N.F.L. 24-25 Season (1 Viewer)

Tom:

What a great post, I think this really sums up how many true fans feel.

I have watched the local Niner pre and post game shows for years. Gone are the days where they focused on the team and the actual game.

Too many people care more about Xavier Worthy’s stats than they do who wins.

It has all been replaced by point spreads, over/unders and fantasy crap.

The product, and more importantly to me, its focus is fading.

I agree, to me and not to sound corny and cliche, it really has become the No Fun League, I just don't have the excitement or attention span for it right now and it is not because of "my" team being in the dumps, they are not, they are fighting and have had winning seasons since I can remember, I just have zero will to set aside the time to watch.

Tom:

I hope you had a nice dinner.

Judging from the highlights you did not miss much.

Baltimore predictably destroyed Cleveland and Pittsburgh/Cincinnati was a penalty, dropped passes, turn-over fest.

When is the last time a Tomlin coached team did anything more than win 10 games? His team legit just lost the last four games of the season. His teams have not won a playoff game since 2016 and he's had a **** ton of talented players. Is The Standard in Pittsburgh truly just finish .500 or better?!?

He clearly has a say on what players are drafted/traded for and what coordinators are hired, and what plays are called...he has far more sway/say than many other coaches. What he does not have is postseason success since 2016.

The Bengals are the hottest team in the NFL and won't make the playoffs because the Chefs have nothing to play for and will roll over for Denver, too bad, would have loved to see the Bengals get in and knock off the Bills in round one.

Pittsburg IMO is just plain tired. He is a good coach, but also IMO, George Pickens is uncoachable. I only watched the 30 min summary and it looked awful. On a high note, the Steak was perfect, the Martinis were good and we had a nice 2.5 hr tour of food, can't beat it!

The Rams apparently have already clinched the NFC West despite playing the Seachickens today who are only one game behind them in the standings. The Rams haven't scored over 19 points in their last three games but somehow won them all. The Rams are not going to win a road game against Philly or Detroit but they can play with anyone else in the NFC.

Credit to the bottom dwellers for still playing hard in the early games. The Pats, Bears, and Panthers among others. I always hate to see teams throw games for draft status. The Pats actually gave up the first pick to TN by beating Buffalo.

I thought I had seen it all until I saw this bloke wearing diamond earrings and a necklace during the game (Justin Jefferson). Is this the norm?

Going into the playoffs I will reaffirm the Chiefs as my Super Bowl winner.
I'm going with Baltimore and Philly in the SB. This might be the year that "small game" Lamar Jackson makes a run in the playoffs. Henry is a beast. They are going to be tough to beat. KC doesn't look the same. Still winning but in close games.

can you imagine if the Steelers somehow rebound and beat Baltimore.............................hope springs eternal, but boy would that be something. Baltimore would lose it and I would love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anything is possible. If the game was in Pittsburgh, then this is a 50-50 game, but I don't think even "small game" Lamar can blow this one at home. Close and ugly is about the best the Steelers can expect. The pressure is definitely on the Ravens in a close game.

Chargers tight end ahould have to repay his salary. Buffoon has arguably cost them the game with 2 horrific plays!

Moving the Rams-Vikes game to AZ is understandable but it must be a logistical nightmare to untangle the ticket situation. Have to wonder if the crowd will be made up of more Minnesotians fleeing their artic nightmare or LA folks fleeing the fire. It's a strange new world that are living in. Games with no fans during COVID, and now moving games because of a massive fire.

The Chargers-Texans game was like watching paint dry. Always love to see Harblow take a spanking, though. He looks like the Unabomber on the sideline. It's apparently a lot harder to win a championship without knowing what plays the opponent is calling. Speaking of which, how much longer will the NCAA investigate Michigan before dropping the hammer?

Steelers look like they don't want to be in this game.
I've never seen a "1-2-3" Cancun performance from a Tomlin coached Steelers, but this game might be the first. They got punched on the chin in the first half. Henry is a beast. The most physical running back that I can ever remember. Maybe Earl Campbell or Herschel Walker, but otherwise he is in a league by himself. It might be time for Tomlin to call it quits. The years take a toll in coaching and even though he is still a good one, it feels like he is out of gas.

We were talking about this last night; what team would you rather be, the Patriots who went on a dominant 19 year run, 10 trips to the SB, 6 wins, then bottoming out and stinking for the past 5 years, or the Steelers, finishing in the 10-7/11-6 window year after year and going one and one in the playoffs.

Give me the Patriots, I don't want to be stuck in sports no man land for years and years.

I think IMO the Steelers are the reflection of being in it for so long with Ben (albeit the same time of the Pats run) and now look at the effect of ineffective QB's. A long string of them and ineffective offensive coordinators. They don't have Ben and it is evident IMO again that they do not know how to operate without an elite QB. Lamar Jackson, last night looked like an effective QB and a tremendous athlete. You can be effective, athletic without being elite. Pittsburgh needs to figure that part out, draft effective athletes, elite QB's come around every decade plus, there are just not a bunch out there. You can argue that Aaron Rogers at one time was elite, he is past prime now. I think Mahomes is elite and that is why they win. I think Philly has a very effective QB who is a tremendous athlete. The Steelers have...........................zilch, over the hill guy who showed his age a lot this season and a younger guy who is a tremendous athlete but not an effective QB. Almost like finding a needle in a haystack.

On another note, Tomlin looks mentally exhausted and exasperated over the level of effort he was getting the last half of the season. IMO, I don't buy into early easy schedule nonsense, players are players, right now, the Steelers have a lot of talent in some areas, IMO huge holes in others and a worn out approach.

A coach is only as good at the talent around him, specifically as you pointed out at QB, it's now a QB driven league.

People rave about how great of a coach Reid is; he was a good coach in Philly who could never get over the hump, he goes to KC and was mostly mediocre; until Mahomes fell into his lap, now he's some super genius coach...........no, he's not, he's got a generational talent of a QB, period, end of story.

Was Belichick a great coach, or did he have a once in a lifetime QB for 19 years.................probably somewhere in the middle, but IMO it was mostly due to Brady.

The Patriots appear to have a very good young QB; the other 52 players on the roster blow, they are years away from being a playoff team, they may never been one again, no guarantees in the NFL or any other sport.

Just ask the Jets, 56 years of mostly mediocrity.

It is maddening sometimes how much a QB matters, but if you look at every SB, there was always a great QB or one having a generational season. I can think of 2 real exceptions and of course it is the Ravens - Dilfer and Flacco. Not to sound bitter, but I still have a hard time believing either of those teams won it all, just the right seasons and literally the right bounce of the ball.
