My JJD WWII BH (Bunker Hill) Carrier Collection (1 Viewer)

Dies anyone produce this image and maybe a wider version to cover a wider dispkay?

I believe that there's a bit of a limitation in that the TF forum interface limits image dimensions to 1500x1000 pixels. To increase the width, simply open the file in a graphics editor (like MSPaint on your computer) and resize it by increasing the pixel width. If need be, you can take the file to a place like Office Depot and they can print it out for you.

Thus thread has been fun and expensive!
Really lije the look of the background of the carrier’s “island”

Thanjs in advance and...
Keep up the great work!

Hello Egonzinc,
Are you referring to the photograph of the Carrier's "Island" that Mike shows in his photos?

If yes, then you should be able to do a search and get some photos or reference a book on the USS Bunker Hill. She was one of 24 US Carriers of the Essex Class built during WWII. So a search on "Essex Class Carriers" should produce the photo you want. As me said, when you find a photo you (SHOULD) be able to go to a print store and have them expand and reproduce it to cover a much wider area of a diorama.

I am not sure in Puerto Rico what options are available. Another option is to make a USS Carrier Island out of cardboard, balsa wood, plastic or something similar. That is my goal, but I don't know how how hard that will be .. yet.:rolleyes2:

In addition there are many Graphic Print web sites that offer a huge variety of backdrops that can simply be downloaded and run off on a printer.

See: www.GreatBigCanvas.com for only example. Another is www.wallpaperswide.com

Many downloads are free, but a few only cost a few dollars.

As Moe mentioned, TreeFrog has a nasty limit on the image size that can be uploaded onto its servers, so trying to photograph a HUGE image might be a bit tricky.

Hope this helps.

PS: I just Googled "Essex Class Island" and found 1000's of images that can be used as a reference. Some are very detailed and (may) be able to to used right off the printer ...

Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Very in depth look at IJN tactics and carrier air operations. Chris

Thanks guys.
There are thoysands of images, but none even close to the one used as background in the post.
Thought maybe that one would be available somewhere. It is a great image that even looks 3D.
But if I decide on a carrier display, I will try to do a schematic, generic, "island" piece.
Still not sure if I can incorporate the BH bases in my display area...
Thanks again!

Sorry, I was out of pocket when I am across your post yesterday. Didn't have anything but an iPhone to respond with. Look here (page 10):

The thread explains the source of the pic and it's genesis.

Here's a slightly different version of the same pic:

As I mentioned, to enlarge it, simply resize it by increasing the pixel width and height. Be advised that the image will pixilate as you do so, and will lose definition progressively.

Delivered to my door step this afternoon were BH-2 USMC Lt. Dean Caswell, BH-26L Pilot Seated Looking Left, and BH-26R Pilot Seated Looking Right. All very nicely done figures especially that of Lt. Caswell . . . .

Putting this here for all those interested in WW2 carrier ops, especially those of you who are interested in Midway from both sides. These are 2 websires of great interest and use: www.midway42.org - A superb roundtable group that includes vets and many authors of the battle, lots of great info, books, etc. The other website is www.combinedfleet.com - THE source for the Japanese fleet, in all aspects. I'm sure these have been posted before but here they are again in case we have new collectors who might be unaware of them. -- Al
