N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (1 Viewer)

This seems to be a common denominator year after year after year. The league seems to keep throwing some kind of Band Aid to try and fix the problem but it is still there. I agree with everything that has been said on the Pats/ KC game. Additionally, I don't know how close many of you were watching the Saints/9ers game but in the third quarter the Saints received takes off down the sideline and the kid from the 9ers just grabs hold of his shoulder pads, runs down the field with him and then throw him to ground out of bounds- no flag- wait???? WHAT???? How is that not at least holding???? And what about that non roughing the passer call on Trubitsky on Thanksgiving.......

The game moves at the speed of light and there is human error. Still, they have the option to use technology which slows the game down and makes it easier to pick out details. Fundamentally, this is football- there are tens times the games at the collegiate level yet you rarely hear the outcry of poor officiating (the Auburn-LSU game being an anomaly obviously). So what is it with the NFL vs the NCAA that makes those games seem to go so much smoother than the NFL does? Most of these refs, from my understanding, are attorneys or what not- on paper they appear to be very bright and successful- so what is it that leads to this every year- every broadcast now has an official in the broadcasting booth with them and it seems like more and more each year they are even in disagreement with the calls on the field. It doesn't appear like most of the time the ref's are making a judgment call based on their interpretation- they just seem to be flat out blowing completely obvious calls.

I don't get it- it just seems so strange. The trickle down effect on these constant errors are just magnified and costly to all parties involved on the wrong end of the calls. I often wonder if the NFL simply has too many rules on the book or too many rules with too ambiguous language. It just seems like the NCAA has a reasonably effective system in place that works whereas the NFL it just gets worse and worse each year.

Agree. I did see that saints game. He was held by the sleeve for 40 yards!!!! How do you miss that!!!

Regarding the video taping.... I’ll wait to see what’s on the video, etc but if they’re cheating FOR REAL, punish them. I’m a big fan, but am also a fan of a clean game. But still, I want to know what’s on the tapes etc.

Neither the Rams nor Steelers played particularly well. It's impossible to know who would have won that game if that call goes another way. It was a game deciding call because the game was decided by only 5 points. The only difference is that it went in favor of your team. That's ok. I don't begrudge homers pulling for their team but you can't distinguish that from the Pats game. My point was that such calls happen. Sometimes they go your way and sometimes not. I would be more concerned that the Pats just got caught once again cheating by filming the sidelines during the Cleveland and Cincy game. Incredible. Belichick can't help himself. Of course, he knows nothing about it. A film crew from the team is caught red handed but Belichick doesn't look at their film. Good grief. Time to bring the hammer down.

We will agree to disagree, I am not a Pats fan as has been said a million times, but there is no comparison to the crime of officiating in the games. The calls in the PATS game determined the outcome of the game, no ifs ands or buts. IT is quite easy to distinguish.

I compare it to the Saints/Rams game of last year. If the correct Pass interference is called, then Saints go to the SB. Again, it 100% determined the outcome of the game.

Regarding the filming, in the words of ESPN - C'mon man? Do you seriously think in any logical sense that the Pats would risk all that comes with that to scout a 1 and 12 team??????????? I don't believe that for a second. That is just too stupid for words and one word I would never equate to Billy Belli is the word stupid. He just is not that.

George got it right. The ref errors are usually blatant misses or bad calls that could be fixed with a video review before they can't be changed

The common denominator of your reasoning seems to be if the call goes against the Rams then it was not "game deciding" because they were not playing well but if it goes in their favor it is. Somehow discerning how these calls would impact the outcome. My opinion is that questionable calls happen in all games. If the Rams or Patriots wanted to win, they should have played better to overcome the bad calls. They didn't.

In term of the most recent Pats scandal, with their track record they should go the extra mile to make sure there is not even in appearance of impropriety. Belichick runs a tight ship. He knew exactly what was going on. His Sgt. Schultz routine has grown old ("I know nothing"). It's either "stupid" to be recording the sideline of the next team you play because you don't understand the rules or it's "stupid" to do so with the intent to cheat. Either way it was a stupid thing to do. The only question that remains is whether it was with the intent to cheat. The Pats are spinning this as some type of TV show - LOL. It gives them an excuse to film whatever they want and then cover up if they get caught. It is outrageous. Particularly for the same team and coach that has been caught red handed at this multiple times.

The taping is a non issue. They had the Browns’ permission. Next.

Incorrect. The Pats even acknowledged it was inappropriate. They had permission to film some type of "show" but not to film the Bengals sidelines. That is called spying on your next opponent and is a violation of the rules. Per ESPN:

"The New England Patriots acknowledged that their production crew inappropriately filmed the field and sideline during Sunday's game between the Bengals and Browns in Cleveland and accepted full responsibility in a statement released Monday night."

Interesting stat: Eli Manning started last night's Giant game, and loss, to the Eagles. It was Eli's 235th career start and with the loss, his career record as a starter is now 116-117. The 2-time SB champ is now under .500 for his career. The way things are going for the Giants, it's not likely Eli will be able to square his record, but the Giants do have a remaining game against the Redskins so there is a chance if Eli gets the start. -- Al

And this, https://www.cbsnews.com/news/patrio...t-was-filming-documentary-series-do-your-job/

Maybe you could tone down your Patriots paranoia once in awhile.

How about toning down your rudeness with the name calling? There is no "paranoia" here. This is a news story. Contrary to your false claim, the fact that the Browns approved filming a show does not mean it was a non-issue to film the Bengals sidelines during a game. That is a violation of the NFL's rules which is why it is being investigate. The Pats have already admitted their conduct was inappropriate. It could very well be that there was no intent to cheat but it was nevertheless inappropriate and a violation of the rules. It could also very well be that the Pats used this as pretext to cheat.

It's the NFL guys where even the process of a simple catch gets stuck in the quagmire of an operational definition. If you continue to watch you will be continually frustrated.

For you to be calling someone rude or alleging name calling is amusing to say the least. Pot, meet kettle. Enjoy your day.

The Patriots will get a fine here, but as far as the willful intent to cheat by filming a 1 and forever team, uh Nah, just don't see the juice for that squeeze. I think it was a mistake or maybe an overzealous film crew, but I don't see the "arch villain Billy B" having anything to do with such an idiotic idea. Uh, no just don't buy it. I think people are looking for a story here.

All this passionate discussion over stuff that has near zero significance in the real world? And it’s mostly over a bunch of overpaid guys who don’t know or care that any of us exist, employed by organizations that are the playthings of super wealthy elites who also could care less that we exist, or what our opinions are.

Next year many of the players will be different, so really what we’re talking about is brand loyalty to a logo or uniform that, again, doesn’t care about our existence. It only cares that we buy its merchandise, watch its massively dumbed down “entertainment spectacles”, and keep believing we are somehow part of the equation.

Perhaps spending more time engaged with friends, family, pets, the under privileged, the backyard shrubbery, in the gym, out hiking or on general self improvement, would be more productive uses of precious time, resources and energy. Just a thought I had while perusing this thread.

This is a thread about the nfl - we're discussing the nfl.
Doesn’t mean we don’t see friend and actually talk to them too 😀
