My Western European Diorama Under Construction (1 Viewer)

Hi all

Today I finished coating and carving my mountain (or should I say rocky hill!) so here are some pic's showing the results. I used some natural rocks and plaster and paris on top of the existing foam base but most of the carving was done into the plaster and paris (while it was wet) and I didn't use to many rocks.

The K&C figures and TG truck are there to give you and idea of the size of the dio again.

I stumbled into this thread today and it's been amazing to watch your progress-what an awesome dio base you're going to have to work with--wow ! :salute::

Tom...

the texture of the terrain on the mountain looks really good...

grainy and earthy...

it should paint or flock very nicely...

GREAT JOB!

Thanks Mike, it's a big project but I am getting lot's of enjoyment putting it together and also learning at the same time. I have never attempted a dio of this size and I have never made many of it's features. I have lot's of ideas in what I can use the dio for.

Thanks Mike, I was thinking of adding a few more boulders but I didn't want to overdo it. I'm working on putting the pine timber around the edges of the dio today and I have already started to seal the creek with PVA glue.

But that means he will have to go to QLD,that's a big price to pay Tom ^&grin

Don't worry mate, i'll upgrade my health insurance...^&grin

Tom...

sometimes less is better I think...
you have a really nice craggy effect on your hill...
it will lend well to grass or dirt...
you can add more boulders later if you desire...
it's gonna look great...

Hmm, washing sheets, I'm not gunna go there...{eek3}^&grin

I've made heaps of progress, just waiting on some paint that I ordered so I can finish painting the landscape before taking some more snaps and posting.

Thanks Mike and yeah I agree, sometimes less is better and I'm happy with the effect on my hill. I finished painting it yesterday and it looks ok although I'm not sure if the grey colour I used looks quite right. I might post some pic's next weekend to get peoples opinions.

Hi all

Here are some more pic's showing the current progression of my dio. I have finally finished painting my landscape and almost finished painting and weathering my rock hill (I will also use a lighter colour to further weather the rocks). I have painted and weathered the foundations on my bridges and glued a layer of sand in my creek bed and then painted the bed with several different colours to get a lighter to darker affect. This I hope will give the perception of depth when I pour the realistic water. I won't pour the water until later though and will now concentrate on my stone wall around the yet to be placed cottage. I will also start laying grass, gravel for the road and ballast for the railway once I have glued the track down.

I have placed some K&C vehicles to again give you an idea of the dio size. The structure is only there temporarily for aesthetic purposes and will be replaced by the cottage.

Here's some pic's of the cottage. As you can see it is now finished and it was built by Wayne (Waynepoo) on the forum. Thanks mate, it's a beaut and I hope it gets to me undamaged either on the plane or by camel train!
