My King & Country Acquisitions Blitz (2 Viewers)

All of those dioramas are works-in-progress with the Battle of the Bulge being the most complete, but needing more Germans. The D-Day diorama also needs more Germans and the JG Miniatures Beach Mat For Landing Craft which is on back order from Treefrog. The Battle of Tarawa needs more Japanese and the beach sea wall that I am having made for me by a friend of mine who can do this sort of stuff, unlike me.

These are photos of the King & Country AFVs that I have temporarily displayed in the new bookcase by subject matter: Afrika Korps, Eight Army, US Army, Waffen SS, German Panzer Grey, and Fields of Battle. When the new curio arrives I will rearrange everything.

Great collections, particularly like the Ranger set which I have started to collect. BTW, my son completed a tour as an instructor at the Ranger school earlier this yr. :salute:: Chris

Chris, I also like the new Ranger sets. I also have a number of earlier D-Day sets that I am not displaying in this diorama since I am sticking with the Rangers exclusively (e.g., DD028 Casualties, DD036 Covering Fire, DD047 On The Beach A., and DD048 On The Beach B). I do also have the earlier releases DD108 British Assault Landing Craft 711 and DD138 LCVP Landing Craft PA26-22 which obviously won't fit in that diorama. I may ultimately decide to sell the six last mentioned sets, as they are redundant.

I bet you are proud of your Ranger son. I wasn't tough enough to be a Ranger when I enlisted in the Army when I was 19-years-old (I weighed 155 pounds and was very near sighted with astigmatism), but I was smart enough to be in Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) where those physical limitations didn't matter.

We recently returned from a three week vacation during August to Ireland and Scotland, so I only added one set to my collection last month. However, I had two more acquisition groups in July which I have not posted photos of as to date. Somehow, I deleted group six when I was clearing my SD card for the vacation, but I do have group seven. These are the photos of my seventh group of acquisitions.

An Acquisitions Blitz is exciting. I did one in 2009 - 2010 when I began collecting WWII K&C. I was lucky and was able to track down the older pieces just as prices were beginning to go up rapidly. A few items I got were pricey - even more than prices for them today. Aside from those dozen or so pricey items, most were cheap by today's standards and of course there were far fewer models in 2010. Hats off to you Mike - I couldn't do an Acquisitions Blitz today.

I noticed you have WS224-2 (202) it looks complete when it's used with WS224-1 (201) and WS224-3 (204)

Good luck with your purchases enjoyed my time hunting those older K&C vehicles

Wayne,

They were made to go as a group and in your case grey.

Do like that bridge

Terry,

You are right about an Acquisitions Blitz being exciting. I have mostly succeeded in not going overboard on buying excessively pricey items. So far, I have not paid more than $200 for a set. At this point in time, I have acquired almost 100 Wheels and Tracks sets and probably the same number or more of infantry, artillery, landing craft, and backdrops. I have almost come to the end of picking up older, retired sets with a couple of exceptions. I am still looking for a reasonably priced EA043 British M3 Grant Tank and a WS079 Hummel Self-Propelled 155mm Howitzer.

Mark,

I picked up a WS224-1 (201) in my first or second group of acquisitions. I bought the WS224-2 (202) with an eye to possibly converting it to the Hungarian, Romanian, or Slovak T-38 versions which fought on the Eastern Front. All three Axis Satellite Powers operated T-38s in panzer grey at some point in time, so it would be a matter of adding the appropriate decals for the most part. Actually, if I had my druthers, I would like to convert it to a LT-38 Slovak tank in the original three-color Czechoslovak camouflage dark green, ochre yellow and earth brown.

My new Pulaski curio arrived last week, so I have been in the process of moving the AFV sets from their temporary display shelves in the bookcase to the curio. The curio (80 X 43 X 16 inches) only came with five shelves, but I have ordered two additional shelves which should be ready to pick up by the end of the week.

The curio's first shelf displays King & Country Afrika Korps sets in photos one and two. The second shelf displays Eighth Army sets in photos three and four. The space third from the left is reserved for a future EA043 M3 Grant Tank acquisition.

In the bin mate, the new cabinet is nice.

No, I can't do that! Where there is a will, there is a way. Thanks, it is called an Eden House Curio which has a two-way sliding front door. I'll never make the mistake again of buying a large curio with side openings---it is too hard to access items in the middle of the shelves.

The curio's third shelf, photos one and two, displays U.S. Army vehicles while the fourth shelf, photos three and four, displays Waffen SS series vehicles.
