N.F.L. 21-22 Season (2 Viewers)

As always, both sides are to blame,

I’d like to believe that the NFL is trying to be magnanimous but they are not. They just do not want anymore low rated Tuesday games.

The unvaccinated players just want to get paid while ignoring an absolute health crisis accompanied by medical facts.

Yet we are all the biggest idiots in the end because we will voraciously watch the games, all the while filling the pockets of billionaires and millionaires.

It’s about money, shocking I know.

Many businesses are requiring you to be vaccinated, otherwise you are out of a job. Most people have to go along with this. They don’t have the bargaining power of a union like the baseball players to say no. In many states employment is at will meaning you can be fired at the discretion of your employer, subject, of course, to laws against discrimination, etc.

Virus has affected sports here in Oz.

Due to lockdowns our entire NRL competition moved to Qld. Then they moved in hundreds of their family members, from other states, into a seperate hotel for 14 days quarantine. Daily Mail then got pictures of some family members on balconies passing food etc to each other. Now they have had to tape their balcony doors shut. Possibly no co-incidence that after the families were safely in the Qld Govt locked down entries from New South Wales. Seems the police had booked, for 80 cops, a hotel on the border about 6 days before lockdown announced,

One team a few weeks ago had a party involving most of their players in contravention of lockdown regulations. Big fines up to about US$40,000 and game suspensions.

Another player had a lady guest in his hotel room during state of Origin competition in breach of NRL rules. Wife not too pleased {sm2}

Sports writers certainly had more to write about in past year.

I am so glad that two of the worst stories in the NFL, Aaron Rodgers and Deshaun Watson, are finally going away.

Rodgers is staying in Green Bay and Watson is going to be traded.

Great press conference from Rodgers where he basically said he was making a huge sacrifice by coming back and playing for Green Bay and his $14.7 mil salary.

According to Forbes he has earned over $200 mil in his career, the vast majority of which has been paid by the Packers.

Jason...

14.7 million...that can't be right...
what is that for 1/2 of a season?

he certainly makes more that 14.7 a year doesn't he?

His base is $14.7mil and his bonus etc. brings it to over $22 mil.

Plenty of money to stop complaining how difficult his job is.

Jason...
while agreeing he is being a bit difficult in coming to terms...
that doesn't seem like much for Aaron Rodgers...

all these links have him at 33.5 million a year...
where am I missing here?

Mike:

I use Sportrac. The $33 mil is an average. They put 2021 at $27 mil, which includes all sorts of bonuses.

$22 mil, $27mil, $33 mil, all of those numbers are huge. Complaining about doing a job (playing a game) that pays you any of those amounts is an absolute insult to the average fan who most likely lives pay check to pay check.

Jason...
yea...can't argue with that...the player's salaries are obscene to Average Joe...and sometimes these convoluted payment plans are difficult to understand...they juggle and renegotiate the players yearly salaries to suit each years cap needs...these players are extremely well compensated...on a personal note...I'm glad to see AR back in training camp...I will always associate him with GB as I do Brady with NE...

Wentz injured his foot at Colts camp, he'll need surgery and is out 6 to 12 weeks.

Looks like his fresh start is off on the wrong foot.

Mike:

I agree, Rodgers is a symbol of Green Bay but he is also a huge malcontent whose ego can’t be contained.

I remember how it was well known within the Bay Area media that he didn’t like Cal recruiting QB’s even though the longest he could stay was 4 years.

Then Green Bay drafted him without telling Brett Favre and Favre could have cared less. Fast forward a few years and the Packers draft his replacement and he is hurt beyond repair.

I wince each and every time the Niners are mentioned as a potential landing spot for him once he leaves Green Bay.

According to the pundits the Niners are the Chiefs from a few years ago with Jimmy G. playing Alex Smith and Trey Lance playing Patrick Mahomes.

Wait, what??

"There stands Wentz like a stone wall." I'm paraphrasing the audio narrative from Bull Run.

I’m not sure what’s hard to understand. Lance has looked very good in his camp and the plan is got him to replace Jimmy G. He’s already shown he can throw the ball longer than Jimmy G.

Hindsight is and always will be 20/20. When the time came to dump Brady and keep Jimmy G, the Patriots chose the keep Brady................and went to two more Super Bowls, winning one.

The fans here had mixed feelings, they thought Jimmy G was the future and Brady was on the back nine.

Now a year removed from Brady and a horrible performance by Cam, Jones the rookie is lighting it up in camp, he looks like the future and will be on a rookie deal for 5 years and Jimmy G has not exactly lit the world on fire, got a super bowl, but wilted in the 4th quarter and is now apparently on the outs in SF.

Belichick got somewhat roasted for getting rid of Jimmy G; now, not so much.

Again; hindsight.

When Jimmy G has been healthy he has been very good but those years have been rare. When he was traded to SF, they won five or six in a row and he looked great. Next year he gets hurt against KC early in the season, boom, season over. Next year, he is healthy and SF goes to the SB. Last year he gets hurt and he never really recovered.

With the season only a month or so away here's my thoughts on the AFC North...the Bengals are still to young with a banged up Burrows as well as no offensive line and will be the bottom team again this year, I think father time is playing against Big Ben and the Steelers who also lost some talent in free agency, which brings us to the Browns and Ravens....I think both teams will be on each other's heels all season and the division title will come down to the 2nd match up late in the season for the AFC North title...hoping my Ravens stay healthy and Covid-19 free this year!!! Should be a interesting season.

Jimmy G. might be Alex Smith but let’s wait a few games (or even plays) before we crown Trey Lance as the next Patrick Mahomes.

Whether Lance is as good as Mahomes is early to determine but one thing is certain, he will be the SF QB next year and Jimmy G will be plying his trade elsewhere.
