Exactly Mitch. Everyone who makes a series of dio's just put them in one thread. We've always enjoyed a mix of chat, dio's , pics etc and its always worked well. But now a large part of it will be taken away and simply won't be viewed as much. Look at the suggestions threads, I understand why it was done because one person was determined to swamp threads with list after list of requests, but look how many people go there, not that many if we are honest. Lets just see how it works with Waynepoo putting his dio's in one thread.

I didn't quite get how we moved from folk being able to access their favorite dio pics to overwhelming the K&C Forum; I like the original idea of a K&C dio section, which still allows individual posts grouped as K&C Dios - the other sounds like 'old boys just wanna have fun'; great thread but hardly the same thing, and a bit closed to any newcomers to the hobby. :wink2:

Why is it closed to newcomers? The Old boys want to have fun is not saying old boys of the forum, its a play on the ' Girls just wanna have fun ' title. Old boys as in boys and their toys:rolleyes2: Everybody is welcome and I think you know that. Don't know whats wrong with some folk around here lately.

Hi mate, it has never been closed, just attach and post. Have no fear, everyone welcome.

Why don't you just make this the new Diorama section..............................................^&grin
Starting with a old classic and close to K&C best set.

Which is exactly why it is a great thread Rob - it's fun; however, as someone who joined in 2012 speaking to someone who has been posting since 2005, I'd find it very difficult to wend my way through a single thread of that size looking for a particular photo - the single thread suffers from the same disadvantage that Shannon originally described for someone searching the plethora of individual threads for particular inspiration or even a particular era. But hey, as I said, it's a great thread.:wink2:{sm4}

Ok, yep I see your point there. I thought you were saying the thread was only for senior members and was not for all.

My point is this. If we have an area for K&C only dio threads what will happen is that as the folk who post almost daily dio threads post them more and more of the other folks dio's will be pushed down and simply won't be viewed, because people don't actually search for dio's they just look at whats there. So for instance someone will post their work and a few days later it will have been pushed down out of view by others who post all the time and as a result their efforts will no longer be on view . Another answer may be that if a K&C dio area is set up, perhaps those who only post a dio once in a while may be allowed to exhibit it in the K&C normal threads for a while.

Rob

I would think it's due to the sheer volume of K & C dioramas/displays shared here.

There is a tremendous volume of dioramas from Figarti, First Legion, John Jenkins, Britains, Conte, Thomas Gunn and The Collectors Showcase etc. also. To just single out K&C would show favoritism to one company. Or should we call this the K&C Forum ( Which it appears to be already ). Alex

I think most of see exactly what Joe is saying, he obviously means there have been a huge amount of K&C dio's of late , because someone mentions one company does not mean they are bound by law to mention another.

Hi Panda Gen,
love your work; thought 'Old boys' a great fun thread - but don't see that it would be up to the task outlined by Shannon. It's main theme is fun - great theme; please don't get me wrong here - but it does not maintain coherence in era or any other application. I liked Shannon's point about access and managing searches; and about the value of older material that sits idle on the forum because titles just don't give a clue about content. Your old book thread is the example I would use for coherence - it maintains the discipline of the topic and enables postings of compatible photos, which just would not happen with a single non specific thread like old boys - don't get rid of old boys though - it's great fun. {sm4}. Please don't misunderstand my meaning here - it's not a criticism of 'old boys' - it's a question about method appropriate to the task.

Aaah, I see where you are mistaken now!^&grin Mine is not a dio thread at all, its just a thread for people to post their favourite K&C items as they see fit, it can be displays, dios or just the item totally on its own, no dio's required, was merely to move away from all the aggro on that day. A 'Fave ' thread is different from a ' dio ' thread.

Fitzgibbon

I agree with your comments, maybe we should stick to posting everything on the 'bored again' thread?

Hi Rob,
see your point, and I think this feeds into Shannon's suggestion about managability - Panda Gen's old book thread (which I am slowly wending my way through) is a great example of managability - and an encouragement to stay on thread. The kudos of having a thread that runs for years would appeal to most over a number of threads that just come and go; and refreshing the thread with new material regularly ensures that it would stay on or near the front page; I think that this is about acquiring depth...? Open to your thoughts..

Hey Fitzgibbon .Yes that really does appeal. The best example of the type of thread you describe is the ACW diaries down in the ' basement' as it were. Easily the best series of dio's this forum has seen that has told a story over a period of years and has constantly kept viewers hooked with new scenes month after month all done in a quality unmatched on here. So yes an area of dio threads which allows for people to display their work would be good, and if as you say these threads contain perhaps more than one dio it would mean that you could easily look at the work of one person rather than trawling through dozens of individual threads. Also if posters stuck to one era in each thread this may also help the searches you described earlier.

If you've not seen the ACW diaries yet I can't recommend it highly enough, even if the American civil War is not your thing the skill Bob has in telling a story and the stunning battle scenes are something to behold.

Cheers

Rob

What about my Kett thread Mate...........................^&grin

Thats good too mate!:wink2:

Rob

Was joking mate but like i said why doesn't this become the dio section for K&C ?
And if others want sections for other company's just go ahead and start one in there respective sections ?????????????

With a name like that, how could he miss? As a full time worker, I have limited time and would enjoy a system that makes that time more effective. Thanks for the new example - ACW not quite my era but have watched Gettysburg many times over the years and found the whole ACW Politics fascinating (yeah, Politics was my major and not history). Will look for the thread. Thanks, Bob

Rob..

Maybe a certain number of dio pictures scenes should be set for the more enthusiastic posters?? this would solve the problems and make the K&C thread return to what it was. as you say, the dio's worked well without the need for moderation and sub themes for dio's and, can work well again. although I voted for it as a good idea the continuity of the K&C thread and how it has worked in the time I have been on here with threads on this and that interspaced with some great dio's repaints and conversions worked very well. I would hate to see and could not see how it would work if all dio's were put in one catagory and, what would happen if you posted a dio outside of the section?

One can also see that people are getting cranky about why one section and not all so, its getting a can of proverbial worms
