I can hardly wait.{sm2}:rolleyes2:^&grin -- AlTerps vs UNC tonight at 7:00 on ESPN. :rolleyes2: Chris
Conventional wisdom is that Northwestern needs to split their games this week to get in. Ohio State tonight (there's a loss...) and on the road at Iowa on Saturday (and I have tickets!).
I don't know if my nerves can take it!
Terps lost real ugly to UNC. As has been the Terps pattern, they stayed reasonably close for three quarters of the game and then exhaustion and the talent gap caught up to them and UNC went on something like a 21-2 tear, putting the game away. It wasn't pretty. UMd has done some positive things this season and as a result have done better than I ever expected. They will finish above .500 in a season where I thought they would be fortunate to get 10 wins, total. I think next season should be a lot more fun for them and the fans. -- Al
It was great to see Murray State on ESPN yesterday (not ESPN 2 or 3 or ESPNU), with Dickie V. working the game.. And how about Isaiah Cannan? Nice to see the Racers bounce back with a couple of nice wins after their first loss.
Jim
Another tough loss for the Terps, today. Dropped in OT by Virginia. Another game where UMd fell behind by double figures in the 2nd half but managed to hang in and tie in regulation. ACC Tourny is next. Could be a short run for the Terps. Would like to see them win at least the opener. -- Al
Hey Chris, Terps took it to WF in the opening tourney game. UMd looked real good, for a change. Especially played well in the 2nd half. Were up by 29 at one point until they cleared the bench and ended up winning by 22. The run to the title has begun!:rolleyes2:{sm3}{sm3} -- Al
Chris, Terps got beaten by UNC. Just plain beaten in all aspects of the game. BIG talent gap, but the Terps played till the end. Team finishs at 17-15, which is a lot better than I expected. I expected a 20 loss season, so I am impressed. They just landed another big front court recruit, so next year should be an improvement. It would be nice to see them improve enough to get back to the dance. It's been awhile. There is a possibility that this years team could get an NIT invitation. If so, a good run could get them 20 wins. That would be something. -- Al
Hi Chris. Interesting that you raise the question about Stoglin. Big article in the Post sports section addressing this today. It seems Stoglin intends to 'test the waters' in regards to the NBA, but professes that his real interest is to return to UMd and help get the team back into the NCAA playoffs. Good news, if he means it. Just as a side-note, Stoglin ended up leading the ACC in scoring with a 21.2 point per game average. However, he did not make the All-ACC first team but had to settle for second team. I'm glad to see the ACC anti-Maryland bias continues healthy and strong.:rolleyes2: -- AlTotally agree Al, better than expected season. Front court help is a big need. Wonder if Stoglin will return. Chris
Wildcats and Tarheels both lose their tournament final!{eek3} Couple of big upsets. What's the world coming to? -- Al
I see that Kentucky and Duke have drawn the Southern bracket together. Would love to see them square off again. Without wanting to stir up painful memories for Wildcat fans, the 1992 game between the two was the best college b-ball game I have ever seen, even better than Valvano's win over Phi-Slamma-Jamma. Those two games, along with the classic 1974 NC State vs Maryland ACC Championship game, (won by State 103-100 in OT), are my all-time favorite trio, even though the UMd loss was especially painful to me, as a UMd junior at the time. Maybe Kentucky and Duke can give us another classic. -- AlYeah, UK goes down, couldn't finish. Louisville and Western KY both win their conference tournaments. Four Kentucky teams go to the dance. :smile2:
Re: Stoglin, think he would have been 1st Team ACC if he played for Duke or UNC (think I know the answer)? Chris
