N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (4 Viewers)

Jason...

Zeke's is the worst of all...
the Dallas organization has stood behind him in every screw up that he has had...
he still has 2 years on his contract...
and he want to renegotiate already...
no honor to the contract...
I would force his hand...
no talks this year...
the fines would eat this years salary up big time...

even though it's only the Hall of Fame Game...
it's encouraging to see the NFL on tv tonight...
not that I'm watching it...
just knowing that regular season is starting soon...

I think he will be in camp by August 6 because Elliott will lose an entire accrued season toward free agency if he doesn't report to camp by that NFL deadline.

Jason...

that is the kicker to the whole story...
the most pressure to get him into camp for sure...

I actually think they wouldn't even levy the daily fines if he showed up...

still...

it's a two sided coin as who has the leverage though...

these outrageous contracts that some teams have given...
Cowboys included on D-Ware...
are really stirring it up for holdouts......

Mike:

When I was home in Texas last week I listened to some local sports talk radio. Of course, most if not all the talk was about Elliot and his holdout.

I don't remember the name of the radio show host but he said something that pretty much silenced all sides of the debate. He said:

In the last ten years or so we have seen holdouts all over the league except for one team, New England.

Jason...

I don't know if he's right or not historically...

but I believe that in recent years...
especially through the latter Brady era...
that could be very true...

I think that Tom Brady's ungrudging willingness to sign and play for contracts lower than what he is worth...
sets a precedent with that team...
he could make more elsewhere...
if you play in NE...
maybe you are not necessarily in NE for the money...
meaning if you will settle for a little less...
and leave more cap space for others...
we can surround you with more talent...
and you have a great chance of winning a SB...

a lot of great players retire without rings...
money isn't everything when you consider an offer of 7 million a year versus 12 million a year...
you should be able to live comfortably on either salary...
lots of players would settle for a little less to get a ring...
to a wealthy player...
without that ring...
that elusive ring becomes very important...

with Brady...
it's a very unselfish act...
a sacrifice which he can afford to make more easliy than others...
but doesn't have to do...
not every player is married to a supermodel or spouse that makes more than they do...

and if it's true...
this may all come to an end after his career ends...

then again...
it may be that every players either respects Belichick...
or is just flat scared to death of him...^&grin

is it my imagination...
or does it seem like there are more social, league and law infractions by players in football...
than in either baseball and basketball?

it seems like baseball players get in much less trouble than either other sport...
especially football...
and basketball too to some degree...

what makes the football players have such a hard time adjusting and staying out of trouble?

I can't help but see new stories single every day on football players screwing up on...
even in the off season...
domestic abuse...drug abuse...child abuse...bar fights...rape...PED abuse...anthem issues...delinquent unpaid bills...alcohol...car wrecks...

not that baseball and basketball players are saints and don't have issues...

but does it seem like football players are by far the worst?

Saw an online article today stating that Josh Gordon has filed for reinstatement.

In the end, Goodell is the one who decides if he will be reinstated.

With him being reinstated, that greatly helps the Patriots if he can keep is act together; so that said, based on how Goodell is basically a puppet for the owners, does anyone in their right mind think he'll approve of the reinstatement?

I will be shocked/stunned/floored/blown away if he lets him play this year.

No way, no how it's going to happen.

No shot.

George...
I hope he does get reinstated...
that might mean there is some hope for Randy Gregory's reinstatement...

Dallas Cowboys defensive end, Randy Gregory, is currently serving an indefinite suspension for repeated violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The NFL is currently enforcing the banishment despite their change of position on the issue and the likelihood his “crimes” will soon no longer be considered “crimes” under the new CBA.

The NFLPA is universally in support of reforming the NFL’s archaic marijuana policy and all indications are the NFL itself has softened their stance and plan to concede on the issue for the next collective bargaining agreement. But by the NFL holding this change in philosophy purely as a bargaining chip in the next CBA negotiation, they are needlessly threatening the careers of players like Randy Gregory, simply for the sake of leverage.

Mike:

I don't think I have ever heard of a player/team coming to an agreement where the team agrees not to use the franchise tag on a player in a future year(s).

There is some real trust between the Patriots and Brady.

-Jason

I trust the organization will honor this agreement and take care of him when the time comes......
by not forcing the franchise tag for $32 million...and taking 23 million...he's giving up 9 million...
NE fans have no idea how fortunate they are to have an unselfish player...

I wish Zeke could honor his contract...

you say yes...you shake a hand...you sign a contract...
be honorable...

Zeke has disrupted the entire system...

I really hope they tell him...
Adios!
we'll stick with Pollard and Morris...
go find another O-line as good as ours to play for and see how you do...

this is a good article on Brady...

Mike:

I was listening to ESPN this morning and Ryan Clark (one of the more respectable commentators) mentioned that Elliot might wait to see what the Cowboys do in the first four games. Elliot thinks he has leverage if they go 1-3 or even 2-2. Clark pointed out that he would essentially be cheering against his teammates while hoping that the team loses. He further mentioned that the players who will be playing in those first four games are well aware of this fact and it is not something that can be easily fixed if and when Elliot signs/joins the team.

Jason...everybody has an opinion...:rolleyes2:...

I have read dozens of them over the last few weeks...

the first 4 games are Giants...Redskins...Dolphins and Saints...if they can manage with Pollard and Morris to go 3-0...screw Zeke...he is going to lose a lot of leverage...if they go 2-2...they will be at what I think is the break even point...anything less than 2 wins...and Jerry better get a new offer together quick...

I'm sick of him...his hold out...his behavior off the field...his lack of honor...

but if he gets it together and helps them...I will love him pretty quick again...^&grin

These are the following players that aren't expected to play tomorrow night because they did not participate in today's walk-through;

Tom Brady
N'Keal Harry
David Andrews
Marcus Cannon
Joe Thuney
Shaq Mason
Sony Michel
Rex Burkhead
James White
James Develin
Michael Bennett
Lawrence Guy
Kyle Van Noy
Dont'a Hightower
Devin McCourty
Patrick Chung
Jon Jones
Jason McCorty
Stephon Gilmore

That's basically 18 of the 22 starters on offense/defense...………...yet the NFL still forces you as a season ticket holder to buy tickets for the two home preseason games.

At full price I might add.

What a scam...……………….just another cash grab by the NFL and it's billionaire owners.

At the expense of their fans.

The other thing that makes me laugh about these games is how there is an actual point spread, meaning you can, and people do, place wagers on them!

only suckers bet on pre-season...
bookies love these guys...
no logic involved in a meaningless game...
it's a coin flip at best...

another favorite of the bookies...
are these super Bowl propositions...

who wins the coin toss...
who scores first...
who gets the first first down...
etc...

nothing but a coin toss...
ask the Magic 8 Ball...

Mike:

I agree except............

The most I have ever won on any bet was when I took a chance in Super Bowl XLI. There was a prop bet regarding the opening kickoff being returned for a touchdown. The odds were huge so I went for it. Sure enough Devin Hester returned it for a TD.

Funny thing is I have never been able to duplicate that success. ^&grin

I'm not gonna lie...
I have tried a few many years ago...
but without the success you had...
