Hi all

This year I decided to start construction on a mountain railway and road diorama which includes two bridges going over a small river. This is a modular dio split into two parts and the overall dimensions are 1700mm Long x 1210mm Wide x 550mm High (around 67 inches Long x 48 inches Wide x 22 inches High).

Most of the dio is made out of hard foam and I used plaster and paris to fill in gaps, smooth out areas etc. I also used some natural rocks in places. The two part dioramas are reasonably light although they are a little awkward to move around due to their sizes.

I made the tunnel out of hard foam then painted and weathered it. The railway bridge is LGB G Gauge and I painted and weathered it. The railway bridge supports I made out of hard foam then painted and weathered them. The road bridge is made by Great North Roads which comes unpainted and unassembled. I put the road bridge together and painted and weathered it. The railings on the road bridge I made out of aluminum rods and I also made the railing supports out of hard foam. I then painted and weathered them. The railway track is Marklin One Gauge and I painted and weathered the track.

The K&C engineer figures, TGM truck and Figarti rail car are there to show you how the dio will look with figures, vehicles and trains in the future.

There's obviously a lot more to do but i'll post more progression pic's once I resume construction after my trip to the US.

Tom

Tom,
I love it. That is incredible. Can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Really impressed with rails.

Really interesting diorama Tom and look forward to updates :cool:

Brilliant work Tom …..

you told me that you would be doing this, but it's beyond what I imagined …. :)

What area is it based in? Eastern Europe, or the Alps, or even in North Africa (going on the dry river bed?

John

The side by side bridges are supberb Tom. You have done some wonderful work and have a terrain board capable of many scenio'scenes. The final paint and placement of vehicles and figures will bring the whole thing to life. Looking forward to seeing the final stage when you return from Chicago. Robin.

Arrrrr so this is where you've been hiding.

Train tracks, a tunnel & bridge, plus a river bed and mountain road.......what more could you want in a dio!

Looks fantastic Tom.:salute::

Thanks John and definitely the Alps or maybe Northern Germany. It'll rain some day and fill up the river! ^&grin

Incredible work, can't wait to see more pics---wow :salute::

You've still got the best WW2 diorama i've seen on the forum. You don't have to outdo yourself but very promising just the same. Regards Greg.

Wow, so intricate and realistic. Beautiful work. Chris

Thanks Chris

Superb work!
Mark

Thanks Mark

Have to broaden the number of forums that I frequent.:redface2:

-Moe

Or just stay on this one Moe :wink2:

Maybe Figarti Railgun :wink2::cool:

Now that would be impressive Neil! I don't have one but even if I did, I doubt it would fit through the tunnel! {eek3}

Incredible work, can't wait to see more pics---wow :salute::

Thanks Mike, there will be more pic's later in the year.

Thanks Greg, that's a big call considering the talent on here. I'm not trying to outdo myself, I have just always wanted to build a dio with a tunnel, mountain, railway, railway bridge, road bridge and a reasonable sized river. To have all these together means I have to build a bloody big dio but I have the time and patience to slowly make it happen.
