NCAA Football 2023 (2 Viewers)

Best moment of the Navy-ND game. Navy is down 42-0 in the 4th quarter. They have zero passing yards but get a first down on a short run play and the commentator says "Nice play, but I'm not sure they can come back." That was fugly. Navy's 1912 offense is no longer cutting it. ND beat them like a drum. The commentators kept claiming that Navy would never give up and before the words were out of his mouth ND would score another touchdown. The ND QB is 24 years old has been in college longer than Bluto from Animal House.

My bad. I didn’t realize you made the rules.

Of the two universities from which I graduated, neither were Division I. In fact one, Emory, does not even have a football team. The other, Sewanee, is Division 3. It once played in the SEC, but that was many years ago. I did take some classes at GA State, which is part of the University of Ga school system. At the time it did not offer any intercollegiate sports.

I have good friends who are UGA and Ga Tech alum. I also know several of their former football players. I live within spitting distance of Ga Tech, and pass near by UGA whenever I travel into the Carolinas.

But by your “logic” I’m supposed to either not support a Div I college team. Or pick one from faraway with which I have absolutely zero natural connection. Yeah that makes perfect sense.

So, Im afraid I absolutely reject your absurd notion that a person with no formal big school connections can’t root for a nearby team. Especially when I’ve been doing so since I first moved to Atlanta as a 4 yr old.

Somehow you argue the farther away one lives from a school, the more reasonable it is for that person to be a fan of a faraway team. Hmmm. The “logic” eludes me.

Thanks for that lucid, well written retort.

You have a gift for putting words into peoples mouths and twisting their words around into the shape of a pretzel to cram them into whatever narrative you're trying to present.

You've taken what I've written and put two and two together and somehow turned it into 22, well done.

Sorry, I can't make heads or tails out of the gibberish you're trying to pin on me; go right ahead and glom onto the UGA success there Harry, whatever helps you sleep at night.

Yep, Navy's offense needs a Keenan Reynolds to run it if they want to run with the big boys. Without a Reynolds type, they can't compete with the upper echelon teams. -- Al

Not a huge fan of the rule change that doesn't stop the clock after a first down. It's really going to cut back on the number of drives in a game and ability to come from behind. Interested to see how much it cuts back the numbers on offense.

My Trojans looked a lot like the same team from last year. Great offense. Lousy defense. If Caleb Williams gets hurt, they are in major trouble. He is a generational player when healthy. Maybe the next Mahomes.

Watch it guys! This is off topic.

I'll be deleting rude and unnecessary comments shortly.

Interesting game tonight between Florida and Utah. The Utes are tough at home. Not sure if the Utah QB is playing but if so, they should win. I'm going with Utah 38 Florida 20.

Florida looked like a hot mess last night getting rolled by the Utes even with a backup QB. Fans can't be happy.

They should call this "cupcake" week. Some really lopsided matchups today. Here is what we have to look forward to:

East Carolina vs Michigan

Tennessee State vs Notre Dame

Portland St. vs Oregon

UT Martin vs Georgia

Middle Tennessee vs Alabama

Coastal Carolina vs UCLA

The NCAA should be embarrassed by the mismatches going on today. Oregon is winning 81-7. Oklahoma won 63-0. Ole Miss won 73-7. And on and on.

The PAC is off to a 12-0 start with wins over Florida, Boise State, and TCU.

The hype for Deion and Colorado is really off the charts after only one game. He basically has assembled a semi-pro team. So it's no surprise that they are vastly improved. Good to see Brian Kelly get a spanking last night with LSU. He is one of the biggest phonies in all college football. A decent coach, though. Next week Woke Sark and the Horns should get their trip to the woodshed against Nick Satan and the Tide. I think Old Nick shows no mercy.

My sons are FSU fans from our time of living in Florida, so we're happy with the results. BTW, took my oldest son, now 41, to a FUS-MD (My alma mater) game in the early 1990's. FSU spanked the Terps (didn't everybody?). We sat with the QB and his brother a wide out, from the very first FSU 1947 team. Chris

Great weekend. Go Noles nice thumping on Brian Kelly!!! And Hook em. Hopefully they shock Darth Sabin but that is probably a pipe dream. And congrats to my all time fave Neon Deion. Way to fo buffalos although my cousin a frog is sad. I think anyone e playing sanders on the opener was in for a rude awakening!

Dabo's 15-minutes are up. Clemson was shockingly bad last night. Losing to Duke. I couldn't believe the lack of talent on the Clemson offense. Their QB looked frightened. So many mistakes, turnovers, missed kicks. LSU, Florida, and Clemson all got a major beatdown in week one. TCU is also out of the running with a loss to Colorado.

Caleb Williams is making around $3 million in NIL money while playing at USC. That is unreal. It also changes the dynamic on the NFL draft. You have to wonder how long that the best players will go to the worst NFL teams. Here is what his dad said"

"The funky thing about the NFL draft process is, he'd almost be better off not being drafted than being drafted first," Carl Williams said in a recent interview for GQ. "The system is completely backwards. The way the system is constructed, you go to the worst possible situation. The worst possible team, the worst organization in the league -- because of their desire for parity -- gets the first pick. So it's the gift and the curse."

It's cupcake Week 2. Some real barnburners to watch this weekend:

Ball St. vs Georgia

Youngstown St vs Ohio St. (who knew Youngstown had a football team much less a state?)

Delaware vs Penn. St.

Charleston Southern vs Clemson (imagine how happy Charleston must be to go into Clemson after a whole week of Dabo reading that he is finished)

Game of week: Texas vs Bama. If anyone other than Cutty Sark was coaching the Horns, I would be pulling for them but I can't bring myself to pull for "seven-win" Sark. The great thing about this game is that either Nick Satan or "Have a drink on me " Sark will leave a loser. Old Nick has been grumpy. I think he takes Sark to the woodshed.

Bama 49
Texas 24

You never fail to disappoint with your predictions, well done.................^&grin

In the “new” college football age it is amazing that Navy got a first down let alone 3 points.

Service Academy “student” athletes are not allowed to collect NIL money. And while the Academies were already handcuffed by the strictest admission requirements in college sports, the transfer portal now allows students/players to seamlessly transfer after two years, thus avoiding their military service requirements.

Maybe Navy’s 1912 offense is ugly but watching it fills me with a sense of pride. Most if not all of the juniors and seniors on those teams will never play professionally but they might actually die in service to our country.

I don't disagree that they play at a substantial talent disadvantage, but that does not preclude them from ever using a forward pass. Maybe the time is coming for the service academies to play lesser teams. My comments relate only to football. Not whether their players are smarter or better people than other teams. That is a low bar as most football players at major programs couldn't spell "cat" if you spotted them a "c" and "t".

Great win for Texas and Sark.

It won’t change anything when it comes to the “playoff”.

Here is how it will play out:

Texas will fade and lose a few games but when the final “votes” are tallied Alabama’s lose will be noted as a them losing to one of the all-time great teams as they are voted into the CFP.
