N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (1 Viewer)

Did anyone know that if you fumbled the ball backwards in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter that someone couldn't advance the fumble? The Browns got screwed by that stupid rule. I can understand not allowing someone to fumble the ball forward. There was a famous case with Kenny "the Snake" Stabler doing that at an end of a game and changing the outcome but fumbling backward? That's crazy.

Thanks to the fumblerooski play, yes forward and then advancing it is a no no.

The backward rule is dumb.

Another dumb rule from the NFL.

It's astounding how the Browns find new and creative ways to lose games in nutpunch fashion.

They should still make the playoffs if the Steelers decide to rest their starters, I wouldn't as the #2 seed is still up for grabs, so we'll see.

The Titans are getting spanked in Green Bay tonight, the AFC has the Chefs, the Bills, the floundering Steelers and a bunch of middling 11-5, 10-6 teams with no shot.

NFL is reporting Goff dislocated his thumb and popped it back into place, but the concern is he also broke it.

If he can't go next week, some stooge from some mickey mouse college with 0 NFL starts get the start.

That sucks.

Tom...congrats...huge comeback today...couldn't even imagine them losing 4 in a row...

If Ben can do what he did from the 3rd qtr on and receivers actually catch the ball for the rest of this year, they have a shot. If not, well.....................

Yeah, what a rousing victory; did the Steelers get more yards today on penalties or on offense, two calls in particular were God awful.

They need to change defensive pass interference from a spot foul to a 10 yard penalty.

I get it, if they did, guys would tackle a guy who has him beat, but it's moronic to throw a 50 yard pass and have it result in a 50 yard gain due to some BS ticky tack penalty.

To be fair, the Colts had a few that sustained their chances too. It goes both ways and always does. I mean , you have to be fair. Tripping over your own shoelaces with no chance of catching said ball and then getting a flag.....................game would have been over. SO, I never look at how an official calls a game, their is only 1 game in my lifetime where I truly believe an official's call definitively decided the game and that was the Saints/Rams.

The rule needs to be changed.

If you touch a guy beyond 5 yards, it's a spot foul, it should be 10 yards.

If you drag a guy down from behind to prevent a TD, then have some flexibility in the rule to call it intentional and make it a spot foul.

It's not rocket science.

I don't necessarily disagree, but like I said goes both ways, there was a game ending interception nullified because they both fought for the ball, yet called Pass Interference. It was certainly an arguable play. That said, I think they get it right most of the time. What I think is the judgement is whether PINT or Def Holding and I think you can argue that Def Holding is not used enough. And on the play I referenced, I could maybe see Holding, but not Pass Int. Yet, Pass interference, game continued instead of no call and interception. Makes you wonder.

Imagine how poorly an injured Goff will play given his performance while healthy. It wouldn't surprise me if the Rams try to go with Goff next week even if it is broken. NFL coaches can almost never pull a "star" QB. Goff could be in a wheelchair and they would roll him out there. It is an admission of complete organizational failure to pull the QB that they have signed to a long term deal. The Rams couldn't be much worse with the backup QB playing. Anyone would be better with the possible exception of Dwayne Haskins.

It is a good point about NFL teams. Case in point - Ravens gave Flacco the keys to the contract after that one miraculous SB run. Where is he now? How long did they hold onto him before they dumped him? You talk about a dud, I believe he is intelligent, obviously he secured a big K, but football wise has to be one of the biggest dummies I have ever seen take the field. If a guy is not wide open, he never could work through his progressions, just look at his career incompletes and interceptions.

So, long story short, if Goff doesn't improve or career ending injury, they will still probably keep him for a bit. Maybe he gets better, who knows, this year has been bizarre to say the least in the NFL.

I've never, as in ever, seen a QB take advantage of DPI like him; goes through his reads.........primary target is covered.............."Oh look, there's a guy running down the sideline blanketed by the CB with safety help over the top".....he heaves the ball 40 yards downfield, DPI, spot foul, first down.

So much so that a long throw that draws DPI is known in my circle as a "Flacco".................

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out as the QB goes, so goes the team, the teams that compete year in and year out (Pittsburgh, Kansas City, the Colts in the 200's, Patriots, Saints, Packers, Chargers in the 2000's, Giants with Opie ) have a solid QB, teams that stink year after year after year have a lousy QB and are constantly trying to upgrade the position.

It's a QB driven league, no doubt about it.

George...

I think all you need is a good QB...
don't need a great one...that heaves the ball 60 yards...
just a guy that can manage the ball, play smart and not throw interceptions...

Aikman had some of the worst stats ever...........3 SB's...
Bradshaw too...........4 SB's...
Eli...terrible stats...enough said about him............2 SB's...
brother Peyton...2 SB's............he got the second one with hardly throwing the ball over 10 yards...

I would rather have a smart QB that doesn't throw interceptions...
a good O-line that a running back can excel with...
a team with a good pass rush and a good secondary...

gotta have a good defense...
be able to run the ball...
don't throw interceptions...

Montana and Brady were smart and always had good defenses...

that's the formula I like...

It's equally amazing at how few NFL teams invest in a decent backup QB. Particularly given the potential for injuries. The Rams will likely be better off without Goff and/or not getting to the playoffs. Unless they draw the Deadskins or Cowboys, everyone else would embarrass them. The Seahawks don't look much better. As awful as the Rams played, they still had chances to win. Russell Wilson looks like he doesn't care anymore.

Mr. Haskins is being released today by the Redskins. Maybe the Rams are interested?:wink2:{sm3} -- Al

have you heard who is gonna start?

Heinicke or Smith?

if the Cowboys win in the early game...
and Washington loses in the night game...
^&grin...^&grin...^&grin...^&grin...^&grin...
just kidding...
good luck Al...

the mighty NFC East could be represented by a 7-9 either way...
or a 6-10 team if they both lose...

Hi Mike. Alex Smith will start if able. The Mighty NFC LEast represented, possibly by a 7-9, or more likely, a 6-10 team. Jeez. ^&grin -- Al

I heard one analyst on NFL Radio say that in the modern NFL offenses now have three plays, the running game, the passing game and the penalty (pass interference) game.

What a beat down that was last night on MNF, the Bills demolished the Patriots.

Saying they demolished them is being kind.

Looks like there's a new sheriff in town in the AFC East.

We'll see what they do in the playoffs.

And on my birthday no less, nice gift, thanks Patriots.

Josh Allen looks great. The Bills are the second best team in the AFC right now. I wonder how much longer Belichick is going to stick around for these kinds of games? A cushy TV commentator job must be looking good to him. In a couple years he could come back with the Cowboys or Raiders.

George...

one the first series...
when that trick play that hit the wide open receiver right in his hands for a TD...
that he dropped and went sour...
things just went downhill from there...

Josh Allen is a very good QB with a core of talented receivers...
he has a good O'line that gives him protection...
they have a good defense...maybe not a Steeler's or Dolphin's defense...but still very good...
Buffalo at 12-3 looks like the real deal...
my dark horse to win the SB...

Dallas didn't want to pay up for Cole Beasley once they got Ceedee Lamb on the cheap...
he is a huge asset to Buffalo's receiving corp...
but Ceedee has replaced his output double or triple...
so I don't miss him...

I don't think Cam is the answer or can become the answer...
there is a host of good QB's coming up in the draft this year...
maybe NE can snag one...

I know BB is frustrated with Cam's play...
I saw him throw his phone (or something) in disgust with the game...
hopefully you can get some good help in the draft or in trades and be competitive next year...

I know from first hand knowledge that it sucks to watch your team when they play so badly...
I'm a Cowboy's fan...so I know...

Doug...

I don't see anyway that BB is coming to Dallas...not gonna happen...

and...

I don't think he talks enough or has the personality to be a broadcaster...
that would be funny to watch...

Mike,
Yeah, things went downhill from that drop, their margin of error is razor thin and you have to cash in on those chances.

Cam is not the answer, he's truly toast, the back up sucks too..................

Listen; they dominated the league for close to 20 years, Brady was a big reason for that, he made average WR's look good, plus they had a knack for finding guys and bringing them here and they played above their pay level; Van Noy, Blount, Hogan, they drafted well but just never seem to be able to keep good players like Flowers, Hicks, Collins, Ryan, Lewis, they've made some trades that worked out great, Amendola, Cooks...............other teams raid their roster, coaches leave and do the same, the fact that they were so good for so long is amazing in the salary cap era.

This team owes me nothing, for almost 40 years they were a laughing stock, Belichick comes here and turned the whole thing around.

The Bills, Dolphins and other tomato cans were not going to stink forever, the Bills look loaded, the way those three announcers ballwashed them for three hours last night, you'd think they were a dynasty, try winning a playoff game or better yet, not blowing four SB's in a row and then we'll talk.

Or better yet, when they win the division 17 times in 19 years, go to 13 AFFCG's, 9 Super Bowls and win 6, then talk to me about how good they are.

Their defense is suspect vs the run, I can see Henry running wild on them, their path to the super bowl will not be easy, maybe they'll get lucky and avoid Tennessee and the Chefs until the AFCCG, we'll see.

The Patriots have 51 million to play with next year; needless to say, the upcoming draft is going to be vital, they need to hit on several picks, sign some free agents and see what happens; IMO, this is going to be a 2 to 3 year rebuild and I think Doug is right, not sure if at Belichick's age, he's up for that.

We'll see.....................
