Guys,
Just acquired these.
Allegedly "V. old Trophy Grenadier Guards Sudan", |I'm sceptical.
They came in an old white Trophy box but no markings on the base of figures, so any assistance greatly appreciated.
Regards
Clive

Hello Clive
It's what I usually call " a full circle" :)

I sold this set to a guy at eBay about a year ago. I have seen him then trying to sell this set at local Toy Soldiers shows couple times before...

I got this set originally from a private collection sale which had a lot of Trophys and other brands... obviously an original owner was a serious collector. They are Trophy all right...

I do not think this is a Sudan regiment rather Artist Rifles, I have Artist Rifles set made by HM of GB and their uniforms look almost identical....

I was with Clive when he bought the set and I believe the seller was a dealer from Whitehouse Station in NJ. Can't remember his name but I think he and his partner go by the name of something brothers or something like that. I have seen him in Chicago a couple of times as well as the Secaucus show.

It is about right, Brad
I talked with him at the show when he tried to sell me this set ( it was pretty funny because he did not know that it was me who had sold this set to him at eBay :)
He told me that he was half French ( on his mother's side) and traveled to France pretty often...

Hi Al,
Thanks for the info, it's always intriguing to find how these sets move around the world.
I liked the standard bearer with the crown on the staff which made me buy it Trophy or no.
That was a clue as the flag staff doesn't fit well in the box.
Just to be clear are you saying it is HM or simply that the uniforms are similar?
Anyone else got any thoughts?
Not sure who the seller was but we had a nice chat, although his opening was " please buy the set I'm sick of trawling it around shows"
Regards
Clive

Clive,
I believe it is a very early Trophy set, prior to markings on the base...You can also see in the painting of the faces. I guess Mr. Taylor would be the final say:cool:

Hello Clive,
This is a Trophy not a HM, I was just saying that the uniforms in both sets looked similar.

Not sure about these Clive, I don't have any catalogue descriptions prior to 1991. They could be very old Trophy, maybe from their "Soldiers of the British Empire" range.

Cheers

Martyn:)

Thks Martyn,
Maybe Len will be able to give a pointer.
I assume you'll be at the show end March?
We should plan our attack on the Belgian Museum guy!!!
I'll be on my stand but be sure to come and say hello.

Clive

Hello: These figures do not look like Trophy to me. Where is the "TM" Trophy Miniatures trade mark on the bottom of the stands? Also the figures seem a bit too skinny to be Trophy figures. Len Taylor would be the one to contact to verify these figures as Trophy or not as he is a member of the Forum since a few weeks ago.

Well, early Trophys did not have "TM" mark on the base to start with, then it was a transparent sticker with a Trophy name on it, and then "TM" mark, at the best of my knowledge...
Early Trophys WERE skinny by the way. I will post here PART 3 of my recent findings of "skinny" Trophys :)

I would say not.
Let us wait for Len.

I do not know either, but I love the hairdos on the Fuzzy Wuzzies! Hopefully Len will know

I stake my Toy Soldier Rep on these being Trophy. As stated, early Trophy's didn't have markings at all. I can show you numerous examples, but Boer Boys post shows a great deal.
