UMd actually was doing allright but Miami closed with a 14-1 run going into the half. Terps are just having real trouble putting a complete effort together. Just going to take time. -- AlMD signs the number 17 recruiting class in the country. Not bad for coach Turgeon. Includes a 6'9" center who is supposed to be pretty good.
Miami leads 34-23 at half. Stoglin 2-9 shooting. :redface2: Chris
They lost the game but in all the years (since 1968) that I have watched Terp b-ball, I cannot remember a more valiant effort with a 'no surrender' attitude ever exhibited by a UMd team. They were down by 16 points, their coach ejected, with only 7+ minutes left, yet managed to tie the game before losing in double OT, on the road. Sorry to see the loss, but it was a tremendous game and bodes well for the team as it developes more exprience. -- AlUMd actually was doing allright but Miami closed with a 14-1 run going into the half. It was a great game. Came back from 16 down with 7 minutes left and were still down by 11 with 5 left. Their defensive play was outstanding as their full court press wilted Miami. Shame they lost. Turgeon got ejected at around the 7 minute mark with the Terps trailing by 11. He argued a crucual (and borderline) charging call against the Terps. He got too 'expressive', and drew the double tech and got pitched. Miami turned the double tech into 5 points and led by 16. The Terps looked dead. UMd called TO and came out of the TO on fire, thus the comeback. -- AlSounds like a great game Al (greater still if they had won). Wish I had seen it. Why was Turgeon ejected? Chris
Saw that in the paper this AM. Quite an accomplishment. Hope it continues.{bravo}} -- AlI gotta give a shout out to my alma mater - The Murray State University Racers 22-0!!
Jim
They are playing real well. If they could control the defensive boards a little better, they would be in better shape, but I'll take the lead at home and be happy. This team has developed into a real scrappy bunch. -- AlMD by 3 at the half. As good as I've seen them play. Len is having a good game. He's going to develop into an excellent player. Go TERPS! Chris

Thx, Al..
Murray State has been very good over the years in their conference (Ohio Valley), but as a "mid major" they don't get a lot of national attention.. I'm afraid when they do lose a game - they will drop drastically in the polls... It could still be possible that they would have to win their conference tournament to get a bid to the tournament.
A side note: the best player out of Murray State is probably Popeye Jones, who played several years in the NBA, mostly with the Mavericks..

I am optimistic for next year. I like the fight in the team. A little more experience, a little more depth, and some board help, and I think you are right. The Terps will be back in the mix. Next year will be fun. -- AlTerps are right on the edge of becomming a top team, maybe next season (am I a little too enthusiastic?). A little more experience and need another presence on the boards to help Len, who had a big game. We have a good center signed up for next yr. Chris
Geez Peter, never IS a long time. Here's hoping the boys can make it this year. Nice to see some new teams every year. Who will be the next George Mason? -- AlEvery once in a while you see a stat, "# of years since the last NCAA Tournament..." Sometimes teams go 5 years between...sometimes 10...but my alma mater always wins the day...NEVER. In the HISTORY of the NCAA Tournament, Northwestern has never made the big dance! (in fact, when I was a student, we went 0-18 in the Big Ten one year...)
Last night we won on the road at #25 Illinois. We have a nice win over Michigan State. Our losses are to teams that don't really count against you too much. We stand at 14-8 (4-6 in the tough Big 10). We actually have a couple very talented players (John Shurna and Drew Crawford). Maybe...just maybe...this is our year!
