My Leuthen collection - it's starting to come together......... (1 Viewer)

Hi Roy ,
Thanks for taking the time out to share your conversions, I think they are superbly done {bravo}} one really can't tell them from the original poses although some show some pretty drastic changes in position{bravo}}{bravo}}{bravo}} . I had the gate preordered and was told it arrived I hope to have it by next weekend. I will also just have a display of stock figures but I'm really looking forward to displaying mine . Again thanks for sharing , I'm jealous about your planned trip to the site I just can't make myself go to Poland since last time when someone tried to steal my rental . Thanks again regards Gebhard

Hi Gebhard,

Thank you for for your kind comments on my conversions! The gate is wonderful, it looks as if someone has just taken it from the painting! Looking forward to seeing your display soon. Not sure exactly when I'll be able to go,but I'm quite fortunate in that I live quite near to Stansted Airport. Low cost flights go there to Wroclaw, and Leuthen ( now Lutynia ) is I believe only about 5miles from there. Sorry to hear of your experience out there - I hope I have better luck!

All the best, Roy.

Bill,
Could you explain a little about how you were able to convert these.
Mark

Hi Mark,

I wish I'd thought to have taken some pics whilst I was converting! Some of the conversions were just a re-angling of the figure on it's stand. ( as in LEUT1, I bent 1 figure back, the other figure forward. )
This also applies to most of LEUT2.
I have also manipulated arms and legs to some extent. I razor saw a Cut into the back of the leg then carve a V into it. then you can bend the leg back to desired position. Also applies to arms - razor cut to inside of elbow
carve out a vee and bend forward. I have also sawn off hands and arms and re-positioned ( drill hole in arm and hand / arm and body and use a pin to strengthen the join. Also have taken figure off the stand and just re-positioned it - Leut04B the fallen figure - is the complete figure taken off stand and positioned lying on floor.
For all the joins I have used Araldite Rapid 2 part adhesive. If you use the right amount there is no need for any filler! Oh. also have sawn a hat off and had to re-sculp some of the top of the head

It took a bit of a leap of faith on my part, but once I had tried the first one it became a bit of an addiction!

Hope you can make sense of that lot..........

Cheers! Roy.

Also I hope to visit the Churchyard in Poland for a closer look!

Thank you John, I'll certainly post pics! The trip will not be for a couple of months or so - waiting for the warmer weather! There is a nice piece on a trip here:http://goldensuninn.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04/visit-to-leuthen-5th-december-2009.html Cheers! Roy.

Nice progress on your Leuthen collection, Bill! But where is Captain Möllendorf (the future field marshall)? He is the officer featured in the center of Röchling's painting, holding his spontoon and exhorting his men through the breach. I don't know if John has issued him yet.

I was very excited by the announcement of this series, and Frontline's Seven Years War line, as a fan of the period. There hasn't been much new covering the European theater for many years, apart from kits, and not many new kits at that.

Prost!

Many thanks for that Brad. The officer hasn't been released yet - my men are crying out for a leader! I was hoping that possibly the officer may be released with the running NCO as a command set? I was really interested in your information about the officer - fascinating! The Leuthen series is my first venture into the Seven Years War period. I've read a few general books about the 7yrs war in Europe ( and I have the Osprey Leuthen book ). Could you recommend any books that specifically mention the action at Leuthen - especially the attack on the Churchyard?

Cheers! Roy.

Didn't John say how many figures this range will be.I'm just curious

I don't have any specific titles myself, on the battle, though I do recommend Christopher Duffy's "The Army of Frederick the Great", if you don't already have it. It's an excellent book on Frederick's army, and is very well annotated. I'll have to check my references, though, for specific titles, though I imagine that a lot of them are in German. Now that I think of it, I do also have Engelmann & Dorn's "The Battles of Frederick the Great" ("Die Schlachten Friedrichs des Grossen") which includes a map, order of battle, text description and their water-color illustrations, for each of his major battle. I'll check the chapter on Leuthen and see what there is.

The battle became iconic in the Prussian and later Imperial German army, and among German historians. It's considered the finest example of the Oblique Order in action, and also a significant victory over a tough opponent. Frederick's army had just defeated the French and Imperial army in Saxony at Rossbach, but the Austrians had defeated the army Frederick left behind in Silesia, so their morale was high, and they were well-sited in a good defensive position. It was perhaps Fritz' greatest victory.

Prost!

Thank you very much for your help Brad! I shall look out for the Christopher Duffy book. I have read "Frederick the Great & the Seven years War" by F.W. Longman and am now about three quarters through "Frederick The Great"by David Fraser - a biography, but which has very good overall descriptions of his battles included. I had intended to just do the Leuthen series, but I think I may be sucked into any other 7yrs war Europe lines John may bring out. ( Those new French Infantry sculpts look very nice.......)

Cheers! Roy.

I'm not sure, but I seem to remember " at least 19 Grenadier figures based on the painting" being quoted around the release of the first few figures.

Has anyone else heard anything more?

Cheers, Roy.

Hi Roy ,
my pleasure they really are excellent {bravo}} .That would be very nice if you could get a cheap flight and be only 5 miles away , getting a rental car company to allow you to drive into Poland is not easy . I have had a bad experiences with theft , and had a window broken a few years ago on my unkles BMW while driving the misses there so she could buy cheap pottery maybe it was the German tags . Anyway sounds like it would be a Great visit .
I would also highly recommend Duffy's book also his two volumes on Austria during the 7YW are also not to be missed . regards Gebhard

Oh dear........... A bit of a "Senior moment" ! I think it was a case of just finishing work and breaking up for the Easter Holidays ( Hooray! ) Goodness, Stephen Duffy - he was an '80s pop star wasn't he?

Thanks for putting me straight!

Cheers, Roy.

My Luthen Gate has arrived today, and I'm wrapped with it.....

couldn't wait to post my Grenadiers in front, and post an image....

luthen door.JPG

I also needed to add some Austrian defenders on the wall, so I've used a couple of Tradition of London figures on the right side.

I still don't have the 2 latest firing figures, nor the new wall pieces, but that's all to come and then a bigger base too !! :) :)

John

That looks great John spewing i missed the visit, next week will pop over for a gander.
