will be a minor burden, space-wise. That, and owners who shed the boxes will need to make provision for storing unused parts for the alternate configuration!

I took a look at this, and it appears that the results are a mixed bag.

I was thinking that the box and inserts might be deep enough to accommodate the model with the wings assembled and erect.

This turned out to be incorrect on a couple of counts.

I found that both the box AND insert bay are too shallow to fit the assembled model safely (or really at all).

However, the foam inserts from TWO of the models can be COMBINED to create a bay deep enough for ONE of the models with the wings in the up-position.

While this remedy offers no relief to owners of one of the models, it does afford those with a pair of Corsairs a reasonable materials option for future shipping.:D

Dear fellow collectors,

The wings of the Corsair can be attached and detached easily. I have done it more than twice already on each model, no issues. Just need a firm hand and grip. Please make sure you remove all other accessories first before removing the wings.

I wish my carrier decks and crew are in Shenzhen with me but they are all back in Singapore. So, I can only post some pics of how they look together on my dining table. They look magnificent and amazing, and they really up the game: foldable wings, ability to display in flight or on deck, wires at the tail section. Just need to buy pilots, seated or walking around and that's it. But, I am sure you will enjoy them as much as I do.

Chris, do the wings need to be in a particular attitude when you pull on them? When I pull on one (with the outer wing more or less level with the inner wing), it catches on the hooks after just a few inches. Am I somehow misinterpreting what I’m seeing?

Moe,
I find that I just have to pull it straight out, and not try to angle it in any way. I do have one wing that is slightly tight initially. But it does not seem to be an issue any more. Everything is still intact, nothing broken or loose. The worst thing to do is to misalign them when trying to put them into the hole slot. Once in, I find that a firm grasp and pulling on it brings the wing out. Don't need to do any tugging or sudden moves, those are actually worse...

Thanks Chris...that's great to know.

For other interested parties, I heard back from Jenkins this morning as quoted below:

The wings are removable, it just needs a gentle tug.
I suggest taking all the other bits off the model, then hold the wings at their bases and give a gentle tug.
Make sure the sudden release does not make either part of the model jerk and hit something in the release.

So, I guess we should save the packaging!:redface2:

For those who are thinking about upping their knowledge on the Pacific WWII Naval Action ... check this one out.

Book is in MINT condition, the DJ has a little bit of wear.
But I got it off EBay for only $9.00 + Free S&H. More still there.
613 pages / Hard cover / Looks like great information in the Appendices.

ONCE AGAIN ... Thank you Al and Moe!

Hope you enjoy it, Larry. It's an eye-opener. As a matter of interest, I just picked up Tully's book 'Battle of the Surigao Strait'. -- Al
