My trip to the US! (1 Viewer)

Outstanding collection of holiday snaps Tom, you must have a huge blister on ya camera finger though!^&grin You certainly managed to cover a ton of ground and caught up with loads of folks on your travels by the looks of things. You must have picked up a few TS goodies along the way no doubt.

It's taken me a while to view and read the whole thread, but it was worth it. Hope you post some more pic's soon when you get a chance.

Cheers!

Thanks Toddy and yeah, I purchased a Honour Bound Panther numbered 424 from a private seller at the SA Show. It was still in it's original box and it's in mint condition. I took it back home on the plane as a carry on and each time it went through each of the airport's x-ray it caught the eye of the US TSA blokes!

I'll post some more pic's this weekend, this time from my trip to Tucson to visit Sammy.

Tom

I left San Antonio for Tucson, Arizona and Sammy and his good wife Beth picked me up from the airport. The next day we drove to Tombstone which is around an hours drive from Tucson. I have always wanted to visit this place after reading and watching the movies about Wyatt Earp and his brothers and the famous shoot out at the OK Corral.

Here's some pic's of the Birdcage Theatre, a famous place that the Earp's used to hangout in.

More pic's inside the Birdcage Theatre and some of the artefacts. This is the original bar I'm standing next to and you can see the bullet hole on the right side, about halfway down (just behind me). It was from one of the many shootouts that occurred in the bar back in the day and not from me having a blast with the six shooter! ^&grin

The following pic's are of a re-enactment show that is performed by actors at a re-creation of the OK Corral. It's pretty cool and they put on a good show.

You were lucky you were not caught in the cross fire Tom. Must have been a buzz tramping these streets. Robin.

Here's some more pic's in Tombstone. This is the original bar in the Crystal Palace hotel where the Earp's and all the other blokes from that era sat and drank and had yarns. The big building is the restored Tombsone Courthouse and not far from the main town is the Pebble Hill Cemetery where many of the gun fighters, cowboys and other people from that era are buried.

That's all for now, more pic's of my trip to Sam's neck of the woods coming up over the weekend..

Thanks Chris and i'll be back in the states sooner rather than later so hopefully we can catch up on my next visit.

Thanks also to the people that provided a like.

The next day Sam, Beth, there son and myself all drove up to Mount Lemmon that's above Tuscon which has an elevation of 9,159 feet (2,791 metres). It was an awesome drive and I was amazed to see the scenery change from dry, arid desert landscape with tumbleweed, thistle bush, cactus etc to pine forests, woodlands, greenery etc. The temperature also changes and it's much cooler at the higher elevation. Sam tells me that it snows up at Mount Lemmon during winter and there are ski areas. Quite bizarre I think to have desert down below and snow upstairs, all in the same relative area!

In these last pic's you can see the ski cables for the ski lifts although obviously no snow being as it's summer!

That's all for now but I'll be posting pic's during the week of me and Sam's visit to the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson.

Thomas!!! be glad this was a few weeks ago, temps this weekend and upcoming Monday are near record level heat pushing near 116 degrees here in Tucson, above 120 in Phoenix which will close a lot of travels due to extreme heat, and pavement at the airports softening or melting due to the high temps. crazy.

Wow Sam, that is bloody hot! That's 46 degrees Celsius and above! I'm glad I dropped by while the weather was awesome even though I'm assuming the heat your experiencing is dry heat without humidity. Humidity always makes it even more unpleasant.

Now I know why all your roads are cracking up mate! We get heat like that in Oz during summer depending on where you live. It's mostly in the centre but we do get 40+ temperatures in places like Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and even Sydney.

Tom....
you really got your money's worth on this trip...
