My Luthen Gate has arrived today, and I'm wrapped with it.....

couldn't wait to post my Grenadiers in front, and post an image....

View attachment 125860

I also needed to add some Austrian defenders on the wall, so I've used a couple of Tradition of London figures on the right side.

I still don't have the 2 latest firing figures, nor the new wall pieces, but that's all to come and then a bigger base too !! :) :)

John

Great picture John - the Gate really is something special isn't it. Good to see some Austrians on it - even better to see those "special two" Grenadiers beating on the gate!

Roy.

WOW!!!! Roy, that looks amazing! your dedication to this series is impressive.
The walls and Corners should be with you within the next 10 days or so.
Can't wait to see what you do next!

John, looking good too, I'm hoping to do something in line with your collection, but what with all the FIW releases due soon, I am behind with collecting....

This may end up being John's finest range. He has really come into his own. Some great looking figures coming out.

Thanks for the link to JJD UK site.

Its great to see the Austrians at Luthen and the new firing Prussians.

If you check out my image below of my gate you will also see the 2 new Grenadiers breaking down the door :)

John

Hi John, I spotted them right away! ( I did make a "comment" to them earlier.) Can't wait to get mine! What do you think of the marching and firing Prussian
Grenadiers - I think they would be wonderful. I hope John does go ahead with them. I would certainly buy multiples of those.

Roy.

More Prussian poses are welcome and I think will be very popular. I do suggest, however, that the bases could be painted in a dirt/mud color for more diversity. You can always cover them with some artificial snow for winter campaigns. Tougher to cover all white bases.
The sculpting and animation on these figures is top of the line!

Hi James, many thanks - very kind of you! So looking forward to receiving the walls and corners from you. Then I can figure out what sort of dio I can do in the space I have.

Still trying to arrange my trip to Leuthen Church. It all seemed so simple ( Ha Ha.....) :-( But HEY.........I can do this!

Cheers, Roy.

What is the most accurate way to display the turret/gate/wall. Is it corner turret, wall, gateway, wall, corner turret. Or corner turret, gateway, wall, corner turret. Or some other combination? I've seen it modeled in various ways. The best illustration that I see is the Osprey book where it looks like corner turret, gateway, an extended wall and then another corner turret (although this is cut off). Does the corner turret work at both ends or only to the left of the gateway?

The corner turrets work on both sides......facing the gate it looks like the left side wall is shorter than the right.
I will use one wall and the turret on the left and two walls and a turret on the right side.
You can then use a few wall sections to give the compound a little depth, connecting them to the back side of the turrets.
When John completes the Prussian and Austrian figures this will be a great diorama!

I've had a look at GOOGLE maps over the church and the walls in Lutynia, Poland and in the image below you can see that there are turrets on the 4 corners

Looks like a building has been erected on the eastern wall which doesn't show in the paintings.

Therefore you can have a turret on each end of the wall if you like.

It does look as though the gateway behind the church (where the attack took place) is well off center and much closer to the left turret. There is some type of structure to the right of gate now that doesn't appear to have been there during the attack. One model that I saw had a couple of waist high walls extending out from just beyond the gateway to form a type of holding area for horses. It is shown in the Zinnfiguren Museum picture in post #17 of this older thread: http://www.treefrogtreasures.com/forum/showthread.php?37929-New-Leuthen-Structure/page2

Received My two turrets and two of the four walls I ordered yesterday. ( Thank you James and Adam! ) They certainly are wonderful pieces. After looking at the various images available of the Church, I think I will probably go with the Gate side of the walls as : Corner turret - Gateway - wall - wall - wall - wall - Corner turret. Only an appx. estimation but close enough for me in this scale.

I would really love to do the whole Churchyard, but don't have the space! I would guess you would be looking at around 5ft x 3ft ( ish ) and that's without the ground around it in which to place the attacking Prussians!

Hoping the two Grenadiers attacking the door will be in the May releases.............Cheers, Roy.

This is a good representation of the actual gate side of the compound. I am going to add straight walls to the back of the two turrets to show an attack on that side.
John is going to produce some standard attack march and firing Prussians that can be used for the attack on the side (length of the rectangular perimeter) or as reinforcements. I think there are at least 7 or 8 Austrians coming soon.

Sounds good - I aim to have my gateway wall as pictured ( plus the two to come wall sections ) as they are set up, flush against the wall my table is against. I have just ordered another wall section to cut to size for the "gap"
that will be on one side of a turret.

I hope to model the attack on the side wall later using the parts I already have, re-arranged. I have seen and heard several mentions that John MAY consider a " Breached wall" section for this attack. I understand the Grenadiers on the attack this side were a slightly different unit ( ? ) They had Yellow coloured Head wear. Do you think John would model them in these colours?

Hoping John may do more Austrians - a few hand to hand sets for inside the Churchyard would be brilliant!

Cheers, Roy.
