N.F.L. 21-22 Season (1 Viewer)

having to forfeit ownership would be huge!!!

Deshaun Watson is not gonna get a free ride either from Goodell...
but...it won't be much of a big deal if that happens...

if suspended for a year...which is what he and his agent seemingly expected...
as they negotiated his contract so he only makes 1 million his first year of his fully guaranteed 230 million dollar contract...
not much money to him...
all he loses is 1 million in pay from the Browns if suspended for 1 year...
then pays out probably 25-50 million to the 24 cases they have already agreed to settle out of court...
making out like a bandit...

his agent pulled a quick one on Goodell and the NFL...
what a joke...

anxious to see how this played out...

might not even get suspended for a year...
as the NFLPA is going to use the minimal fines and sentencing on Snyder...Jones and Kraft...
as an example of how severe Watson's sentencing...if any...could really be...

I'm no fan of Dan Snyder but I think the NFL and MLB may be incentivizing false claims. Typically, it goes like this. Someone makes a claim against a player. It may or may not be true. Others then come out of the woodwork claiming they were victimized as well. Law enforcement investigates and brings no charges. The player, however, has their career damaged. To the tune of perhaps millions if they are suspended. There is enormous pressure to settle with those making allegations (whether true or not). That creates a vicious cycle in which it becomes very lucrative and likely of a big payday to make false allegations. What happened to Bauer in MLB was a travesty. Basically, ending his career over an allegation that was found not credible by law enforcement. He might still be a jerk and engaged what others judge to be inappropriate private conduct but he was hung out to dry for political motivations. He is now suing his accuser but that will take years to resolve and he will be finished as an athlete.

I will admit...

it's hard for me to understand how the law enforcement agencies can dismiss all charges...
as they are deemed too un-substantiated to prosecute...
and then the NFL can over ride their judgement and penalize a player, costing him millions, his reputation and sometimes his livelihood...
while they examine the exact same evidence the law enforcement agency made their decisions on...
how can 2 agencies see things so differently...

but I do understand the NFL's need to protect their image and integrity...
which has taken way many hickeys in the past...
and I'm sure there are pages and pages in the owner's contracts with the NFL about inappropriate behavior and consequences...

if Snyder does refuse to testify...I thought that was his right...
but the only reason I can guess in why he wouldn't...is that it would be damaging to his case...

to take ownership away from a sport's teams owner is not unprecedented...
Donald Sterling banned for life from the NBA...forced to sell the Clippers...

on the Watson case...it kind of baffles me that the local law enforcement dropped charges on all 28 claims...
but I only get to read and digest what they share with the public...

money is the biggest band aid in the world...it cures almost anything...

I vaguely recall him making out of court settlements with 24 of his accusers.

I might be wrong, but I recall hearing that on some outlet, can't remember which one to be honest.

I don't watch much of ESPN or any national sports programs, but has this story been in the news?

Not to bring up the past, but I recall "Deflategate" was huge news on ESPN and all national tv stations for a while, then when Brady was suspended and appealed it, that became a huge story too, that thing dragged on for what, two years?

And through it all, the Patriots still managed to win two Super Bowls.

Just comical how big of a story letting the air out of footballs became and how this one, which is much, much more serious, is hardly mentioned.

The deflategate situation was higher profile because it involved cheating that affected the game itself instead of alleged misconduct outside the sport. That situation was exacerbated by Brady's cover up and lies. Probably no big deal if Brady had just admitted the truth instead of destroying his phone etc. A slap on the wrist. It's my opinion that misconduct, including criminal acts, are the responsibility of law enforcement and the NFL and MLB have no business punishing someone when law enforcement investigates and declines to press charges. That only encourages false allegations by pressuring players to settle with anyone who makes a misconduct claim. Whether true or faked.

They don't call him "Shady Brady" for nothing.

I saw that cementhead Gronk retired yet again.

No doubt his buddy Tom will call in November and he'll unretire again.

Not bad for a guy who retired in 2019 because he was afraid of ending up a cripple.

That frees up Gronk to make even more TV commercials! He is only on a dozen or so now. My favorite has to be where he phones up and tries to obtain some type of insurance for military vets. Who thought that commercial was a good idea? Trying to falsely claim benefits somehow promotes the product.

A sad day yesterday to be a Raven fan, with the death of Tony Sarogosa, Jaylon Ferguson on the same day, rest in Peace gentle men. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

yea...
lol...
"I'm special."

Until the NFL treats civil settlements as admissions of guilt then the likes of a Snyder and Watson will continue to do what they do, making league “financial” punishments symbolic at best.

Dan Snyder should be not be an NFL owner and Deshaun Watson should never play a single down in the NFL again.

You’re conflating civil and criminal trials. In a civil matter, only liability is determined. Guilt is a criminal matter.

The NFL conduct policy does not differentiate between civil and criminal trials or liability. As such the NFL should ultimately use these civil settlements to justify and enforce penalties.

Kyler Murray just signed a $230 million deal with the Cards. That is great news for the Rams. He is a great talent but not worth that kind of money given that his style of play means he finishes every season injured. Particularly with a 17-game season. And once he can't run, he is an average QB at best.

One of the conditions of Murray's contract is that he attended film sessions. Imagine signing a QB to a nearly $250 million contract and knowing he is so lazy and uncommitted that he has to be contractually required to do his basic job. Not a good sign.

not a positive sign when the wording of a contract insists he views films...his reputation must precede him...

Mike-
Maybe Murray should return the $230 million if he thinks his contract is "disrespectful." No one forced him to sign it. This is obviously based on the experience of his coaches. They have no confidence in his work ethic or desire to win. Now it's a toxic situation. Better to have traded the guy. But it's all good for my Rams since they will get to pound him into dust.

The Quaterback contracts right now are @#$% ridiculous!!! Watson and Murray in my humble opinion deserve nothing close to those contracts!! How many playoff wins they have combined??...ZERO!!!! I understand thru both have had some decent success but let's be real here, those type of contracts should be earned not just tossed out there because of a few winning seasons.

the clause about mandatory film viewing sessions was put in there for a reason...that's an unusual stipulation in a contract...first time I have ever heard of one like that before in a contract anyway...so it's probably been an issue that the team feels has hurt him...

and 70 TD's in 3 years with 34 INT's is not a great stat...but I think 5' 10"s tall in the NFL...is a bigger obstacle than it is in college...

46 million a year puts him only behind Rodgers and Watson...that's some rare rare company he's grouped in...

So now they have removed Murray's "homework" clause from his contract. What a trainwreck. Imagine paying a guy $230 million who his coaches don't have confidence will do his job? Then having this controversy to alienate him. And now having to backdown. This will hang over their heads as long as he plays for the Cards. They should have traded him if they don't have confidence in the guy.
