N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (2 Viewers)

All this passionate discussion over stuff that has near zero significance in the real world? And it’s mostly over a bunch of overpaid guys who don’t know or care that any of us exist, employed by organizations that are the playthings of super wealthy elites who also could care less that we exist, or what our opinions are.

Next year many of the players will be different, so really what we’re talking about is brand loyalty to a logo or uniform that, again, doesn’t care about our existence. It only cares that we buy its merchandise, watch its massively dumbed down “entertainment spectacles”, and keep believing we are somehow part of the equation.

Perhaps spending more time engaged with friends, family, pets, the under privileged, the backyard shrubbery, in the gym, out hiking or on general self improvement, would be more productive uses of precious time, resources and energy. Just a thought I had while perusing this thread.

I suppose you could say that about this Forum or forums in general but I find it a pleasant way to spend some time, not to mention that I’ve learned a lot about a variety of topics on the three forums I frequent. Of course, you can spend too much time on internet discussions to the detriment of other activities.

When I first heard about this story yesterday, my first thought was "And Doug will post a link to the story in the forum in three...……...two...………….one"...………

The league is going to drop the hammer on them and well they should.

They are either incredibly stupid or incredibly arrogant and based on Kraft and his escapades, them signing the toxic Antonio Brown and now this, I'm going with stupid.

I think they should force Kraft to step down and sell the team and Belichick should get a lifetime ban.

Oh, and they get to keep 4 of the 6 SB Championships, they have to vacate the two vs the Rams.

You know; like USC had to vacate their championship under Pete the poodle after they got caught cheating.

Pretty convenient this story broke after that ****show of a performance by the referees Sunday; anything to distract people away from that tire fire and what better way than to show everyone how the Patriots are at it again.

And really; the Bengals? You filmed the Bengals? And really; in todays NFL, the Bengals still use hand signals? No wonder they are 1-12...………….carrier pigeons would be more effective...……………………...get the popcorn ready, this is going to be great entertainment, can't wait to read all the links to stories that are going to get posted here over the next week or so, should be some real doozies...………………..

I’m not saying being on the Internet is bad (obviously, here I am), or saying spending time conversing over it with friends / fellow collectors is bad. Not at all. It’s that the zealousness time money energy spent WATCHING sports and really CARING deeply about who wins or what happens to some player we don’t and never will personally know seems kind of....lame. To me, at least.

FWIW; to everyone outside of New England, the perspective was already that they are cheaters.

I don't think this makes it any worse.

IE, I DO NOT CARE what anyone thinks of the Patriots, so go on and on about this story all you want, I DON'T CARE.

this is all gonna blow over in a couple of days and that will be the end of it...hopefully...

Ruledge...you have made similar posts in the past about what a meaningless sport and any discussion about the NFL is...you kind of mock this thread as a waste of "our time"...as there are more important things in life...but still I see you back on here again...occasionally repeating that theme...I gotta ask...if following sports is so lame as you call it...why do you waste your time on this thread?

most guys on here are pretty passionate about their local sports...it seems you are not...but you still follow and post on this thread...

how bout them Astros...they are being accused of cheating too...

Back in 2014 the Patriots lost to the Chiefs and pundits across the league wrote them off, they played the Bengals the following week and the rallying cry was "It's on to Cincinnati"...………...

Now they lose again to the Chiefs and once again the pundits across the league are writing them off, they are playing the Bengals this week and once again, the rallying cry is "It's on to Cincinnati"...………...……

Factor in the latest controversy and...……...…….I would not want to be the Bengals on Sunday.

We'll see if history repeats itself.

i did not use words like meaningless. I think sports are fun to watch, in moderation. No doubt lots of guys love to talk sports.

I used to really care about pro and major college sports when I was younger. Now, they are like movies or a tv show. Entertainment that at the end of the day has zero, zilch, nada impact upon my life, win or lose. Note: I don’t bet on them. A childhood friend did, and committed suicide over his losses.

What I think is a waste is tying ones own value, worth or self pride in the performance of a team in which one has no involvement, influence or connection whatsoever. Cheering from the couch/afar is a purely passive act. That just seems silly. Sure cheer for “your” team but regardless of whose team wins or loses, neither had a **** thing to do with it. So I don’t understand how a teams victory gives anyone boasting privileges other than the players and staff on the team itself.

And surely those folks we see on TV brawling over team loyalists have to be some of the dumbest folks alive. Might as well get in a fight over the weather.

I am not sure what to make of this season? Going into Week 15 only 3 teams have secured playoff births (2 Divisions and 1 Wild-Card).

Fun NFL fact-

Not sure if you guys saw the Dallas/Giants game on Halloween but a black cat ran onto the field- it was really cute.

BUT!!! It probably wasn't too cute for the 4 NFL teams that are named after "cats" - the Bengals, Jags, Panthers and Lions are 1-18 since that cat ran onto the field- the one win was the Bengals first!!

That is a cool bit of info!

The Ravens are having a great season but it should be noted that their offense is a one-trick pony named Jackson. Off-day, injury, or a defense that bottles him up, and the Ravens are toast. It is a bubble that can burst in the playoffs, or a bubble that carries through to the SB. We shall see. -- Al
Sure wasn't an off-day or otherwise against the Jets last night. Jackson threw 5 Td passes as the Ravens pasted the Jets 42-21. Jackson has now set the NFL rushing record for a Qb with 1103 yards and also leads the NFL with 33 Td passes against 6 interceptions. He is fun to watch. -- Al

Chris...it wasn't too cute for Dallas either...they are 1-4 after that game...

Yes, sports is mostly silly and pointless. A way to pass the time. There are some people who you simply can't have a rational discussion with on certain topics. They lose all perspective. Imagine defending a team that has repeatedly been caught cheating. Then suggesting others are "paranoid" for even raising it (a major news story) and then claiming they are the one who is rude. It's laughable. If that nonsense had come from a Pats homer it would be one thing. I can understand George or some other true Pats fans defending any conduct. That's what most fans do. But it is hilarious being lectured by others here who tell us things like there is nothing to see. I'm a Pats "hater" or obsessed with them. I could care less about the Pats. My impression of them was formed growing up. Mostly as the AFC doormats. In recent years, they have become a great dynasty but tainted by their zeal to gain a competitive edge. But when someone tells me that filming the sidelines of an upcoming opponent is a non-issue because the Browns consented to the filming (they couldn't consent to filming the Bengals sidelines in violation of NFL rules) and that I should simply be quiet because he doesn't like it for reasons unknown and falsely believes himself a moderator of this forum that is not only wrong but rude. And today we learn the NFL is going to drop the hammer. So I await his correction and apology.

Cowboys off to an amazing start today in a must win game...
gonna find a whole new way to lose today...

here's a new way to screw up...

even though they won the coin toss and said they would kick off...
the official said Dak did not say the word defer...
however...
after replaying the video several times on tv...
he definitely said defer...
clear as day....
but due to a so called miss communication with the referee...
the Rams received the opening kickoff...
and will now receive the second half kickoff...
that basically equates to a turnover before the game even started...

so they kicked off with a new kicker...
it went out of bounds and the Rams got to start at the 40...
wooooohoooo!
attaway...

then after holding the Rams to 3-10 on their first drive...
they got called for defensive pass interference so the Ram's got a first down...

who is teaching these guys...
who is coaching?

update...
right before the start of the second half...
they reversed the decision and made the Rams kick off...
the referee admitted that Dak said "defer" when he saw the video replay...

It's pretty strange to reverse the coin toss at halftime. But here is something novel. I won't blame the Rams loss today which effectively ends their season on the refs, or a conspiracy of haters or the sun shining in their eyes. They got outplayed by a better team. See how easy that is? A better team beat them. There is no conspiracy. I also won't pretend to be a Ravens or 49ers fan after my team (like the Jets) is eliminated. That would be to behave like a weasel.

that whole coin toss was pretty strange...
maybe the ref just didn't hear him...
they showed/heard it on video replay...
that line opened with Dallas as a 4 1/2 point favorite...
everybody...and almost including me...bet on the Rams...
the closing line was LA - 1 1/2....
a 6 point swing...
Vegas might clean up on this game...

They heard him. He said they wanted to "kick". For some reason the ref asked him again and he apparently said kick and defer. They should have made the decision at that point instead of reversing at halftime and not letting the teams know. But again it made no difference to the outcome. The Cowboys were the better team today. I won't claim a conspiracy or suggest the refs should be fired. This was a must win game for the Cowboys at home. They have the number one offense. The Rams haven't played well on the road. Goff has been inconsistent all season with no running game. The chickens came home to roost. The Chargers phoned in a game against the Vikes to end any playoff hopes for the Rams. The only good news is that Philip Rivers is officially done.

yes it was a must win game for the Cowboys and Garrett...
and that was really uncharacteristic of the Rams to give up 263 on the ground...
just one of those days...
officiating didn't seem too bad...
that's where the expression "On any given Sunday" comes from...
I didn't expect a win...but glad they are still in it...
Jalen Ramsey totally shut down Cooper...

49ers seem to have run into a “trap” game,” plus they have several injuries. Part of the growing process for a young team. Seahawks appear to be back in the driver’s seat but there are still two games to go.
