N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (1 Viewer)

Nothing sums up California more than 2 teams debuting a $5 billion dollar stadium void of any fans.

I heard the Rams put some statues in front of the stadium to honor the fearsome foursome, Eric Dickerson and that referee crew that did the NFCCG in New Orleans a couple of years ago.

This may well be a little harsh, but funny nonetheless!

Just to be clear, I view these types of comments funny in that if we were all sitting around a chat breaking balls, this is funny. I think we all tend to take sports comments a little too seriously and if there is one thing the latest State of Affairs related to the pandemic, politics and sports has taught me is that a sense of humor, humility, class and common sense has generally gone out the window and is needed in great demand.

It's sports, the toybox of life..............anyone over the age of 14 who takes sports seriously needs a check up from the neck up.

There was show on HBO if I recall a number of years ago that profiled 4 "adult" pro sports fans and how they blow gaskets in their houses watching pro sports, making total ***** out of themselves.

My whole attitude changed about sports after watching that.

If said it before and I'll say it again; my life doesn't change win or lose, the sun comes up the next day and everything is going to be alright regardless......................

Not that into football but curious to see how Brady plays with Tampa today.
I'm sure we'll hear from some fans and critics.

Shock o' the day - The Wskins have defeated the Eagles 27-17, after trailing 17-0. Hail to the Redskins, on to the Super Bowl.{sm3} -- Al

Wow, good for them; maybe the Iggles can swing a trade with the Bears to bring Folsie back so he can run their Harry High School offense again.

The Cam Newton era began today with a 21-11 win over spinach chin and the Dolphins.

My initial impressions;

He's got a strong arm, threw some frozen ropes today

He's BIG; not just tall but he's big, I'd venture to guess about 270 or so?

It's refreshing to see the RPO, there were several handoffs that froze the defense, it's fun to watch

Keep it going next week Cam.........................I love the guy, a larger than life personality, very charismatic, I'm glad he's my QB, he's easy to root for.

I watched that game...I know it was against Miami...but he individually looked pretty good for his first game...especially seemed comfortable with McDaniels's system...I know Newton loves Edelman...and bet Brady misses him...

The OC worked with Cam's strengths vs trying to fit a square peg into a round hole and keep the old Brady offense installed, Cam works the RPO very well.

I love how they changed the offense in the second half from run heavy to pass heavy.

Just keep feeding Cam the offense and let him get comfortable...........................love the guy.............................

Nice to see most of the Cowboy players standing for the National Anthem. I'm not sure what Jones told them but it seems to be working. Too bad the other NFL owners caved. Good game. Hate the Rams uniforms but the stadium is spectacular. Not sure why they can't let at least some fans into a mammoth place like that but that's California. At least it hasn't burned to the ground yet.

Not sure if anyone saw this, but not surprisingly, initial ratings show a near 25% decline across the board yesterday with some games/demo/timeslot down near 30. Interesting.

Interesting indeed. I guess the NFL will always have their betting and fantasy audiences watching, but that drop in viewership for an opening weekend is sharp/significant, and I'm not surprised.
I had already retired from watching the NFL, but now I'm even further gone. It's just not part of my routine anymore. I used to love it so very much- talk football for hours with friends, read all the scouting mags, go to games, buy stuff, and generally salivate when thinking of an approaching season. I think there were times when I suffered some form of withdrawal symptoms in the off season! But it's not for me anymore for many reasons. I don't like the direction the game in general has gone, and now politics has buried it for good. It's always a weird feeling to go from being so passionate about something to having no interest. So now there's more time to work on my dioramas and painting!!:smile2:

The only game I watch in its entirety is the SB. I might watch 3-partial games during the season. In short, I'm not a football fan, but yesterday I was curious about how the Pats would do without Brady and how Brady would do with Tampa. Newton did a great job with the Pats. I was hoping Brady would pull a miracle, like he had done many times with the Pats, but it was not meant to be.

I watched some highlights on ESPN.

My favorite one was when Joshua Jacobs of the Raiders scored a touchdown then made the shush motion towards the crowd.

Wait, what? According to the official box score there was “No person in attendance”.

I watched the 49er game (no choice as my son is a big fan) but very little other than that. Given my druthers I would have watched the US Open final.

Can't make too much of week one under the circumstances. No preseason, teams looked a bit rusty but the Bills look surprisingly good. They may finally give the Pats some competition in that awful division. A big test for the Pats against Seattle this week. My Rams were a mixed bag. The D and O-line looked much improved but Goff is still shaky. They reconfigured the entire offense to cover for his inability to make plays under pressure. Now it is mostly quick throws. Wentz is also really stinking it up with the Eagles. They somehow blew a 17-0 lead over the Deadskins. What a pathetic sight the Deadkins are under Dirty Danny. They don't even have a name or symbol to put on their helmets. A smoldering ruin of management (second only to the NY Knicks as the absolute worst in all professional sports) but some good young players.
