N.F.L. 21-22 Season (2 Viewers)

The Rams squeaked past the Lions to avoid perhaps the worst weekend in sports history for LA fans. USC, UCLA, Clippers, Kings and Dodgers all lost on Saturday. The Rams are not impressing me. They hit a tough part of the schedule soon with the 49ers, Packers, and Titans. These cupcake games are meaningless. except as wins.

The muffed punt rule is truly bizarre. Last night a 49er returner touched a punt at about the 30 yard line, the ball got by him, he chased it down to the 20 and kicked it toward the end zone where he recovered it around the one and ran with the ball into the end zone where he was tackled. An obvious safety - right? No, it was ruled a touchback. So why doesn't every punt returner just kick the ball out of the end zone to get a touchback? Why is a muffed punt not considered an ordinary fumble?

I saw that...
that rule needs to be revised...
the kick in my opinion was totally accidental...
but none the less...
the guy did kick it...
it should have been a safety...

I feel your pain...
but I bet on "Da Bears"...
I changed channels at half time...
they couldn't even make a game of it getting 13 1/2 points...

It was 0-3 yesterday. My son is a 49er fan and that team has lost its way or something. They looked crisp on the first few drives but Shanahan is just too conservative and, except for three plays in the 4th Q when Shanahan opened it up again, they were bad. The pressure is increasing Shanahan. 49er fans want to see him gone.

the 49er's/Colts game was almost impossible to watch...
a real slop fest...the weather was unforgiving...
I wouldn't use it as a judging point on either team...
Chris Collingsworth said at one point...
"there are more dropped interceptions than receptions"....
must have been at least 10 fumbles on top of that...
Wentz could have had at least 5 INT's...
he's no mudder...

They are bigger and faster but I think a big reason is they don't really practice hard anymore. Starters don't play at all or very little in preseason. There are no more two a days and little contact in practice. With the latest CBA teams can only practice in pads 11 times during the season. Coaches were vehemently against this but the current day corporate rat owners couldn't care less about the game on the field. Players are basically doing walk throughs all week and trying to go all out on game days.

I am a little late to this argument but….

Every player who signs a contract from the league minimum to half a billion dollars knows this game in inherently dangerous and that it could (and often does) lead to permanent, debilitating injuries and even death.

With all of that knowledge, the vast majority choose to play for the money, much more money than an every day, hard working (but safe) job could earn.

The owners are greedy, short cut taking money grabbers, but so are the players.

In the immortal words of the late, great Glen Frey, the lure of easy money, it has a very strong appeal……

the NFL fan who got Brady's 600th TD football...
that wide receiver, Mike Evans caught and threw into the stands...
got a nice reward for retuning it...
Brady also gave him one Bitcoin...which I think is valued over $60,000....
pretty sweet!!!

A team source told ESPN that Byron Kennedy, who was sitting in the end zone when Evans tossed the record-breaking ball into the stands, will receive two signed Brady jerseys, a helmet, another jersey autographed by Evans and Evans' game-worn cleats.
The team is also providing a pair of season tickets for the remainder of 2021, all of 2022 and a $1,000 credit to the official team store.
Evans had not realized that it was Brady's 600th career touchdown...

I'm assuming this guy will owe a bundle in taxes from all these "gifts." His ex-wife will sue him for a cut. The media will probably dig up some past indiscretion and his life will be forever ruined over being handed a football.

Mike Tomlin's name has come up in the USC coaching search. I doubt he leaves the NFL but that would be a good hire. Instill some toughness and discipline into that program. Certainly better than Jeff Fisher who is an SC guy whose name is also coming up. Fisher is a nice guy but a terrible football coach. It's hard to say who really is in contention and who leaks their own name to improve their negotiation status with others looking for a coach.

Would love to see Tomlin as the USC coach..................maybe Pete Carroll from the Seahawks, they are toast at 2-5, he just turned 70, maybe a return to college?

I doubt there is much chance with Tomlin. The leading candidates are Luke Fickell from Univ. of Cincinnati (the current USC AD came from that school) and Matt Campbell from Iowa St. There was some discussion of James Franklin at Penn St. but that seemed to be coming from his own agent to bolster his negotiating status. I don't think there is any real interest. Franklin is the only person that Clay Helton ever outcoached in the 2017 Rose Bowl win. Pete Carroll looks used up and burnt out. His Seachickens are awful. He likely retires in the next couple of years and goes to TV.

Speaking of Cincinnati, explain to me how they are ranked 2nd? They play the march of the tomato cans schedule, nice little story that they are undefeated, but imagine what Georgia or Alabama would do to them?

Reminds me of the year BYU was 11-0 and top ranked, they played 6-5 Michigan in the Poulin Weed Whacker bowl and won and ended up as national champions, a total farce.

If Alabama loses to Georgia in the SEC championship game, they are out with 2 losses, but if they beat Georgia, then what, Cincinnati is ranked #1?

There isn't enough room for Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan and whoever else ends up undefeated/win one loss.

College football is tough, you lose once and you're pretty much toast.

JJ Watt is done for the year. A tough break for the Cards who have been rolling. Murray has something like a 60% completion percentage on passes of over 20 yards. About 20% higher than anyone else. Adding Ertz makes that offense lethal.

Surprised he lasted this long, a great talent, but he's spent more time in the trainers room than on the field.

Patriots had a CB named Steve Israel, his nickname was "Beth" Israel, named after a famous hospital here in Boston as that guy was hurt more than he played.

Green Bay is a wagon, so much for Rodgers wanting out, he looks great so far this season.

The NFC is stacked; Green Bay, Arizona, the Rams, Bucs, Saints, Dallas.............six very, very good teams, it's going to be a rockfight to get out of the NFC and advance to the Super Bowl, any one of these six teams could get there.

Over in the AFC, it's the Bills, Titans...........maybe the Bengals, Raiders, Chargers, Ravens in the mix..........the rest are JAGS.

And the team everyone was crowning as an up and comer, Miami, flat out stinks, 1-6, naturally their only win came vs New England, year in and year out Miami finds new and inventive ways to screw up the Patriots season.

Don’t forget the Chiefs.

Mahomes has spent all week practicing his run around, then throw it up for grabs and to get a PI call play.

Another Andy Reid is the “greatest guy ever Super Bowl moment” is inevitable.

J-E-T-S!! I appreciate the help in beating the Bengals today, not sure who that QB is but I'd think about starting him next week!!

He was a backup who was never expected to play. Nobody had ever heard of him, seriously heard of him, until Zach Wilson got hurt. Today was his first start ever. I’m sure talk radio will be going gaga tomorrow. They play Thursday against the Colts so we’ll have to see how that goes before anointing him as anything. Some are also giving credit to the OC moving upstairs, instead of being down on the field, for the team’s success today.

Well after a terrible Saturday, I sure as hell love the win today in Cleveland. Big Ben owns Cleveland period, no ifs ands or buts, he owns them. When you are having a so so year, beating a rival on the road sure feels just toooooooo sweeeeeeeeeeet. Weird how some wins feel so much better even though they don't mean quite so much.

TD
