N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (1 Viewer)

Report:

NFL owners pitch 18-game schedule, but with players restricted to 16 games...

I hope not...

https://sports.yahoo.com/report-nfl...players-restricted-to-16-games-181138369.html

That sounds like a solid plan...………….:rolleyes2:

Imagine laying out money for a game when the season starts thinking you're going to see Tom Brady and you get Brian Hoyer instead...……………..

What about the betting lines?

Will you know in advance if the starting QB is out for a certain game before you bet, or is it a game time decision?

As a coach, do you sit your starting QB when you play a tomato can team; what if you lose and it screws up your playoff seeding?

So the owners get two more nationally televised games then vs locally televised preseason games, FOX, ESPN, ABC, NBC and the NFLN have to shell out more money to carry 18 games vs 16 then?

More games = more money for the owners, what about the players, do they get the same salary for 16 vs 18?

The mind reels.

I can't see it happening for all the reason you noted. It would be a joke. The TV ratings have been sinking as it is. Imagine what happens when the scrubs are playing and the stars are on the bench. This must be some type of negotiating ploy.

This must be some type of negotiating ploy.

B-I-N-G-O...…………..the owners float this and then pull it back as a ploy to show the players union they are willing to "negotiate".

If they go to a 18 game schedule, will they also expand rosters too, ie, add players and raise the salary cap? Since that means they have to spend money, the answer will probably be no.

The exhibition season is a joke; take Brady for example. He sits out game 1, plays a series or two in game 2, plays the first half of game 3, then one series into the third quarter to simulate a real game scenario, then he sits out game 4.

So in 4 games, he plays basically half a game, it's idiotic to begin with, even more idiotic that as a season ticket holder, you are forced into buying two preseason game tickets at full price, you'd be better off lighting that money on fire.

Not to mention every pre season, as a fan you hold your breath and pray no one gets hurt; I remember one year in the last preseason game, the Patriots lost three defensive starters for the season in that game, the teams season ended before it began.

Two years ago the Patriots lost Edelman for the year in a preseason game, which cost them a Super Bowl win.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I don't see how "average Joe" can even afford to go to a game...
the working man is priced out...especially from taking the wife and 2-3 kids...
I've gotten in the habit of going 3-4 times a month to see the Astros...
usually sitting behind 1st base on the ground level...
good seats...not the cheapest seats...
but definitely not the most expensive by any means...
they cost about $90 per person and Stubb Hub throws on a lot of extra charges raising the price to over $100 per person...
parking a vehicle in downtown Houston is a minimum of $20 per car...
you better eat before you become a hungry captive audience for Minute Maid's 4 Star concession...
or you blow another $20 for a pizza and a soda...
bag of peanuts is $6.00...
they promo these Nolan Ryan $1.00 dogs occasionally...
but man...I ate one...they really suck!

to take the wife and 3 kids to a game...
"Priceless?"...
no...
more like $500 for 3 hours entertainment...

The NFL in their infinite wisdom decided not to suspend the Chiefs Hill after he broke his sons arm.

So Adrian Peterson got 6 games for using a switch on his kid, which was horrible and seemingly out of a place of ignorance, he didn't break a bone.

Hill breaks an arm, along with a slew of other charges and gets nothing??

Kareem Hunt, from the same team, gets caught hitting and dragging a woman and gets cut and suspended 8 games.

Now his former teammate breaks his own kid's arm and nothing.

Brady may have deflated footballs in a game, 4 games.

The mind reels.

I get it Rodger; don't punish the Chiefs as afterall, they've got the best shot at taking down the Patriots.

What a gutless puke he is.

George...

I read an article on either ESPN or Yahoo Sports the other day about the NFL (Goodell) seemingly relaxing on suspensions of the players...

ESPECIALLY THE STARS...

the writer feeling that in the past...Goodell over did the suspensions on stars Brady and Elliott...and it really hurt the ratings...

the article also went on to discuss that they may have a revised NFL marijuana policy in the very near future...which I think they should...as it would resolve a lot of issues...11 states have already made it legal for recreational use and 33 states have legalized it for medicinal use...

Elliott met with the board last week over his Las Vegas incident...and they said he did not violate the personal conduct policy and will face no discipline...you know I'm a Cowboy fan and it really surprised me...I was thinking 2-4 games...he can still be found guilty of criminal assault by the Las Vegas police...which would make Goodell's innocent judgement look pretty stupid...or at least contradictory to a legal judgement...

the article kind of gave the impression that a memo has come down from the owners to slow down on suspensions...

this is just one writers opinion...but it seems like there could be some truth to it...

the article was on one of those websites yesterday or the day before...I can't find it right now...but if I do...I will post the link...

I don't for the life of me understand how you can suspend Peterson for 6 games, Hunt for 8, Hill breaks his son's arm and gets nothing.

It's incomprehensible to me.

And Elliot's suspension a few years ago was nothing but a vendetta against Jones.

This guy Goodell continues to be an embarrassment.

He disgusts me.

George...

I don't know if they got it right or not on him breaking the child's arm...

I don't know who did it...
it sounds like the girlfriend is lying on the tape...
and not being forthright...

here is the transcript of the whole conversation...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEjDqv1McTg

if you listen to it...

he DOESN'T DENY punishing the child by punching him in the chest...

and that's enough for me...

make a child stand there...open up his arms...and then punch him in his chest...

come on man...
if that doesn't traumatize a child...
much less seriously hurt him...
that's abuse...

Speaking of the Chefs, I don't want to hear any fans whining about how that offsides penalty negated the game clinching INT.

I rewatched the AFCCG again last night (about the fifth or sixth time I've watched it, it's glorious); Gronkowski was getting mugged the whole game, not one DPI penalty called, Edelman got tackled on a crossing route on third down, no call, plus on the Chefs go ahead TD with about 3:00 left, they ran a classic pick play, no call, Romo ID'd it and was amazed it was not called, happened right in front of the side judge, no call.

Also, the Chefs had two drives continued on BS DPI calls on Jackson, one was beyond pathetic; again Romo said "I saw nothing there, bad call"......…..

So the 10 the Chefs got away with evened out on the 1 they did not get away with.

he was a 7th round pick in 2018...
was making 1/2 million at time of accident...
not a fortune to the Dolphins...
but still...
a benevolent gesture...

Apparently Dolphins' owner Art Ross personally approved the roster move so that Norton can collect the salary (not mentioned in the ESPN article).

This is the same owner who was vilified for his request that player's stand for the National Anthem (widely covered by ESPN).

Pre season power rankings are up, top 10 in reverse order;

Bears, Packers, Ravens, Patriots, Eagles, Colts, Chargers, Rams, Chiefs, Saints.

Can't argue with any of those rankings; that looks like the 10 playoff teams barring injuries.

IMO, the Patriots sit fourth in the AFC, they have a huge hole at TE, not sure about their DE's or WR's either.

We'll see.

Sorry George, if you listen to all of the "experts" the Browns are going to go undefeated and unscored upon on their way to winning the Super Bowl.

They are better than Lombardi's Packers, Noll's Steelers, Walsh's Niners and Belichick's Patriots.

Didn't they move to Baltimore?...………………..:wink2:

I think they were ranked 15th or so.

this is a little much for me...
the NFL has no mercy and less compassion...

Tate is trying to get his wife pregnant...
stopped taking this fertility drug after a few days...
and openly notified everyone well before a test was given....

he seems to be forthright about the issue...
I hope he wins his appeal....

he wrote this statement and is going to appeal the decision for a 4 game suspension...

In a statement, Tate said he believes he has a legitimate case to win his appeal.

"This past April, during the off-season, my wife and I decided to see a specialist for fertility planning. I started the treatment prescribed to me and just days later I discovered it contained an ingredient that is on the league's banned substance list," Tate said in a statement. "I immediately discontinued use, I reported the situation to the Independent Administrator of the NFL Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances, and I spoke with my coaches and general manager. I did all of this well before a failed test was even confirmed.

"Per NFL protocol, an initial suspension was imminent, but myself and the Giants organization are confident in the facts, and eagerly await my appeal to put this behind us."

He gets four games for that, while Tyreek Hill gets 0 games.

That seems fair and balanced.
