N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (1 Viewer)

Brady had a perfect 158.3 rating yesterday...
granted it was against Detroit...
but you still have to make the plays...
there were some comments a few weeks ago that he was all washed up on long throws...
no distance or accuracy...
I'm not so sure...
he was hitting some bombs right on target all day...
final score 47-7...
TB has the second best overall point differential at +120...
KC is the first with +125...
as long as they can give him a safe pocket...
he is a threat to any team...
like him or hate him...
he is the GOAT...

Back in November the Raiders were fined and lost a draft pick for Covid violations, including Gruden’s failure to wear a face mask. I watched last night’s game for about five minutes and saw that Gruden is still flaunting the face mask rule. It’s time for some more sanctions by the league.

they should fine the hell out of Gruden...
totally irresponsible...

the one that made me mad was James Harden of the Rockets not wearing a mask at a strip club party...
postponing the whole start of their season...

I'm not a fan of the Rockets...
but when a guy is fined only 50K...
and he makes what Harden makes...
a newscaster said that equals only a $70 fine to his bankroll...
compared to Average Joe on the street that makes about 70K per year...

Anyone watch the end of the Dolphin/Raider game? That had so much action in the last 5 minutes, I had a hard time keeping up. I can't believe that the Raiders let that guy loose down the sidelines in the last few seconds, basically letting the Dolphins do the same thing to them that they just did to the Jets a couple weeks back. Anyway, it was a wild ending to the game. -- Al

Al...
that pass in itself was unbelievable...
Fitzgerald's head was nearly ripped off with a facemask call that resembled Linda Blair in the Exorcist...
his chin was twisted almost behind his back...
I don't know how he was even close...
much less accurate on that one...
the last 4-5 minutes were crazy...
they panned in on Chuckey...
and you could see the disgust in his eyes vividly...

I'll never, as in ever, understand the "strategy" of playing for a FG like the Raiders did.

With the goofy new kick off rules, you get the ball at the 25 yard line, you're basically two plays away from FG range with the way kickers today can drill a 50 yard FG with ease.

GO FOR THE TD and make them drive the length of the field with no time outs and a minute to do it.

I would have gone for 2 after the TD as well, but hey, what do I know.

Way to go spinach chin, pulling yet another game out of his *** with some miracle heave......................

Let the buffoonery begin;

https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-plans-to-expand-regular-season-to-17-games-per-team-in-2021

So now what, some teams get 9 home games, some get 8, or will it be 8, 8 and 1 game played at neutral field like Mexico, Germany, the UK, the moon?

And who is the 17th game; right now it's your division by 2/6, one division in each conference/8, a team from each remaining division in your conference based on where you finish/2..............so what is the 17th game now, what team from what division?

Beyond idiotic, just go to 18 and get it over with, that's what they want anyway............with the way injuries pile up, you'll have playoff seeding determined by 3rd and 4th stringers.............I hope them expand the rosters to 60, but probably not as that costs money......................

3 things I have seen trending in the NFL this year...
and they all strike me as strange...
maybe it's just me...or the games I have chosen to watch...
but does anyone else see these things happening...

1) teams going for it on 4th down and short while deep on their own side of the field...I know a lot of teams this year were pretty much eliminated early...so what's it matter?
still...
in the past this kind of call from the head coach might have cost him his job...reckless play calling is one thing...and a fake punt is another...but lining up to go for it from a dangerous spot on the field...giving up field position if you don't make it seems to happen more now than in the past...

2) so many missed extra points after a TD...what I used to take for granted...now I don't...moving the ball back to the 15 yard line this year...it seems to make a huge difference...now making it a 32 yard kick instead of a 20 yard kick seems almost monumental...the money the kickers make...it still seems to me that it should still be almost automatic...

3) long pass plays on 3rd and very short...I see this more and more...a good drive stalls on a low percentage long pass when on 3rd down...you only need 2-3 yards...seems like a low percentage play to make a 30 yard pass as a short pass has a higher percentage of completion to keep the drive alive...

17-18-24 games...all way too much...that's asking a lot from an athlete...I agree...people are gonna get hurt playing that much...

The reason why it’s 17 is that in March the Union approved an increase to 17, not 18.

Tom...congrats...huge comeback today...couldn't even imagine them losing 4 in a row...

Yeah, what a rousing victory; did the Steelers get more yards today on penalties or on offense, two calls in particular were God awful.

They need to change defensive pass interference from a spot foul to a 10 yard penalty.

I get it, if they did, guys would tackle a guy who has him beat, but it's moronic to throw a 50 yard pass and have it result in a 50 yard gain due to some BS ticky tack penalty.

come on George...
everybody is playing by the same rules...

Considering Washington appears to be on the way to a loss, whoever wins today between Dallas and Philadelphia is going to be contending for the East title, such as it is. The Giants appear finished but in this division you never know.

Some of the ugliest QB play today that I have seen in a long while. Dwayne Haskins for the Deadskins is just plain awful. His days are numbered in the NFL. What happened to Russell Wilson? He went from an MVP type QB to a complete shell. Goff is the single biggest dud in all of football. An embarrassment to watch. He slides short of the first down just before the half in a division deciding game. Ugh. Other honorable mentions include Lock with the Broncos.

On the upside, Herbert with the Chargers is going to be a force. Hurts will be a permanent replacement for Wentz absent an injury. Josh Allen is the real deal for the Bills.

Yep. The Redskins chances went down the tubes when Smith got hurt again. Haskins couldn't throw his way out of a wet paper bag. He is terrible. -- Al

Part of the problem is there are 32 teams and I'm not sure if there are enough quality quarterbacks to go around.

Compound that with when a starter goes down, a back up who's not good enough to start gets thrown into the fire, then the quality of play really goes down.

Regarding the Eagles; they are tied to Wentz due to that contract, not sure what you do there, they're going to take a massive hit if they move on from him.

At one point, the Rams had a high flying offense, not sure what happened, but that is no longer the case...............

Did anyone know that if you fumbled the ball backwards in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter that someone couldn't advance the fumble? The Browns got screwed by that stupid rule. I can understand not allowing someone to fumble the ball forward. There was a famous case with Kenny "the Snake" Stabler doing that at an end of a game and changing the outcome but fumbling backward? That's crazy.
